  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Not starting Saturday

Bart will sit Saturday against Cincinnati, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Bart didn't have much of an edge in playing time over Curt Casali throughout the middle of May, and with Casali back from a concussion, there's no guarantee Bart will make more than half the starts going forward. Casali owns an .816 OPS in 19 games this season, while Bart has posted a .634 OPS over 30 contests.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Giants' Curt Casali: Reinstated from injured list

Casali (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Saturday.

Casali spent a week on the injured list, but he cleared the concussion protocol and will start behind the plate and bat ninth Saturday against the Reds. Joey Bart has been struggling at the plate this season, so Casali had moved into a timeshare behind the plate prior to his absence.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: On bench against lefty

Narvaez isn't starting Saturday against the Cardinals.

Narvaez went 4-for-8 with a double over the last two games, but he'll take a seat with left-hander Matthew Liberatore starting for the Cardinals. Victor Caratini will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Takes seat Saturday

D'Arnaud isn't starting Saturday against Miami.

D'Arnaud will get a day off after going 1-for-8 with a double, a run and a strikeout over the last two games. William Contreras will start behind the dish and bat seventh.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Not starting matinee

Ruiz isn't starting the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Ruiz, who hit .286 with two doubles, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base over his last five games, will get a breather in Saturday's matinee. Riley Adams will start behind the dish and bat seventh.

  • Phillies' Garrett Stubbs: Pops second homer

Stubbs went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 8-6 loss to the Mets.

The backstop took Chasen Shreve deep in the sixth inning as the Phillies tried unsuccessfully to climb out of an early 7-0 hole. Stubbs has made the most of his infrequent opportunities backing up J.T. Realmuto, batting .379 (11-for-29) in 11 games while recording two homers, four runs, six RBI and a steal.

  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Plays first game off IL

Herrera started at catcher and went 3-for-4 with two runs in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

This was Herrera's first start since being activated off the COVID-19 injured list earlier this week, and he could be making a few more. Daulton Varsho, the club's primary catcher who served as the designated hitter Friday, left the game with a shoulder injury. Herrera is slashing .182/.265/.205 over 19 games in his first stint in the majors.

  • Pirates' Michael Perez: On bench Friday

Perez is out of the lineup for Friday's game at San Diego.

Perez is 1-for-24 with nine strikeouts and three walks in his past eight appearances, and he finds himself on the bench Friday for the second straight game. Tyler Heineman will receive another start behind the plate in his place.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Out of lineup

Nola will sit Friday against the Pirates.

Nola has disappointed at the plate this season, hitting .212/.285/.274 in 33 games. Jorge Alfaro will take over behind the plate Friday.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Up with big-league club

Fortes was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Fortes finished 2021 in the majors but was unable to earn a spot on Miami's Opening Day roster this season. The 25-year-old has a .723 OPS over 120 plate appearances for Jacksonville this year and should operate as the No. 2 catcher behind starter Jacob Stallings.
