  • Alex Lange RP | KC

Tigers' Alex Lange: Suffers third loss

Lange (5-3) allowed an unearned run to take the loss in Tuesday's extra-inning contest with the Angels. He gave up a hit and a walk, while also striking out one.

Lange worked the 10th inning of a 6-6 game and allowed his inherited runner to score on a one-out Mickey Moniak double. The righty also walked Hunter Renfroe and uncorked a wild pitch, so it wasn't his sharpest outing even if he didn't allow any earned runs. Lange continues to mow batters down, as he now has 53 strikeouts in 41.2 innings, though he's also walked 28. He'll need to exhibit better control if he wants to avoid rough outings moving forward.

  • Red Sox's Frank German: Back with Boston

German signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

German was released by the Reds earlier this month and will now return to the Red Sox organization. German made his MLB debut last season with the Red Sox, though he will likely require a major turnaround from his 7.78 ERA and 2.24 WHIP in Triple-A before he gets another shot at the big-league level.

  • Nick Robertson RP | LAD

Red Sox's Nick Robertson: Optioned after trade

Boston optioned Robertson to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Chad Jennings of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Dodgers on Tuesday evening -- along with Justin Hagenman -- in exchange for Enrique Hernandez. Robertson should get an opportunity in the Red Sox bullpen at some point down the stretch.

  • Tayler Scott RP | ATL

Athletics' Tayler Scott: Serving as opener Tuesday

Scott will serve as Oakland's opening pitcher in Tuesday's game against the Giants.

After being claimed off waivers from Boston last week, Scott made his first two appearances with Oakland out of the bullpen. The 31-year-old will now get the chance to make his first start as a member of the Athletics, though he's unlikely to pitch more than an inning or two before giving way to Ken Waldichuk, who is expected to serve as a bulk reliever.

  • Red Sox's Justin Hagenman: Traded to Red Sox

Boston acquired Hagenman and Nick Robertson from the Dodgers on Tuesday in exchange for Enrique Hernandez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Hagenman, a 23rd-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Penn State, had registered a sharp 2.78 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 60:11 K:BB through 55 innings this season with the Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers in Oklahoma City. The 26-year-old right-hander could make his MLB debut with the Red Sox at some point before the end of the 2023 campaign.

  • Nick Robertson RP | LAD

Red Sox's Nick Robertson: Acquired in Hernandez trade

Boston acquired Robertson and Justin Hagenman from the Dodgers in exchange for Enrique Hernandez on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Robertson has struggled to a 6.10 ERA in nine relief appearances this season at the MLB level, but he boasts a 2.54 ERA and 42:9 K:BB in 28.1 innings of work at Triple-A. The 25-year-old right-hander could maybe get some high-leverage looks with the Red Sox down the stretch, though it's unclear yet whether he'll report directly to Boston or head to its Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.

  • Spencer Howard SP | CLE

Rangers' Spencer Howard: Returns to majors

Howard was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

Howard had a disastrous appearance last month with the Rangers but has pitched well in the minors this season after recovering from a lat strain. He figures to be used in low-leverage situations.

  • Alex Speas RP | MIN

Rangers' Alex Speas: Sent down to Triple-A

Speas was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

Speas impressed in his major-league debut but was then knocked around in his next two appearances. Spencer Howard will take his spot in the bullpen.

  • Chad Smith RP | NYM

Athletics' Chad Smith: Optioned to Triple-A

Smith was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Smith holds a 6.59 ERA in 10 relief appearances with Oakland this season. He's clearing out to make room for Angel Felipe's return from paternity leave.

  • Angel Felipe RP | LAA

Athletics' Angel Felipe: Back from paternity leave

Felipe was activated from the paternity leave list Tuesday.

Felipe has pitched well during his brief time with the Athletics this season, allowing just one run over 6.1 innings. He should occupy a middle-relief role.
