Eovaldi (forearm) threw a bullpen session Friday, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports.

As scheduled, Eovaldi took the mound Friday for what was expected to be a heavier bullpen session following a lighter one Tuesday. The right-hander suffered a minor setback during his rehab, but the Rangers remain hopeful Eovaldi will not need a rehab start before rejoining the rotation.

Toussaint (2-7) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Detroit.

Toussaint blanked the Tigers over four frames before they tagged him for two runs in the fifth inning. He's been hit with a loss in four of his last six starts, posting an ugly 6.59 ERA during that stretch. For the year, Toussaint is sporting a 4.87 ERA and a 64:46 K:BB through 64.2 innings. He's currently lined up to start in Kansas City next week.

Rodriguez (10-7) allowed one run on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over the White Sox.

The White Sox scratched across a run in the third inning but couldn't get much going against Rodriguez otherwise. Since the All-Star break, he's gone 6-2 with a 3.76 ERA across 52.2 frames. He still owns a strong 3.11 ERA through 21 starts this season. Rodriguez is currently projected for a road matchup with the Yankees next week.

Sandoval (7-11) allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Athletics.

Sandoval was cruising until a troublesome fourth inning saw Oakland rally for all five runs on his line. It's the third time he's given up five-plus runs over his last four starts, but this is the first time since June 29 that he's surrendered five or more earned runs. The southpaw is at a 4.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 112:62 K:BB through 126.2 innings across 24 starts this season, failing to replicate his performance from 2022 when he posted a 2.91 ERA in 148.2 innings. Sandoval is lined up for a difficult home start versus the Orioles next week.

Sears (3-11) threw six scoreless innings in a win over the Angels on Friday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three.

Sears had an 8.25 ERA over five starts (24 innings) in August, but he started September with a much better performance. The southpaw likely benefited from facing an Angels team that has essentially run up the white flag on 2023. Nonetheless, Sears hasn't been all that good this year either with a 4.60 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 138:39 K:BB through 146.2 innings over 27 starts. He's tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Blue Jays next week.

Irvin (1-4) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Diamondbacks.

Irvin put together a pair of solid starts right after the Orioles moved to a six-man rotation, but he's given up four runs in each of his last two outings. The southpaw was tagged for two-run home runs by Lourdes Gurriel and Christian Walker. Irvin is at a 4.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 62:21 K:BB through 69.2 innings over 20 appearances (12 starts) this year. With John Means (elbow) nearing a return to the major-league roster, Irvin's time as a starter for the Orioles could again be coming to a close.

Ryu did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings while striking out three in the Blue Jays' 13-9 win over the Rockies.

Ryu was solid in a tough road setting in Colorado, limiting the damage to just a two-run homer by Elehuris Montero in the bottom of the third inning. The left-hander has now allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last five outings, posting a 1.50 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 24 innings in those starts. Ryu will look to keep the good times rolling in his next start, which is tentatively set to come in Oakland on Wednesday.

Paxton (7-5) yielded six runs on five hits and two walks over 1.1 innings while taking a loss against the Royals on Friday.

Paxton gave up a pair of solo home runs in the first inning before the Royals tagged him for four more runs in the second. He's thrown just 9.2 total innings while allowing 16 earned runs over his last three starts, and his season ERA has jumped from 3.34 to 4.50 during that span. Paxton is currently projected to start in Tampa Bay next week.

Lyles (4-15) allowed two runs on four hits over eight innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over Boston.

Lyles kept the Red Sox scoreless for seven frames before Alex Verdugo finally broke up the shutout with a two-run shot in the eighth inning. It's the fifth time this season that Lyles has tossed at least eight innings, but he was 0-4 in those outings prior to Friday's win. The veteran righty now owns a 6.29 ERA with a 104:40 K:BB through 150.1 frames. Lyles is currently lined up to face the White Sox at home next week.

Verlander (10-7) suffered the loss Friday, surrendering six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out three as the Astros were downed 6-2 by the Yankees.

Verlander struggled with the long ball, giving up a solo shot to DJ LeMahieu to open the game before Jasson Dominguez took him deep for a two-run blast with two outs in the first inning. He later gave two more solo shots to Giancarlo Stanton in the third and Aaron Judge in the fifth frame. Verlander had tossed 11 straight scoreless innings in his prior two starts, and his ERA since the beginning of August is still a respectable 3.86 over 35 frames.
