  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Start pushed to Friday due to rainout

Kelly's 2016 debut will be pushed to Friday with the news that the Red Sox's game against the Indians on Thursday has been postponed, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

The weather in Cleveland became bad enough that the Indians decided to postpone the game despite the fact that there are not many potential makeup dates very soon. This development hurts Kelly a fair amount, as he now has to face the Blue Jays, who he posted a 6.17 ERA against last season, instead of an Indians lineup lacking the same pop.

  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Scheduled for first bullpen session Sunday

Manager John Farrell said that Smith (forearm) is scheduled to pitch his first bullpen session Sunday, Scott Lauber of ESPN reports.

Smith progressed to the long toss portion of his rehab process Wednesday, and it appears that it went well enough that he can move on to the next step this coming weekend. The right-hander still has no timetable for a return, but things could become a bit clearer following the conclusion of his bullpen session.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Recalled from minors

Devenski was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Devenski will replace Michael Feliz at the back of the Houston bullpen, after Feliz threw 107 pitches in mop-up duty during Wednesday's 16-6 loss to the Yankees. The 25-year-old Devenski had a nice spring and nearly made the Opening Day roster, but he'll probably get most of his work in low-leverage situations.

  • Athletics' Kendall Graveman: Ready to start Thursday

As previously scheduled, Graveman (illness) is listed as the A's starter for Thursday's game against the White Sox.

After teammate Sonny Gray was forced to move his first start back from Monday's opener to Wednesday due to illness, Graveman was under the weather this week. He'll face a White Sox lineup featuring three right-handed hitters in the heart of the order (Jose Abreu, Todd Frazier, and Avisail Garcia) in Thursday's matchup.

  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Pitches scoreless frame Wednesday

Farquhar pitched a scoreless inning and struck out a batter in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

The five-year veteran has been able to extend his impressive work from the spring into his first two appearances of the regular season. He's fanned three of the eight batters he's faced, and held opposing hitters to a .143 average while throwing 27 of his 41 pitches for strikes. Farquhar is one of several Rays relievers that will continue holding down the fort until Brad Boxberger's (abdomen) return, but ideally slots as a sixth-to-seventh-inning type specialist that bridges the gap from starter to setup man.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Finishes Wednesday's game

Barnes pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in Wednesday's loss to the Indians. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two.

Barnes was dazzling during spring training and was a no-brainer replacement for the injured Carson Smith (forearm). He has the high-velocity fastball that could play in a set-up role, but the former starter can also pitch multiple innings when a starter doesn't get deep into a game, as was the case Wednesday with Clay Buchholz. As a reliever in 2015, the UConn grad struck out 51 batters in 50.1 innings.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Can't escape first inning in loss to Yankees

McHugh (0-1) only got one out in Wednesday's start against the Yankees, giving up six runs (five earned) on thee hits and two walks in the process.

After a catcher's interference call put Jacoby Ellsbury on to start the game, McHugh completely imploded, loading the game with consecutive walks, then giving up two hits before getting his lone out on an RBI grounder by Carlos Beltran. The 28-year-old's first start of the season could hardly have gone worse, and it highlights the fact that McHugh -- despite coming off a 2015 in which he set new career bests in innings (203.2), strikeouts (171) and wins (19) -- isn't a high-end fantasy starter. He'll have better days than this, that's for sure, especially because the Astros should be good; still, we shouldn't count on him rediscovering the strikeout-per-inning form he flashed out of nowhere two years ago.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Orioles' Hunter Harvey: Throws 40 pitches

Harvey (groin) threw 40 pitches Wednesday and will throw a simulated game Saturday, MASN Sports reports.

The simulated game could be Harvey's final test before beginning the season at High-A. If that holds up, he would virtually be starting the season on time. His injury riddled career has limited Harvey to just over 100 innings in three seasons. Harvey certainly hopes to get more work in this season and possibly jump to Double-A.

  • Taylor Rogers RP | MIN

Twins' Taylor Rogers: Moving back to rotation

Rogers will move back to the bullpen at Triple-A Rochester, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Rogers was given a trial as a lefty reliever in spring training but didn't make the major league roster. It's not clear if his long-term future is in the rotation, but he'll move back to starting at Rochester.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rays' Matt Moore: Strikes out six in first outing

Moore gave up three runs, five hits and two walks in five innings with six strikeouts while taking a no-decision Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Josh Donaldson's three-run homer in the third was the only damage done to Moore, who avoided the loss thanks to Steven Souza Jr.'s three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning. Moore struggled with his control most of the day as only 61 of his 102 pitches went for strikes -- of which, only 19 were called strikes by the umpire. The 26-year-old lefty will look to earn his first win of the season next week at home against the Indians.
