  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Padres' Josh Hader: Grabs 27th save

Hader allowed a hit and struck out two without walking a batter in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Orioles.

Hader went over two weeks between save chances and saw just one appearance in that span. He's been dominant over recent months, allowing just one unearned run over 20.1 innings across his last 22 appearances. For the season, the closer is 27-for-31 in save conversions while pitching to a 0.84 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 65:22 K:BB through 42.2 innings overall.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Dodgers' Joe Kelly: Bullpen session on tap

Kelly (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Kelly landed on the injured list Sunday due to inflammation in his right forearm and is set to resume throwing off a mound after nearly a week. Kelly will still have to remain out for at least another week following his bullpen session Friday.

  • Andre Jackson RP | PIT

Pirates' Andre Jackson: Remains in rotation

Jackson is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Twins in Minnesota, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The right-hander will get a second straight turn through the rotation despite a rocky showing in his first MLB start versus the Reds this past Sunday, when he struck out five while allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks over 3.2 innings en route to taking a no-decision in the second game of a doubleheader with Cincinnati. Over 26.1 innings in the majors this season, Jackson has posted a stellar 28:5 K:BB, but most of his other ratios (5.47 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 2.1 HR/9) are less impressive.

  • Mason Thompson RP | TEX

Nationals' Mason Thompson: Cleared for rehab assignment

Thompson (knee) will head to Double-A Harrisburg later this week to begin a rehab assignment, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Thompson has been on the injured list since Aug. 5 due to a left knee contusion, so he'll likely require only one or two tune-up outings in the minors before getting cleared to rejoin the Nationals' bullpen. Though he's been one of the team's top setup options this season, he had struggled throughout July (9.00 ERA, 2.13 WHIP in eight innings) prior to landing on the shelf.

  • Ryan Helsley RP | BAL

Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: No return timetable

Helsley underwent an MRI on Wednesday that showed improved healing in his strained right forearm, but he remains without a clear timeline to resume his rehab assignment, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

After making his third rehab appearance for Double-A Springfield on Sunday, Helsley reported residual soreness in his forearm and was pulled off the minor-league assignment to be sent in for further testing. Fortunately for Helsley, the MRI revealed nothing concerning, but the right-hander is still expected to stay away from pitching in minor-league games for an indefinite period of time. Helsley remains optimistic he'll make his way back from the 60-day injured list this season, though any return may be more likely to happen in September at this stage.

  • Alan Busenitz RP | CIN

Reds' Alan Busenitz: Back with big club

The Reds recalled Busenitz from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

He'll be joining the 26-man active roster as a replacement on the pitching staff for right-hander Luke Weaver, who was designated for assignment. Busenitz has spent much of the season in the minors but has previously made four appearances out of the Cincinnati bullpen, giving up two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over four innings.

  • Brett Kennedy RP | CIN

Reds' Brett Kennedy: Likely to join rotation

Kennedy is expected to join Cincinnati's rotation and make a start during this weekend's home series versus the Blue Jays, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Kennedy previously made a five-inning spot start in his Reds debut July 4, but since returning from Triple-A Louisville on Aug. 7, he's made one two-inning appearance out of the bullpen. However, with the Reds designating Luke Weaver for assignment Wednesday, Kennedy now looks to be the next man up to fill the team's vacant fifth starter role. Kennedy looks poised to start either Friday or Saturday, but he may be in line for only a brief stay in the rotation, as the Reds could get Nick Lodolo (tibia) back from the injured list as soon as next weekend.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Mets' Dennis Santana: Back in big leagues

The Mets selected Santana's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Santana was added and removed from the Mets' 40-man roster multiple times in the first half of the season and has now made his way back on it again. He will give the bullpen a fresh arm.

  • Edwin Uceta RP | TB

Mets' Edwin Uceta: Moves off 40-man roster

The Mets designated Uceta for assignment Wednesday.

Uceta will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to reliever Dennis Santana, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Before he was activated from the injured list and sent back to Syracuse on Sunday, Uceta had made just one three-inning relief appearance for the Mets this season.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Keeps rolling Tuesday

Hudson (4-0) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over 6.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Athletics.

Hudson has won all three of his starts since moving into the rotation, posting a 3.86 ERA and 12:5 K:BB over 18.2 innings in that span. While far from dominant, he's provided stable innings for a Cardinals rotation that has struggled with consistency all year. The right-hander is now at a 4.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB through 38 innings over 10 appearances (four starts) this season. Hudson is tentatively projected for a home start against the Mets over the weekend.
