    McGuire went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a 4-3 loss to the Mariners on Saturday.

    McGuire led off the seventh inning with a solo shot to right field off Anthony Bass to tie the score at 3-3 and later added a ninth-inning double. The 24-year-old has been splitting time at catcher with Danny Jansen and has gone 9-for-34 with three homers. He now holds a .265/.265/.588 slash line in 34 at-bats.

    Mariners' Austin Nola: Cranks solo homer

    Nola went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

    Serving as the first baseman, Nola had an infield single in the second inning and led off the fourth with a solo homer off Trent Thornton to break a 1-1 tie. The 29-year-old started August with a 1-for-20 cold stretch but has since rebounded to go 9-for-23 in his last six games. For the season, Nola is slashing .310/.360/.517 with five homers and 12 RBI in 116 at-bats.

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Sitting Saturday

    Smith is not in Saturday's lineup against the Braves, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

    He is hitting .360 with seven home runs in 50 at-bats since taking over as the Dodgers' primary catcher in late July. Russell Martin is catching and hitting eighth.

    Thaiss is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the White Sox.

    Thaiss is amid a 3-for-22 stretch over his past six starts. The rookie infielder is 3-for-11 with a home run and four RBI against left-handers on the year, but he'll sit against southpaw Hector Santiago on Saturday.

    Reds' Curt Casali: Recovering from hamstring strain

    Casali (knee) suffered a left hamstring strain last weekend on his minor-league rehab assignment, but he's making good progress in recovering from that setback, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

    Casali was able to run the bases Friday without pain. He's expected to begin a new rehab assignment back at Triple-A Louisville next week.

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Slugs home run in win

    Smith went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Friday's victory over the Braves.

    With the Dodgers ahead 6-3 in the eighth inning, Smith smacked a 401-foot shot to left field to tack on a pair of runs. Since taking over as the team's primary catcher at the end of July, the rookie has posted a .360 average along with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 16 games.

  • Rays' Travis d'Arnaud: Rides pine Saturday

    D'Arnaud is not in Saturday's lineup against the Tigers.

    He is hitting just .179 with zero home runs in 11 August games after hitting .342 with eight home runs in July. Mike Zunino will start at catcher and hit ninth.

    Marlins' Chad Wallach: Activity level picking up

    Wallach (concussion) has begun participating in baseball activities, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.

    The catcher has been on the injured list since late May and had a rehab assignment cut short in July due to persistent concussion symptoms, but Wallach may be back on track again. He could be able to rejoin the Marlins and provide depth behind the plate in September.

    Jansen is not in Saturday's lineup against the Mariners.

    He is hitting .324 with four home runs -- including a solo shot Friday -- in nine August games. Reese McGuire will start at catcher, hitting ninth.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Out of Saturday's lineup

    Stallings is not in Saturday's lineup against the Cubs.

    He dealt with a migraine earlier in the week but was able to catch Friday's game. Elias Diaz will start behind the dish, hitting seventh.
