  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Pummeled in loss to Blue Jays

Glasnow (1-5) was hit with the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays, allowing seven runs on five hits and two walks while recording just two outs. He struck out two.

Glasnow just didn't have it in this one, as the young right-hander couldn't make it out of the first inning. He issued a leadoff walk before allowing four of the next five batters to reach via singles, putting the Blue Jays up 3-0. Glasnow then proceeded to serve up a three-run homer to Aledmys Diaz. The 25-year-old was almost out of the inning, but a wild pitch allowed Billy McKinney to reach base on a strike out and Glasnow was subsequently pulled having thrown 39 pitches. The disaster outing raised his ERA from 3.95 to 4.64. Glasnow look to right the ship in his next start, which will come at home against the Indians.

  • Framber Valdez SP | DET

Astros' Framber Valdez: Holds Minnesota to one run in win

Valdez (3-1) got the win Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings against the Twins.

Valdez didn't fool many hitters, inducing just six swings and misses, and he only threw first-pitch strikes to six of the 22 batters he faced, but he largely silenced Minnesota's bats on his way to picking up his third win in four outings. The young lefty has allowed either one or zero earned runs in every appearance to work toward a stellar 1.37 ERA over 19.2 innings, and he figures to continue seeing ample opportunities to pick up wins pitching in front of the potent Houston lineup. He'll look to keep rolling Tuesday in Detroit.

  • Twins' Jake Odorizzi: Takes loss against Houston

Odorizzi (5-10) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings against the Astros.

Odorizzi was tagged for a pair of two-run home runs and didn't have great control, with four walks and a hit by pitch. The 28-year-old has taken the loss in three consecutive outings and now sees his ERA sit at 4.57. He'll also carry a 1.36 WHIP and 148:61 K:BB across 147.2 innings into another tough matchup Wednesday against the Yankees.

  • Brad Keller RP | PHI

Royals' Brad Keller: Takes loss despite quality effort

Keller (7-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Indians, allowing three runs (one earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out five across seven innings.

The Indians tagged Keller for a season-high 11 hits, though only two went for extra bases and the right-hander was able to limit the damage. A pair of costly errors and an impressive outing from his counterpart (Corey Kluber) left Keller with his first loss since Aug. 7. He now owns a 1.97 ERA and 23:6 K:BB over his last five starts (32 innings). Next up is a home matchup against the White Sox.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Whiffs 10 in second straight win

Kluber (18-7) picked up the win Wednesday against the Royals, allowing one run on two hits and one walk across 6.2 innings. He struck out 10.

It was business as usual for Kluber, who allowed just two hits all evening while keeping the bases clear for five of the seven innings he appeared in. His 10 strikeouts were the most he's recorded in a start since May 30, and he's now primed to surpass 200 strikeouts for a fifth consecutive season. He'll carry a shiny 2.75 ERA into his next start, which will come on the road against the Rays.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Listed as Friday's starter

Bassitt is listed as the starter for Friday's game against the Rangers, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Bassitt will be eligible to rejoin the A's on Thursday after being optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 27. Daniel Mengden is unavailable to start Friday after working 4.2 innings in relief Tuesday, so Bassitt will slide into the rotation to make a spot start, though it's unclear if the 29-year-old righty will stick in the rotation beyond then. He owns a 3.19 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 28 strikeouts through 36.2 innings (seven starts) with the A's this season.

  • Deck McGuire SP | TOR

Angels' Deck McGuire: Recalled from Salt Lake

McGuire was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

McGuire will rejoin the big-league team after shuttling back and forth between Los Angeles and the minors throughout the past month. Across 16 appearances in the majors this year, he's logged a rough 6.47 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with a 27:20 K:BB in 32 innings. He will likely be deployed in low-leverage spots.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Tosses light bullpen Tuesday

McCullers threw from the slope of the mound Tuesday and may throw a regular bullpen session this weekend in Boston, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

This represents a significant step forward for the right-hander as manager A.J. Hinch previously said that McCullers wouldn't throw off a mound "any time soon" when asked about his status during the final week of August. The right-hander's timetable remains murky, but more should be known following this weekend.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Confirmed for Saturday's start

Morton (shoulder) will be reinstated from the 10-day DL ahead of Saturday's outing versus Boston, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Morton will return to the fold this weekend after tossing a pain-free bullpen session Tuesday. As expected, he will only wind up missing one turn through the rotation, but it wouldn't come as a surprise if Morton was on some sort of pitch count Saturday, especially considering the Astros have a wealth of reserve arms now that rosters have expanded. Across 26 starts this year, Morton has posted a 3.14 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Could miss rest of season

Manager John Gibbons said Wednesday that Stroman (finger) will not take the hill against Cleveland on Sunday and may not return again this season, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Gibbons stated that the club has yet to determine the course of action for Stroman at this point in time, but things aren't looking positive for the right-hander after he aggravated a blister on his pitching hand during Monday's outing. Prior to that start, Stroman was on the DL for a few weeks due to the blister issue, and the organization isn't going to put him back in harms way with the Blue Jays out of postseason contention. In his absence, Thomas Pannone will likely toe the rubber Sunday.
