Marcus Stroman gets win No. 5 in shutout

Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman ended his three-start winless streak Saturday, as he took down the Rangers, 4-1.

Stroman bounced back from a subpar outing in his last trip to the mound, as he finished seven innings without allowing a run Sunday. He allowed just four hits and did not issue a walk, while striking out five batters on 107 pitches in the win.

Stroman improved his record to 5-2 with the win, while he lowered his ERA to 3.58 in the start. His next start is set for Thursday against the Red Sox.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Corey Kluber fans 10 in third straight start

Indians pitcher Corey Kluber overpowered the Tigers en route to his 10th win of the season Saturday.

Kluber fell just one out short of his second complete-game of the season, but still twirled a gem. He allowed two runs on seven hits in 8 2/3 innings, while walking one and striking out 10 batters for the second time in three starts.

Kluber won his third start in a row and is now 10-6 on the season. He ranks ninth in the American League with a 2.95 ERA, and now has 152 strikeouts in just 140 1/3 innings of work. He will try to keep his winning streak going when he makes his next start, set for Thursday in Kansas City.

Kyle Gibson knocked around Friday against Rays

Twins pitcher Kyle Gibson had a rough outing Friday against the Rays.

Gibson gave up six runs on nine hits over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked one during the outing. Gibson ran into trouble in the third inning. After giving up two hits and a walk to load the bases, Gibson gave up a bases-clearing double to Evan Longoria. Ben Zobrist struck in the fifth inning, hitting a two-run shot of Gibson. In the seventh, Gibson allowed a single before he was taken out of the game. The run came around to score, and was charged to Gibson.

The loss drops Gibson to 8-8 on the season. His next start is slated to come against the Indians.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Alex Cobb can't turn in a quality start

Rays pitcher Alex Cobb fell just short of turning in a quality start Friday against the Twins.

Cobb gave up two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked two during the outing. The only real blemish against Cobb was a third inning home run. After giving up a single earlier in the inning, Cobb allowed a two-run shot to Trevor Plouffe. He was able to pitch out of trouble the rest of the way. Cobb threw 99 pitches during the outing.

The win brings Cobb to 5-6 on the season. His next start will come against Cardinals.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Jose Quintana receives another no decision

White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana picked up another no decision Friday against the Astros.

Quintana was solid during his start, allowing two runs on three hits over five innings. He struck out eight and walked two. Both runs against Quintana came in the second inning. After a Matt Dominguez single, Quintana allowed another hit to Jon Singleton. Dominguez came around to score after outfielder Dayan Viciedo misplayed the ball. Robbie Grossman then drove in the second run on a groundout.

The White Sox were able to mount a comeback once Quintana exited, giving him the no decision. His next start will come against the Royals.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

James Paxton to make at least two more starts before returning

Mariners pitcher James Paxton will make at least two more minor-league rehab starts before he is re-evaluated, according to the Seattle Times.

Paxton gave up two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out two over 2 2/3 innings in his first rehab start for Class A Everett Thursday. He'll throw a bullpen session and make his next start on Tuesday for Triple-A Tacoma, the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

James Paxton surrenders two runs in rehab start

Mariners pitcher James Paxton allowed two runs during a rehab start Thursday.

Paxton started for the Everett AquaSox. He lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits. Paxton walked one and struck out two during the appearance. Paxton's velocity was reportedly 91 mph to 94 mph, though he struggled with his control, according to Prospect Insider. He's expected to move his rehab to Triple-A provided he does not experience any setbacks.

  • Justin Masterson set for rehab start Sunday

Indians pitcher Justin Masterson will throw a rehab start Sunday, according to MLB.com.

Masterson plans on throwing off a mound Thursday. If that goes well, he'll start at Triple-A Columbus Sunday. Masterson is attempting to return from a knee issue. He's posted a 5.51 ERA over 98 innings.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Taijuan Walker likely won't be recalled to start Tuesday

Mariners starting pitcher Taijuan Walker has been pushed back to start Friday at Triple-A Tacoma, which means it's unlikely he will be back in the majors pitching on short rest Tuesday against the Mets, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

"Taijuan just needs a little more time," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "He got up here this year, fairly quick (after battling a shoulder injury). That was, more or less, out of necessity. What we’d like to do is have Taijuan get a few more games under his belt. But we’ll see. We haven’t made any kind of commitment."
