Marco Gonzales RP | TEX
Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Moves to 5-0
Gonzales (5-0) picked up the win against the Rangers on Thursday, scattering six hits and no runs over seven strong innings, striking out nine with no walks in the Mariners' 14-2 victory.
It was a gem from the 27-year-old left-hander, who cruised to his fifth straight winning decision on a day in which he also got a monster effort from his offense. The Mariners needed Gonzales to pitch like an upper-tier starter this season, and so far he's delivering, as he's supporting the perfect record with a 2.80 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP and a 34:9 K:BB through 45 innings.

Gerrit Cole SP | NYY
Astros' Gerrit Cole: Swallows tough loss
Cole (1-4) took the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out 10 over seven innings Thursday against the Indians.
Cole fell victim to the home-run ball, as he gave up a pair of solo blasts on the way to a 2-1 loss. The 28-year-old certainly pitched well enough to win, though Trevor Bauer simply outdueled the right-hander. While Cole was saddled with the loss, it was good to see him respond from a horrific outing Saturday against the Rangers, when he allowed nine runs (eight earned) over 4.1 innings. Cole will carry a 4.71 ERA with 54 punchouts over 36.1 frames heading into his next outing Tuesday against the Twins.

Griffin Canning RP | SD
Angels' Griffin Canning: On big-league radar
Manager Brad Ausmus said Canning "is on the radar, for sure," Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Canning has been lights out for Triple-A Salt Lake so far this season, compiling a 0.56 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB through a trio of stats (16 innings). He was scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday in order to throw 90 pitches in an extended spring training game, a good indication that the 22-year-old could be close to making his big-league debut. Should the Angels promote Canning, they would first need to clear a spot on their 40-man roster.

Andrew Heaney RP | LAD
Angels' Andrew Heaney: Another bullpen on tap
Heaney (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Heaney's abbreviated bullpen session Wednesday went well, clearing the way for him to ramp things up over the weekend. According to manager Brad Ausmus, the southpaw will incorporate all of his pitches during Saturday's session. Look for his return timetable to clear up once he's further along in his throwing program.

Luis Severino SP | ATH
Yankees' Luis Severino: Transferred to 60-day IL
Severino (lat) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
This is simply procedural, as Severino, who has been sidelined all season, is still about a month away from resuming baseball activities. In a corresponding move, the Yankees signed Cameron Maybin to a major-league contract and added him to their active roster.

Tyler Cloyd SP | MIA
Mariners' Tyler Cloyd: Links up with Mariners
Cloyd signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
Cloyd has latched on with the Mariners after being cut loose by the Rays earlier in the month. The right-hander will report to Triple-A Tacoma, where he is scheduled to start Thursday. Cloyd owns a career 6.35 ERA and 1.65 WHIP across parts of four big-league seasons (112 innings).

Casey Mize SP | SD
Tigers' Casey Mize: Makes move to Double-A
The Tigers promoted Mize from High-A Lakeland to Double-A Erie on Thursday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
The Florida State League proved to be no challenge for Mize, who allowed just one run on seven hits and one walk over 26 innings while striking out 25. He'll face a stiffer test as he makes the move to the Eastern League, with his Erie debut set to come Sunday. Mize will occupy the same rotation as another hyped Tigers pitching prospect in Matt Manning, perhaps giving Erie the best 1-2 starter combination of any Double-A squad.

Gerrit Cole SP | NYY
Astros' Gerrit Cole: Confident in mechanics
Cole, who is starting Thursday against the Indians, is confident he's cleaned up his mechanical indicators that led to the worst start of his career last week, David Barron of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Rangers teed off on Cole starting with a five-run first inning and chased him after 4.1 innings and nine runs allowed. Cole felt he was tipping his pitches and worked to clean up his mechanics between starts. "I obviously didn't ask (the Rangers) if they knew what was coming, but I had kind of a gut feeling, and some of the guys on our team kind of identified what they could potentially be seeing," he said. "I had changed my set position a little bit from last year and actually anticipated maybe a little bit of a an adjustment period, and unfortunately it all came crashing down in one game." While the start against Texas was a bad one, Cole was able to rebound somewhat over the latter half of the outing.

Lucas Giolito SP | SD
White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Side session planned
Giolito (hamstring) will throw a side session Friday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Manager Rick Renteria said the right-hander will need at least one more session after Friday before management decides he's ready to return. Giolito, who threw a side session earlier this week, said he is pain-free.

Eduardo Rodriguez SP | ARI
Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Cruises to easy win
Rodriguez (2-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 11-4 victory over the Tigers, giving up one run on two hits and three walks over six innings while striking out seven.
The southpaw blanked Detroit for five innings before finally getting touched for a run in the sixth on a Niko Goodrum sacrifice fly. Rodriguez has delivered quality starts in two of his last three outings, and he'll take a 5.88 ERA and 28:10 K:BB through 26 innings into his next start Monday, at home against the A's.
