  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Diamondbacks' J.D. Martinez: Not in Sunday lineup

Martinez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.

Martinez is one of several regulars getting the day off Sunday, as the team will roll with an outfield composed of Gregor Blanco (left), Rey Fuentes (center) and David Peralta (right). Martinez launched homer No. 30 in a four-RBI effort Saturday and is likely being awarded a maintenance day with an important three-game series against the Dodgers on the horizon.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Hits clutch homer off bench

Turner came off the bench in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Padres, delivering a two-run home run in an eventual 6-5 loss.

Turner was able to make a fantasy impact despite not being in the starting lineup, taking San Diego closer Brad Hand deep in the top of the ninth to tie the game at five apiece. It was all for naught, as the Friars would come back to walk it off in the bottom of the inning. Turner started the nightcap, going 1-for-3 with an RBI double. The 32-year-old has hit safely in seven consecutive contests and appears to be breaking out of his brief late-August slump.

  • Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton: Smacks 52nd homer

Stanton went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Phillies.

His 52nd of the year snapped a three-game homerless drought. Amazingly, he's had just one longer stretch of games without a home run since the All-Star break (July 27-Aug. 2). Stanton's putting up video game numbers and looks like the fantasy MVP at what was a reduced cost during draft season.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Diamondbacks' J.D. Martinez: Reaches 30 homers

Martinez went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Saturday's win over the Rockies.

He took advantage of the thin air in Denver, crushing a pitch nearly 450 feet to dead center field against Jon Gray. Martinez is still hitting at just a .237 clip since the trade from Detroit, but he's had some tough luck on balls in play.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Not in Saturday's lineup

Carpenter is out of the lineup against the Giants on Saturday.

Carpenter heads to the bench after seven straight starts while Jose Martinez draws the assignment in his stead. Since the beginning of August, Carpenter is hitting .194/.364/.376 with just two multi-hit games. He will likely return to the starting nine for Sunday's series finale.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Day off for Game 1

Turner is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against San Diego, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Turner retreats to the bench following eight straight starts, including a 3-for-4 day at the plate during Friday's victory. In his place, Rob Segedin gets the nod at the hot corner.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Collects three hits Friday

Turner went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Friday's victory over the Padres.

The Dodgers' third baseman had gone through a bit of a hitting slump -- by his standards -- in August (.245 in 26 games), bringing his batting average "down" to .332 on the year. Friday's three-hit performance extended a modest five-game hitting streak, giving Turner a shot to make a late push for the National League batting title. He currently trails Charlie Blackmon by eight points with 29 games remaining in the regular season.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Nearing return to big club

Pederson is expected to rejoin the Dodgers sometime after the minor-league season ends, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Pederson has struggled since his demotion to Triple-A Oklahoma City, slashing just .167/.250/.194 in 36 at-bats, so rather than recall him once rosters expand Friday, the Dodgers will opt to keep him in the minors a little while longer to work things out. He'll likely rejoin the big club sometime next week, though his role once he returns is up in the air given the recent acquisition of Curtis Granderson and impending promotion of top prospect Alex Verdugo.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Not close to return from DL

Reds manager Bryan Price said Wednesday that Winker (hip) is "still a ways" from resuming baseball activities, Andy Call of MLB.com reports.

Price's comments all but ensure that Winker won't be activated from the 10-day disabled list when rosters expand Friday, and if his recovery from the hip flexor continues to proceed slowly, the young outfielder may not be cleared to play again this season. Though the 24-year-old has only had 87 plate appearances with the big club this season, he's impressed in limited action with a .297/.402/.500 line. Winker should have the opportunity to compete for a full-time role with the Reds in 2018 during spring training.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Pops 32nd homer Wednesday

Blackmon went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Tigers.

His sixth-inning blast was the only run allowed by Justin Verlander. Blackmon now has 32 homers on the year, establishing a new career high to go along with personal bests in RBI (84), runs (120), triples (14) and walks (51) -- and it's not even the end of August yet.
