  • Padres' Francisco Mejia: Out with sprained knee

Mejia landed on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain Saturday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Mejia has struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .167/.207/.259 in 58 plate appearances. It's unclear how much time he's expected to miss. Austin Allen was called up in a corresponding move.

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Takes seat Friday

Gomes isn't in Friday's starting lineup against the Dodgers, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Gomes took the collar at the dish Thursday in his first game back from a forearm injury, so he'll get the night off. Kurt Suzuki will draw the start behind the dish and bat sixth in Gomes' absence.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Gets day off

Barnes is not in the lineup Thursday against the Nationals, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Barnes will give way to Russell Martin behind the dish Thursday after starting the past three games, going 2-for-10 with a walk and a double in those contests.

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Rough day in return

Gomes (forearm) went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts Wednesday in the Nationals' 7-3 loss to the Brewers.

Gomes rejoined the lineup after a one-day respite due to the left forearm bruise he sustained after being hit by a pitch in Monday's series opener. The backstop struggled to get his timing right at the plate during his four at-bats, swinging and missing on nine of the 20 pitches he saw on the day. He could get a breather Thursday as the Nationals begin a four-game set in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Resting Thursday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Contreras will receive some routine maintenance for the matinee game before presumably rejoining the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Brewers. Backup Taylor Davis checks in behind the plate for Contreras, who is off to an 8-for-20 start in May.

  • Reds' Tucker Barnhart: Sitting Wednesday

Barnhart is not in the lineup Wednesday against the A's.

Barnhart will sit for Wednesday's night contest with an afternoon game on tap Thursday. In his place, Curt Casali is starting behind the dish and hitting seventh.

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Back in action

Gomes (forearm) is in the lineup, catching and batting cleanup, against the Brewers on Wednesday.

He was plunked on the forearm by a pitch Monday, but X-rays were negative and Gomes is now ready to return after missing just one start. With the Nats shorthanded due to injuries, Gomes will slot into the four hole against right-hander Brandon Woodruff. It's his third career start batting out of the cleanup spot.

  • Brewers' Yasmani Grandal: Sitting for day game

Grandal is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.

Grandal will head to the bench for Wednesday's day game after catching all nine innings and going 0-for-3 with a walk in Milwaukee's 6-0 win Tuesday night. Manny Pina is starting behind the dish and hitting seventh in this one.

  • Padres' Austin Hedges: Day off Tuesday

Hedges is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Hedges will return to the bench Tuesday while mired in a 2-for-23 slump over his last seven games. Francisco Mejia will start behind the plate and bat eighth in his stead.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Nationals' Yan Gomes: Absent from lineup

Gomes (forearm) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

Gomes departed Monday's series opener after getting drilled by a pitch on his left forearm, and though his X-rays returned negative, Washington will hold him out of Tuesday's starting nine. He'll attempt to hit prior to first pitch, per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports and may be available off the bench, depending on how his forearm responds. Kurt Suzuki will start behind the dish and bat fifth with Gomes still on the mend.
