  • Scott McGough RP | ATH

Orioles' Scott McGough: Designated for assignment

McGough was designated for assignment Saturday.

The Orioles needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster prior to Saturday's doubleheader, and McGough was the roster casualty. Baltimore recently claimed the 26-year-old righty off waivers, and he posted a 12.71 ERA in 5.2 innings of relief at Triple-A Norfolk prior to being designated for assignment.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Makes first rehab start

Kelly (shoulder) tossed three innings in his first rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, the Providence Journal reports. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three.

Kelly had some difficulty with his command as just 28 of his 52 pitches went for strikes, but he was able to reach 95 mph on his fastball and was pleased with the outing. "My mind feels clear that the situation, the pain, everything I was feeling is gone," said the right-hander. Kelly is expected to make at least two more rehab starts, according to the Boston Globe.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Records seventh save versus Angels

Colome secured his seventh save with a perfect ninth inning against the Angels on Friday.

He induced a ground ball and struck out two to retire the side. Colome threw nine of his 11 pitches for strikes and recorded three swing-and-misses. He is now 7-for-7 in save opportunities with a 2.45 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 11 innings.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: To start Sunday's game against Angels

Andriese will be recalled from Triple-A to start Sunday's game against the Angels, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

He certainly helped his case in his last outing, striking out 14 in seven shutout innings against the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate, and he also happens to be a righty, and the Rays wanted to avoid using a lefty against the Angels' righty-heavy lineup. Throw in the fact that Erasmo Ramirez pitched two innings Wednesday and it was a no brainer to bring up Andriese for Sunday's start. He is behind Blake Snell in the pecking order to get starts in the fifth spot in the rotation over the rest of the season, but there are reasons to look to Andriese as a useful option in daily leagues Sunday.

  • Brian Flynn RP | KC

Royals' Brian Flynn: Recalled from Triple-A

Flynn was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports.

The 26-year-old was brought up to reinforce a Royals bullpen that was needed for seven innings in relief of Kris Medlen on Wednesday. A back issue kept Flynn out for nearly all of last year, and he's been just mediocre in 16 innings at Omaha so far this season, allowing seven runs on 15 hits with 14 strikeouts against nine walks. He may ride the shuttle fairly regularly throughout the season.

  • Scott Carroll RP | CHC

White Sox's Scott Carroll: Recalled from Triple-A on Friday

Carroll was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

The White Sox sent Erik Johnson down to Triple-A following his previous start, leaving a hole in the Chicago pitching staff. Despite having fairly bad numbers with Triple-A Charlotte, Carroll got promoted to the big leagues. The right-hander has experience pitching out of the rotation and the bullpen, so he could act in either role for the White Sox depending on what their current needs are.

  • Michael Tonkin RP | MIN

Twins' Michael Tonkin: Starts strong despite walking batters

Tonkin made a brief appearance in Wednesday's loss to Houston, retiring the single batter he faced with a mere two pitches

The Twins have only played 28 games this season, but Tonkin has already pitched in more than half as many innings (14.1) as he did in the entire 2015 campaign (23.1). In those 14.1 innings, he has posted a 1.26 ERA and a 10.05 K/9, making him appear as a viable option for the Twins out of the bullpen. However, Tonkin has to put more control on his pitches, as his 1.19 WHIP has been inflated, courtesy of a BB/9 that is sitting at 4.40.

  • Athletics' Fernando Rodriguez: Stats May with strong outings

Rodriguez has only allowed one hit after throwing a total of 2.1 innings in two games this May.

29 games into the season, Rodriguez has established himself as one of Oakland's top bullpen options. Among their relievers, he has thrown the most innings (17.1) and has a dominant ERA of 1.04. Despite a mediocre BB/9 of 3.12, Rodriguez's WHIP sits at 0.92. However, it's worth noting that after appearing in 12 games this season, Rodriguez's K/9 is 7.79, which is respectable, but a considerable drop from 2015's end result of 9.97 K/9.

  • Nick Burdi RP | NYM

Twins' Nick Burdi: On DL with bruised arm

Burdi has been placed on the 7-day DL at Double-A Chattanooga with a bone bruise on his right humerus, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

Burdi had struggled early in the season by allowing three earned runs with just one strikeout in three innings. He'll be on "no-throw" status for two weeks and then will advance in his rehab from there.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Blue Jays' Jesse Chavez: Getting more responsibility in coming weeks

Chavez's stock is rising as manager John Gibbons is preparing to give the righty an increased role out of the pen, Sportsnet reports.

With Brett Cecil and Drew Storen struggling to offer much help late in games, Chavez will be the unlikely beneficiary, as his performance has caught the eye of the manager. "There's a lot that comes out of that skinny body," Gibbons said of Chavez. In his second stint with the Jays, the 32-year-old is sporting a 1.69 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 11 appearances this season.
