Manaea will have his turn through the rotation skipped during the Padres' weekend series against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Manaea struggled mightily against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four in 4.1 innings. Since the Padres have a scheduled day off Thursday, the team will elect to skip his turn through the rotation. It's not yet clear whether the southpaw will be available out of the bullpen this weekend or when he'll ultimately make his next start for San Diego.

The Diamondbacks optioned Frias to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Frias' move to Triple-A clears a spot on the 28-man active roster for right-hander Ryne Nelson, who was called up from Reno in advance of his scheduled start Monday agains the Padres. Following his promotion from Triple-A on Aug. 21, Frias made six appearances out of the bullpen and allowed seven earned runs on six hits and two walks across 5.2 innings.

Morejon didn't record an out in an appearance against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk.

The Padres put themselves back into the game with a three-run top of the seventh inning that closed their deficit to one run, but Morejon couldn't contain Los Angeles in the bottom of the frame. The southpaw allowed all four batters he faced to reach base, and Trayce Thompson ended his outing by slamming a three-run, pinch-hit homer to left field. Morejon allowed only one run over 14.2 innings in August, but a pair of four-run blowouts in 19 appearances this season has his ERA at 4.50.

Rockies manager Bud Black said Monday that Gilbreath (elbow) won't return from the 15-day injured list before the end of the season, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Gilbreath is due to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to address his left elbow flexor strain and is expected to avoid surgery, but with just a month left in the season, he won't have sufficient time to complete his rehab program for the injury before the Rockies wrap up their schedule in the first week of October. The 26-year-old southpaw turned in a 4.19 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 49:26 K:BB to go with 12 holds in 43 innings over 47 relief appearances before he landed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 28.

The Cardinals optioned Hudson to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Hudson was moved to the bullpen over the weekend in anticipation of Jack Flaherty's (shoulder) return from the 60-day injured list to start Monday's series opener with the Nationals. With St. Louis now officially activating Flaherty, Hudson will end up losing his spot in the bullpen, as the Cardinals already had multiple pitchers capable of covering multiple innings in relief as necessary. Despite receiving the demotion, Hudson likely won't have to wait long before getting another look with the big club. According to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat, Hudson is scheduled to make his first start with Memphis on Tuesday and another on Sunday before he likely rejoins St. Louis when a sixth starter is needed for the team's Sept. 17 doubleheader with the Reds.

Nelson hit a batter and retired three over a scoreless eighth inning to earn a hold in Sunday's 5-1 win over Milwaukee.

After Zac Gallen's seven shutout innings, Nelson came on to protect a 3-0 lead, his first setup opportunity since being activated off the injured list. The left-hander walked three in his first outing off the IL, and this one didn't start any better when he hit Victor Caratini, but Nelson retired the next three batters to preserve the lead. Nelson will be part of the late-game crew, called to throw in setup or high-leverage situations. He's been a surprising find for the Diamondbacks, posting a 1.51 ERA (3.08 FIP) after pitching himself out of the Guardians' organization.

Hughes (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits while retiring just two batters Sunday to take the loss against the Cardinals.

Coming on in relief for Marcus Stroman, who pitched seven scoreless innings, Hughes quickly let St. Louis get ahead. A one-out double by Tommy Edman was followed by an Albert Pujols two-run home run, and the Cardinals made the 2-0 margin hold up. Hughes now has a 3.72 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 11.2 K/9 over his last 10 games, so he's pitched pretty well outside of the tough outing Sunday. He should continue to split closing duties with Rowan Wick.

Robertson (3-2) took the loss Sunday versus the Giants, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four in 1.2 innings.

Robertson did his job in the eighth inning to keep the score tied at 3-3, but Wilmer Flores connected on a two-run walkoff home run in the ninth. This was just the second time in 12 appearances for Philadelphia that Robertson's allowed runs, and both of those instances have been two-run mishaps leading to losses. He's added four saves and three holds as part of the Phillies' closer committee. When accounting for his time with the Cubs to begin the year, he has a 2.35 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 68:25 K:BB through 53.2 innings while going 18-for-24 in save chances.

Young struck out two in a perfect inning, earning a hold in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Phillies.

Young has made 15 of his 16 appearances this year for San Francisco. He's pitched to a 2.51 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB across 14.1 innings with five holds and a blown save. He's been better recently with two holds and three scoreless innings across his last four outings, which suggests he's working up the bullpen hierarchy for the Giants. He's still more of a middle reliever, though the lack of solid relief pitching for the team could allow him to function as part of a setup bridge to closer Camilo Doval over the last month of the campaign.

Doval (5-6) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned the win Sunday over the Phillies.

Doval kept the game tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, setting the stage for Wilmer Flores' walkoff two-run home run in the bottom of the frame. Doval continues to pitch fairly well, as he's allowed four runs (two earned) across 13 innings since the start of August. The Giants' closer owns a 2.73 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 66:26 K:BB while converting 19 of 22 save chances through 56 innings this season.
