  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Nabs win in relief

Andriese (1-1) picked up the win Wednesday, tossing three scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing three hits against the Royals.

Andriese was called upon to start the second game of a doubleheader in one of Tampa Bay's "bullpen games" Saturday, but it was back to a relief role in this one. The 28-year-old has pitched reasonably well in the long-relief spot and boasts an impressive 29:4 K:BB over 26.2 innings. The downside is that it'll be tough for him to factor into decisions on a regular basis -- Wednesday's win was his first of the year.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Sent back to minors

Barria was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

The Angels don't need a sixth starter May 27 thanks to a well placed off day next week, so they'll send Barria back to the minors in exchange for an additional bullpen arm (Eduardo Paredes). The 21-year-old struck out seven batters across seven innings of one-run ball against the Astros on Tuesday -- and owns an impressive 2.13 ERA across five starts (25.1 innings) this season -- so he should be back with the big club when a starter is next required.

  • Angels' Eduardo Paredes: Recalled from Salt Lake

Paredes was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group reports.

Paredes will return to the bullpen as he takes the place of Jaime Barria on the major-league roster. Over five appearances with the Angels this year, Paredes holds a 9.95 ERA and 2.05 WHIP across 6.1 innings of relief.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Athletics' Lou Trivino: Grabs third hold in Tuesday's win

Trivino grabbed his third hold in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday, firing two scoreless two innings in which he allowed a hit and a walk while recording two strikeouts.

Trivino's mastery over major-league bats continues, as he now has a six appearance scoreless streak during which he's lowered his ERA from 1.29 to 0.64. The 26-year-old right-hander has racked up an impressive 15 strikeouts over 14 innings as well, and occasional but manageable control issues have served as the only blemish on his otherwise stellar body of work.

  • Danny Barnes RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Danny Barnes: Brought up from Triple-A

The Blue Jays will promote Barnes from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Barnes will offer the Blue Jays a fresh arm out of the bullpen in place of Deck McGuire, who was optioned to Triple-A after covering 3.1 innings in long relief Tuesday against the Mets. Unlike McGuire, Barnes projects to work in more of an one-inning setup role, though it's unlikely that Barnes will factor into Blue Jays' plans at closer. That spot remains unsettled with Roberto Osuna on administrative leave following his assault arrest last week.

  • Matt Belisle RP | CLE

Indians' Matt Belisle: Re-signs with Cleveland

Belisle agreed to a minor-league deal with the Indians on Wednesday.

Belisle will report to Triple-A Columbus. He was recently designated for assignment by the organization, but refused an outright assignment to the minors and became a free agent just over a week ago. Over eight appearances with the big-league club in 2018, the right-hander logged a 5.06 ERA and four strikeouts in 10.2 innings of relief.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Blows second save of year

Diaz gave up one run on one hit in the ninth to blow the save Tuesday against the Rangers. He struck out one and walked zero.

Diaz allowed a single to Jurickson Profar to open the ninth, and a wild pitch soon put him on second base. After getting Nomar Mazara to pop out, Diaz got Joey Gallo to ground out sharply to first but Profar was able to score from second on the play. It was just the second blown save on the year for Diaz, and he still holds a superb 0.75 WHIP while holding opponents to a .099 batting average. He's struck out 38 batters in just 21.1 innings.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Notches sixth save Tuesday

Giles struck out two in a scoreless ninth to earn the save Tuesday against the Angels, allowing one hit and no walks.

Giles is 6-for-6 in save chances and sports an excellent 0.90 WHIP that smooths out the rough 4.05 ERA. The reliever has recorded 11 strikeouts in 13.1 innings without walking a batter. Over his last three appearances, Giles hasn't allowed a run while surrendering just two hits.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Strikes out seven in quality start

Barria struck out seven and walked zero in a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday, surrendering one run on four hits in seven innings.

Barria had an excellent outing Tuesday, throwing 96 pitches (65 for strikes) to get through seven. For the second consecutive game, he struck out seven batters while issuing one walk or fewer. The young right-hander has brought down his ERA to 2.13 and is holding opponents to a .204 batting average. If the Angels stick to their current six-man rotation, Barria would be in line for a start against the Blue Jays in Toronto next week.

  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Collects eighth save Tuesday

Treinen allowed one run in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Red Sox but escaped with his eighth save of the season. He struck out one.

Treinen stepped to the mound with the Athletics holding a 5-2 lead. He allowed Rafael Devers to reach base on a wild pitch strikeout and surrendered a double to Brock Holt but was able to limit the damage to one run. Treinen has now allowed just one run over 8.1 innings in May and has tallied five of his eight saves in the past two weeks.
