McCann went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a pair of strikeouts in Wednesday's win over the Rays.

The solo shot was a big one, as it tied the score in the seventh inning to help pave the way for Detroit's 12-inning win. McCann is starting to heat up a bit at the plate, hitting .375 (6-for-16) with a pair of RBI over the last four games to bring his slash line to .259/.301/.412 on the year.

Perez was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on Wednesday.

Perez was designated for assignment by the Braves on Friday. The 27-year-old appeared in eight games for the club this season, going 3-for-21 with zero extra-base hits and six strikeouts. In a corresponding move, Elvis Andrus (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day DL in order to make room on the 40-man roster. A subsequent move will be made prior to Thursday's game as the Rangers will need to remove someone from the active 25-man roster.

Barnhart is out of the lineup against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Barnhart heads to the bench after starting the past three games, including a 1-for-3 night at the dish with two walks and a run scored during Tuesday's loss. Devin Mesoraco will catch and bat sixth in the order.

Gomes is not in the lineup against Texas on Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes will receive a breather after going 2-for-6 with one run scored during Tuesday's loss in extras. In his absence, Roberto Perez will catch Corey Kluber and bat eighth.

Vazquez is not in the lineup against Kansas City on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Vazquez will hit the bench following a pair of starts, including a 1-for-6 night during Tuesday's extra-inning loss. In his stead, Sandy Leon will handle the catching duties in Wednesday's matinee.

Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Sanchez came up in the ninth with two runners on and no score, and launched a home run to center off Astros closer Ken Giles. Sanchez now has eight homers and 27 RBI, both of which lead all MLB catchers. His .214 batting average and .277 on-base percentage are quite low, but he is providing plenty of run production.

Hedges was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with right elbow tendinitis.

Hedges was removed from Monday's game in the second inning with elbow tendinitis, and the issue has since been deemed serious enough to require a stay on the disabled list. It's still unclear if he'll be able to return from the DL when first eligible May 11. Raffy Lopez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move and should split catching duties with A.J. Ellis until Hedges is healthy.

General manager Sandy Alderson said Plawecki (hand) will probably be sidelined for at least another two weeks, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Plawecki recently resumed throwing, but according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, his grip strength still hasn't improved, leaving him at least a couple of weeks away from rejoining the Mets. An updated timetable for his return should emerge once he's able to ramp up his activity. In the meantime, Tomas Nido and Jose Lobaton will split duties behind the dish.

Contreras is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.

Contreras plays very frequently for a catcher -- this marks just his fifth absence so far this season. He's hitting a solid .264/.350/.418, though the fact that he has just one home run is disappointing for his fantasy owners. Victor Caratini will get the start behind the plate Tuesday.
