Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Cole will make his next start Wednesday against the Orioles, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Cole was initially lined up for a two-start week that included a turn against the Phillies on Tuesday, but both of the Yankees' games in Philadelphia ended up being postponed due to coronavirus-related concerns. With MLB having since altered the Yankees' schedule and having booked matchups versus Baltimore at Camden Yards on Wednesday and Thursday, Boone indicated that Cole would get the ball for the first contest, while J.A. Happ likely gets the nod in the second game. Cole turned in an impressive debut July 23 in the season-opening win over the Nationals, striking out five over five frames while giving up one run (a solo homer to Adam Eaton).

Montgomery will start one of the Yankees' weekend games against the Red Sox, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Montgomery had been set to start Wednesday against the Phillies, but the Yankees' schedule has been shuffled around as the league waits to determine whether or not the Phillies have been caught up in the Marlins' COVID-19 outbreak after the two teams played each other in the season's opening series. Montgomery and Masahiro Tanaka (concussion) will start Saturday and Sunday, though the order of their two starts has yet to be determined.

Chirinos will start Tuesday against the Braves but won't be asked to pitch deep into the game, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Manager Kevin Cash said that expectations for the length of Chirinos' start were similar to those for Tyler Glasnow ahead of his start Monday, in which he threw 72 pitches over four innings. Chirinos threw 62 pitches in a simulated game Thursday after missing most of camp due to a positive COVID-19 test, so he should have no problem throwing roughly 75 pitches in this outing.

Springs allowed five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two over 1.1 innings in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Mets.

Springs entered as the bulk-innings pitcher but gave up bulk runs instead. He served up a two-run homer that left Pete Alonso's bat at 116.3 mph in the third inning then a three-run shot to Dominic Smith an inning later. Boston's plan to get by with openers and bulk-inning pitchers for the fourth and fifth slots in the rotation didn't begin well. Springs and Josh Osich put the Red Sox in an early 7-0 hole from which they could not dig out.

Bielak (1-0) pitched 3.1 innings Monday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out four to earn the win versus the Mariners.

Bielak relieved starter Josh James to begin the fourth inning. It was a strong relief outing for the 24-year-old Bielak, who had been called up to the Astros earlier Monday. He figures to remain in a long relief role during 2020, but could be a candidate for a spot start if necessary.

Glasnow didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 14-5 romp over Atlanta, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over four innings while striking out nine.

The Rays gave him plenty of run support, but Glasnow was on a restricted pitch count and got pulled after 72 pitches (45 strikes), denying him the win despite his dominance. The right-hander had similar issues last season when he was healthy, averaging barely five innings over his 12 starts, but the 1.78 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 11.3 K/9 he posted in 2019 highlight his sky-high upside.

Allard will replace Corey Kluber (shoulder) in the rotation, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers were dealt a blow Sunday when Kluber was diagnosed with a torn teres major muscle in the back of his right shoulder. He's been shut down for four weeks, which means he might not pitch again for six weeks. Allard, a former first-round draft pick, took a regular turn in the Rangers' rotation over the final two months of 2019 with mixed results. The left-hander was stretched out as a starter during summer camp, but it's unclear how many innings he'll be ready for the first time out. The Rangers have a few days off early in the season and will not need a fifth starter until Aug. 8.

Canning (0-1) gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in 4.2 innings Monday against the Athletics.

It's great to see Canning rack up the strikeouts in his first start of the season, but he threw 82 pitches (50 strikes) without getting out of the fifth inning. He will have another tough matchup Saturday at home against the Astros.

Bassitt struck out five across four scoreless innings Monday against the Angels while allowing five hits and one walk.

Bassitt did not go deep enough in this one to get the win. He threw 66 pitches (46 strikes), so the A's were clearly taking a cautious approach to his workload. With A.J. Puk (shoulder) out indefinitely, Bassitt's spot in the rotation should be ironclad if he keeps pitching well, as Jesus Luzardo would likely replace Daniel Mengden if he gets stretched out as a starter. Bassitt's next start should come Sunday in Seattle.

Anderson (oblique) will throw a simulated game Wednesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Anderson has been dealing with an oblique strain since early in camp but has been able to throw for nearly two weeks. It's not clear exactly how many pitches he's expected to throw Wednesday or how close he is to his return.
