Houck allowed three hits and walked two while striking out three over three scoreless innings in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the White Sox.

Houck, who opened the season in the starting rotation, has since been used primarily as a piggyback reliever for No. 5 starter Rich Hill. After a brief two-game shaky stretch, Houck has allowed one run on five hits and four walks while striking out nine over 10 innings in his relief role. That's lowered his ERA to 4.28, but the right-hander continues to flirt with men on base; he's walked 15 and hit three batters over 33.2 innings.

Detmers (2-2) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, allowing five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters across six innings.

It was a positive that Detmers was able to give the Angels six innings in the contest -- this was only the second time all season that he has pitched that deep into a game. However, the southpaw was tagged for two fourth-inning homers and tied a season-worst mark by yielding five runs overall. Since hurling a no-hitter against Tampa Bay on May 10, Detmers has given up eight earned runs across 9.2 frames. Things won't get easier for him in the near future, as he's lined up to take on the Yankees in New York in his next start.

Quantrill (1-3) allowed two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings to take the loss against Houston on Wednesday. He struck out three batters.

Quantrill was shaky in the start, issuing four free passes and stranding four runners in scoring position. However, he navigated his way through six innings with the Astros putting only two runs on the scoreboard, finishing with his fifth quality start over his past six outings. He hasn't picked up any wins over that stretch though, and he remains stuck on just one victory on the campaign. His 3.42 ERA and 1.23 WHIP overall suggests that he probably deserves better, though a 28:19 K:BB across 47.1 innings is reason for concern. Quantrill is expected to make his next start at home against Kansas City next week.

Javier (3-2) earned the win over Cleveland on Wednesday, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings and allowing three hits and one walk while striking out nine.

Javier fanned nine batters -- a season high -- for the second straight game, and he racked up 20 swings-and-misses among his 96 pitches Wednesday. After working as a reliever at the beginning of the campaign, the right-hander has started in five of his past six outings and has performed well aside from a seven-run blowup in 3.2 innings against Washington on May 14. His recent big strikeout numbers have raised his fantasy appeal considerably and increased the likelihood that he'll remain a part of Houston's rotation even after Jake Odorizzi (leg) returns to action. Javier's next start is lined up to come in Oakland next week.

Giolito (3-1) earned the win Wednesday after he tossed six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and four walks while striking out seven versus the Red Sox.

Giolito surrendered his only run in the first inning after three straight reached with two outs in the frame, finishing his start with five scoreless innings. The right-hander logged his third quality start of the season while he also ended a four-game streak of giving up at least one home run. Since returning from the COVID-19 injured list May 18, he has given up three runs while striking out 14 over 11 frames in two outings. Giolito now owns a 2.63 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 51 punchouts over 37.2 innings in seven starts this season.

Hill (1-2) got the loss Wednesday after he pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out a batter versus the White Sox.

Hill pitched four hitless innings to open the contest, but he ran out of steam in the fifth frame. Jose Abreu doubled to open the inning, and after AJ Pollock reached on an error, Jake Burger took the left-hander deep for a three-run homer. It was the second straight start where the 42-year-old had an inning where he surrendered three or more runs after allowing two total runs over his prior four outings. Hill will carry a 3.86 ERA and 1.17 WHIP into his next start, which tentatively projects to be Monday against the Orioles at home.

Sears (2-0) earned the win Wednesday against the Orioles after giving up three hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five scoreless innings. He was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after the contest.

It's not a major surprise Sears was demoted after being called up for a spot start in the wake of Sunday's doubleheader against the White Sox, but it's still a tough draw after delivering a strong performance. The 26-year-old generated 10 swinging strikes and didn't allow an extra-base hit. Sears will return to the rotation for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but he should be in the mix throughout the rest of the season whenever the Yankees require a spot starter.

Bundy allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision.

Bundy kept the Tigers lineup in check, with the only damage coming on a solo home run by Harold Castro. He racked up 14 swinging strikes on 85 total pitches and struck out at least six batters for the third time in seven starts this season. Since returning from the COVID-19-related injured list, Bundy has allowed only one earned run across 8.2 innings. Overall, he has a 4.54 ERA and 31:8 K:BB across 33.2 frames.

Civale was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left glute soreness, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The 26-year-old righty exited his previous start with glute cramps but appeared set to make his next turn through the rotation Thursday in Detroit, but he's instead headed to the injured list. It still doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but Civale will nonetheless be out for the next couple weeks. Konnor Pilkington will be promoted from Triple-A Columbus to start Thursday's series opener against the Tigers.

Sears was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will start Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

The 26-year-old was reported as Wednesday's expected starter earlier in the day, and he's now officially been added to the big-league roster. Sears made his MLB debut earlier this season and has two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but it now time for his first major-league start. The left-hander has been dominant at Triple-A this year with a 1.25 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 30:2 K:BB across 21.2 innings. It'll likely only be a spot start for Sears since the Yankees' regular five-man rotation is healthy.
