  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Goes four innings in no-decision

Manaea allowed three runs on seven hits in four innings Tuesday against the Astros, striking out four and walking one in a no-decision.

Manaea was lifted after throwing 83 pitches (59 strikes), marking the first time in seven starts that the lefty didn't go at least five innings. Prior to Tuesday's outing, Manaea had thrown five consecutive quality starts. The 26-year-old still sports a respectable 3.44 ERA and an excellent 0.99 WHIP to go along with a .213 batting average against. He'll have one more start before the All-Star break, a matchup against the Giants in San Francisco.

  • Dylan Covey RP | ATL

White Sox's Dylan Covey: Takes loss against Cardinals

Covey (3-5) gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits in a loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday, striking out five and walking two in five innings.

Covey has fallen on hard times of late, surrendering 26 runs over his last 20 innings (five starts). In that span his ERA has jumped from 2.29 to 5.69. In 11 starts this year Covey is sporting a 1.64 WHIP and a .290 batting average against while carrying a 43:26 K:BB in 55.1 innings. The young right-hander appears unlikely to start again until after the All-Star Game.

  • Donnie Hart RP | BAL

Orioles' Donnie Hart: Recalled from Triple-A

Hart was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.

Hart has an impressive 2.86 ERA in 69.1 MLB innings as a reliever, but his 44 strikeouts and 4.09 FIP paint a much more modest picture. He has logged a 2.10 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 30 innings at Triple-A this season and should work low-leverage situations.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Set for rehab outing Saturday

Pomeranz (biceps) will make a rehab start Saturday and maybe another during the All-Star break, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Cotillo originally reported Friday as the date for Pomeranz's third rehab outing, but apparently the team has settled on Saturday. Pomeranz only built up to 60 pitches in his July 7 start for Triple-A Pawtucket and may need one additional rehab outing beyond Saturday to prepare for a return to the major leagues. The lefty has struggled to a 6.81 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 37 innings sandwiched between a pair of DL stints -- he opened the year on the disabled list with a forearm injury.

  • Jason Adam RP | SD

    Royals' Jason Adam: Sent down

Adam was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

A spot had to be cleared for Tuesday's starting pitcher, Ian Kennedy (oblique), and Adam was the roster casualty. Adam has had issues with the long ball, and he's compounded those issues with walks, but even so he figures to return in the second half when bullpen reinforcements are inevitably needed.

  • Nick Rumbelow RP | SEA

Mariners' Nick Rumbelow: Returns to big leagues

Rumbelow was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Rumbelow will provide bullpen depth, perhaps only for a day or two. If the Mariners decide to dip into the farm system to replace Felix Hernandez (back) in the rotation this week, Rumbelow would be a logical choice to get the bump. He's given up nine hits -- including two home runs -- in his 7.1 innings with Seattle so far this season.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Secures second victory

Andriese (2-3) fired a scoreless frame in an extra-inning win over the Tigers on Monday, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

The right-hander secured his second win of the season after preserving a 9-9 tie in the 10th and then seeing Daniel Robertson plate Kevin Kiermaier with the game-winning single in the home half of the frame. Andriese has now logged three scoreless appearances to open July, a welcome departure from the 6.39 ERA he generated over 12.2 innings in June.

  • Jalen Beeks RP | TEX

Red Sox's Jalen Beeks: Back up in Boston

Beeks was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.

Beeks has made one career major-league appearance, allowing six runs in a four-inning start back in June. He appears to be up in a relief role this time around, with William Cuevas optioned to Pawtucket in a corresponding move.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Likely serving as primary pitcher Tuesday

Yarbrough is expected to cover the bulk of the innings out of the bullpen Tuesday against the Tigers once opening pitcher Ryne Stanek exits the game, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

With starter Chris Archer failing to escape the top of the fourth in his return from the disabled list in Monday's 10-9 win over the Tigers, Rays manager Kevin Cash used eight relievers -- including Stanek -- to finish out the contest. The only member of the bullpen that wasn't used was Yarbrough, who should be in store for an ample workload as the Rays look to give their other relief arms some rest. The 26-year-old lefty has posted a 3.75 ERA and 77:31 K:BB across 84 frames this season.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Rays' Ryne Stanek: Working as opener Tuesday

Stanek will serve as the Rays' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Stanek will pick up his 11th start of the season and will presumably be capped at two innings, as has been the case the other 10 times he has opened games. The hard-throwing right-hander appeared in relief in Monday's 10-9 victory in 10 innings, retiring one of the two batters he faced and getting charged with an earned run. Ryan Yarbrough, the only Rays reliever who went unused Monday, is expected to handle the bulk of the innings once Stanek departs Tuesday.
