  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Continues strong stretch in loss

Hendriks fired 1.1 scoreless innings in which he gave up a hit and recorded a strikeout during Sunday's 10-2 loss to the Mariners.

Hendriks is in the midst of one of his most effective stretches of the season, as he's now posted eight consecutive scoreless efforts. The 28-year-old right-hander has lowered his ERA from 5.55 to 4.75 over that span while allowing just two hits and generating a 9:2 K:BB across eight innings.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Will have doctor visit Sept. 11

Fulmer (elbow) isn't expected to visit Dr. James Andrews for an examination until Sept. 11, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Fulmer was never expected to reenter the rotation this week after being diagnosed with right elbow ulnar neuritis following his Aug. 29 start, but the fact that the Tigers aren't rushing the doctor's appointment seemingly makes it increasingly likely that the reigning American League Rookie of the Year may not be in line to return this season. Until Andrews has a chance to assess Fulmer's elbow, it won't be known if the youngster will be able to treat the injury through simple rest and rehab, or if surgical intervention will be necessary. The Tigers filled Fulmer's spot in the rotation Sunday against the Indians with Chad Bell, but it's uncertain if Bell will pick up another start this week after he was lit up for five runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Clean inning in return

Kittredge fired a scoreless sixth inning during which he recorded a strikeout in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox.

Having just been called up from Triple-A Durham late Saturday, Kittredge impressively threw 14 of his 16 pitches for strikes while jumping right into action with the Rays. The 27-year-old right-hander has generally had success during his major-league stints this season, posting a 3.00 ERA and striking out a batter an inning over the six frames he's worked across six appearances. He's expected to remain in the bullpen for the balance of the regular season.

  • Carson Fulmer RP | PIT

White Sox's Carson Fulmer: Throwing out of pen

Fulmer picked up his first major-league win Saturday when he pitched two innings of relief in a 5-4 win over the Rays.

A starter in the minor leagues, Fulmer looks like he'll be sticking in the bullpen after one failed start in the majors Aug. 21, when he allowed six runs and two home runs in 1.1 innings against the Twins. There is an available spot in the rotation, but the White Sox are having David Holmberg start Tuesday.

  • Rays' Brent Honeywell: Impressive in return from suspension Sunday

Honeywell (suspension) fired 5.1 scoreless innings in Triple-A Durham's 10-2 win over Gwinnett on Sunday, allowing four hits and recording five strikeouts.

Honeywell had been suspended four games by the Bulls on Aug. 28 for undisclosed reasons and looked honed in during his return to action. The 22-year-old concludes the regular season having amassed a stellar 172:35 K:BB over 136.2 innings, along with a 3.49 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over 26 starts. With Honeywell not being called up despite the expansion of major-league rosters on Sept. 1, he'll look to spearhead Durham's efforts in the International League playoffs.

  • Royals' Scott Alexander: Earns fourth win Sunday

Alexander (4-3) picked up the win after striking out two of the three batters he faced Sunday in Minnesota.

As the club makes its final push toward the playoffs, Alexander has surprisingly become a key player out of the Royals' bullpen. Over his last 12 games (eight innings), the southpaw hasn't allowed a run while tallying four holds, two saves and a win. Manager Ned Yost will keep going to the well as long as it works, so Alexander is a solid play for those in deep leagues that value such relievers.

  • Troy Scribner RP | ARI

Angels' Troy Scribner: Bound for bullpen duties

Scribner will settle into a relief role with Garrett Richards (biceps) on track to replace him in the rotation Tuesday against the Athletics, Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Scribner tossed only 2.2 innings during an abbreviated start Aug. 30 and the light workload made manager Mike Scioscia comfortable enough with calling upon the right-hander to record an out in relief two days later with the knowledge that Richards was ready to rejoin the rotation in his stead. Since Richards had been sidelined since the first week of April and made just one rehab start in the minors, it's expected that he'll face a restricted pitch count in Tuesday's outing, so Scribner could be one of the multiple relievers called upon to piggyback Richards during the contest.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Earns fourth save

Devenski pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to record his fourth save of the season during Sunday's win over the Mets.

Devenski pitched three scoreless frames Saturday to earn his seventh win, so it's been a huge weekend for the standout reliever. With a 2.50 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 11.3 K/9 for the campaign, the 26-year-old righty has been a strong fantasy asset this season. While regular save opportunities aren't in the equation, his top-tier ratios and high-leverage role still carry plenty of value.

  • Danny Barnes RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Danny Barnes: Gives up walkoff single in Sunday's loss

Barnes (2-6) took the loss Sunday in Baltimore after giving up a two-out, walkoff RBI single to Mark Trumbo in the 12th inning.

Barnes posted a 3.09 ERA and .189 BAA through 43.2 innings before landing on the DL with a shoulder ailment in July. Since returning on Aug. 4, the 27-year-old has allowed eight runs on 14 hits over 14.2 frames. Barnes has played in 55 games this year (four with Triple-A Buffalo), the most appearances for any campaign during his eight professional seasons. With rosters now expanded and the playoffs unlikely, it wouldn't be surprising to see Toronto ease off Barnes as the finish line approaches.

  • Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Scoops another extra-innings victory

Yacabonis (2-0) picked up win after tossing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit Sunday against Toronto.

For the second time in three days, the recently recalled Yacabonis pocketed an extra-innings victory against the Jays. The right-hander was great at Triple-A Norfolk this season but only appeared in four MLB games before rosters expanded last week. Yacabonis had a fine weekend, but it was against a poor lineup in fluky scenarios, so owners eyeing a sneaky late-season reliever should bypass this 25-year-old with that understanding in mind.
