Angels' Matt Thaiss: Slugs two homers in loss

Thaiss went 3-for-4 with two homers, a double and four RBI in Sunday's loss to Houston.

Thaiss got the Angels on the board with a solo blast to center field in the third inning, slugged a two-run shot in the sixth, and capped the scoring with an RBI double in the eighth. The long balls snapped a 23-game homerless streak while the four runs batted in tied Thaiss's career high. The 24-year-old finishes his first major-league campaign with a .211/.293/.422 slash line, eight homers and 23 RBI in 53 games. He'll prepare for 2020 by working on his skills at third base while playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic during the offseason.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Resting Sunday

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Toronto, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

  • Blue Jays' Reese McGuire: On bench Sunday

McGuire is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

  • Red Sox's Christian Vazquez: Returns for season finale

Vazquez (hamstring) is starting behind the plate and batting sixth Sunday against the Orioles, jJen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Vazquez exited Wednesday's contest with left hamstring tightness and didn't start the last three games, but he'll rejoin the starting nine for the season finale. The 29-year-old has enjoyed a quality season with a .274/.319/.477 slash line with 23 homers and 71 RBI in 137 games.

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Not starting Saturday
