  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Officially lands on DL

The Athletics placed Mengden (foot) on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday.

The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, so Mengden will first be eligible to return July 4. The injury isn't viewed as a significant one for the right-hander, but an exact return date won't be fleshed out until he resumes throwing again. Chris Bassitt was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move and will start Wednesday's game against the Tigers in Mengden's stead.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Rays' Ryne Stanek: Confirmed as opener for Thursday

Rays manager Kevin Cash confirmed that Stanek will serve as the team's opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Astros, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Stanek is expected to cover around an inning or two before giving way to long man Ryan Yarbrough, who will handle the heaviest workload for the pitching staff on the day. In the other seven games Stanek has opened this season, he has given up two runs and generated 10 strikeouts over 10 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .118/.211/.176 batting line.

  • Jason Adam RP | SD

Royals' Jason Adam: Called up from minors

Adam was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

In a corresponding move, the Royals placed Justin Grimm on the 10-day disabled list due to a right shoulder injury. Across 14 appearances in the big leagues this year, Adam has logged a 4.70 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 15.1 innings of relief. Look for him to serve in low-leverage situations while he's with the club.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Picks up third win

Lopez (3-5) got the win Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over 6.1 innings against the Twins.

Lopez allowed a pair of solo home runs early in the contest and then later fell behind 4-2, but his offense picked him up to take the lead in the sixth and clear the way for his third win of the season. Despite the win, the 24-year-old has now yielded nine runs (eight earned) over 10.2 innings in his last two starts to raise his ERA up to 3.73. He'll look to bring that number back down in Sunday's road start against the Rangers.

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Royals' Jakob Junis: Takes ninth loss of season

Junis (5-9) allowed five runs on seven hits in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday, striking out seven and walking three in five innings.

Junis surrendered four extra-base hits in Tuesday's outing, including three home runs. He's now given up 22 homers on the year, most among all MLB pitchers. The right-hander is 0-5 in June with a 7.14 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. Junis does still have a respectable 90:27 K:BB in 96.1 innings for the season, but his inability to keep runs off the board of late makes him hard to depend on. His next start will be a matchup with the Indians at home.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Takes loss despite quality start

Borucki (0-1) allowed two runs on six hits in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday, striking out three and walking four in six innings.

Making his major-league debut, Borucki pitched effectively against an Astros club that leads the majors with a .265 team batting average. The 24-year-old managed a quality start despite allowing four doubles and throwing just 55 of 95 pitches for strikes. In 13 starts at Triple-A this year, Borucki has gone 6-5 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. The rookie may be afforded another start in the immediate future, but once Aaron Sanchez (finger) and Jaime Garcia (shoulder) are healthy, Borucki figures to return to the Triple-A squad or find work in the bullpen.

  • Rob Whalen RP | SEA

Mariners' Rob Whalen: Hits minor-league DL

Whalen (shoulder) was placed on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Rainiers play-by-play broadcaster Mike Curto reports.

Whalen leads the Rainiers with seven wins, which he's garnered over 14 starts. Curto reports that Whalen left his most recent start against Salt Lake last Thursday with shoulder stiffness, which led to Tuesday's move. The 24-year-old has made one appearance at the big-league level this season as well, firing four scoreless innings during which he allowed a hit and a walk against the Red Sox on June 15.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Start pushed back one day

Manaea's next scheduled start has been pushed back a day to Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The development is not due to any issue on Manaea's part, but rather, the fact that Chris Bassitt has been called up from Triple-A Nashville to take Daniel Mengden's place in the rotation for the time being. Bassitt just started the second game of a doubleheader against the White Sox last Friday, so rolling him out Wednesday will keep him on a schedule of four days' rest. Meanwhile, Manaea will pick up an extra day of rest after also having gone Friday in the first game of that day's twin bill. The 26-year-old lefty has emerged from a rocky May (1-4, 7.18 ERA) to generate three consecutive quality starts, posting a 2-0 record and 2.81 ERA across 25.2 June innings overall.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Earns 19th save Tuesday

Treinen tossed a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Tigers to collect his 19th save of the season.

Jed Lowrie gave the A's the lead on a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth before Treinen was summoned to close things out. He struck out James McCann on three pitches before inducing line outs against the next two hitters. Treinen's ERA is down to 0.93 on the year and he's proven himself to be one of the most reliable late-inning arms in the majors.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Secures save No. 29

Diaz recorded his 29th save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Orioles, allowing one hit with no strikeouts or walks during a scoreless ninth inning.

Diaz has notched a save during the first two games of the series in Baltimore, and hasn't allowed a run during his last 10 save opportunities. The 24-year-old has a 2.63 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with a 66:13 K:BB over 41 innings, and has converted 29-of-32 save chances thus far in 2018.
