  • Tristan Beck RP | SF

Giants' Tristan Beck: Starting again Friday

Beck will start Friday's game versus the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Beck will be getting his second start in a row after he gave up three runs over 4.1 innings versus Atlanta on Sunday. The right-hander has often been available out of the bullpen this season, but the Giants could be shifting the way they manage their pitchers, with Beck taking over a rotation spot. While he'll be starting Friday, Beck has gone more than five innings just twice in 29 appearances this season, so it's still likely he won't qualify for the win.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Longshot to return

Hudson (knee) is a "longshot" to return this season, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The Dodgers have tried to keep the door open for Hudson to return this season, though it seems as if that hope is fading. Manager Dave Roberts relayed that Hudson threw a bullpen session recently but was still dealing with soreness in his knee. It's unclear whether he could make a return for the postseason, or if a return to start 2024 is most realistic.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Begins serving suspension

Padres manager Bob Melvin said Suarez has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Major League Baseball handed Suarez the 10-game punishment last week for allegedly having a foreign substance on his arm as he prepared to make a relief appearance against the Marlins. He will be unavailable for a string of crucial series versus the Giants, Phillies and Astros.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Dodgers' Shelby Miller: Activated from 60-day IL

The Dodgers activated Miller (neck) from the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Finally recovered from the neck injury that has kept him out since June, Miller will return to the Los Angeles bullpen ahead of Thursday's series opener against Atlanta. He had posted an impressive 2.40 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 30 innings of relief for the Dodgers prior to the lengthy IL stint.

  • Jimmy Nelson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Jimmy Nelson: Restarts rehab assignment

Nelson (elbow) resumed his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Oklahoma City, striking out one batter over a scoreless inning.

Nelson has remained on the Dodgers' 60-day injured list all season, despite having now made 24 appearances between Oklahoma City and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League over the course of four separate rehab assignments. His outing Tuesday with Oklahoma City came after he had been out of action for about two and a half weeks. Dating back to Aug. 4, Nelson has now struck out seven while allowing eight baserunners over five scoreless innings across his last five outings. If he can remain free of setbacks in his subsequent minor-league appearances, Nelson could get the chance to join the Los Angeles bullpen in September.

  • Jake Junis RP | TEX

Giants' Jakob Junis: Getting start Thursday

Junis will start for the Giants on Thursday at San Diego, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Junis has primarily worked as a multi-inning reliever this season and will probably be piggybacked Thursday by Sean Manaea. San Francisco has a TBA listed for Friday's game against the Padres, then it'll be Kyle Harrison (Saturday) and Alex Cobb (Sunday) in the final two games of the four-game series.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | PIT

Nationals' Joe La Sorsa: Recalled to Washington

The Nationals recalled La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

La Sorsa will come up from the minors to fill MacKenzie Gore's spot on the roster after Gore was placed on the bereavement list Thursday. The 25-year-old lefty has put up a 5.66 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 20.2 innings in the majors and will simply add depth to the Nats' bullpen while Gore is out.

  • Shane Greene RP | TEX

Cubs' Shane Greene: Getting call from Iowa

Greene will be called up to the Cubs on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Greene has been working as a starter for Triple-A Iowa since the Cubs signed him to a minor-league contract in late June. He's flourished in that role, working to a 2.16 ERA with 20 strikeouts in five starts covering 20.1 innings. The 34-year-old right-hander could operate as a multi-inning relief option for Chicago or even get some rotation turns. He hasn't started a major-game since 2016.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA

Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Moves rehab to Triple-A

Pomeranz (elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while recording two outs.

Pomeranz needed 25 pitches just to retire two of the five batters he faced in his first rehab outing at Triple-A and the second of his assignment overall after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore last Friday. The veteran southpaw has remained on the Padres' 60-day injured list all season and will likely require at least a handful of outings at El Paso before being deemed ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

  • Pedro Avila RP | CLE

Padres' Pedro Avila: Gets another start

Avila will start Thursday's game against the Giants at Petco Park.

Avila flopped while stepping into the rotation for a struggling Rich Hill last weekend in Milwaukee, lasting 4.1 innings while giving up five earned runs on five hits and two walks in a losing effort. Despite the poor showing, Avila won't lose hold of his starting role, as the Padres will have room for both the 26-year-old right-hander and Hill in the rotation after Yu Darvish (elbow) was moved to the injured list earlier this week.
