Nationals manager Dave Martinez confirmed Thursday that Gray will start Sunday's series finale against the Marlins, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Gray yielded four earned runs over just two innings (63 pitches) in his last rotation turn Monday against the Blue Jays, but Martinez said the 25-year-old looked sharp in his between-starts bullpen session Thursday afternoon in Washington. He'll stay on turn for now, though Gray might get a bit of extra rest at certain points down the stretch.

Butto will be added to the Mets' major-league roster Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Butto is expected to work out of the bullpen down the stretch. The 25-year-old has posted a 4.30 ERA in 14.2 innings (two starts, two relief appearances) this season at the major-league level and a 5.93 ERA in 91 innings (19 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse.

Lodolo (tibia) was ruled out Thursday for the remainder of the 2023 season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

It's rather unsurprising news after Lodolo suffered a second stress reaction in his left tibia last week while making a rehab start for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. The 25-year-old left-hander finishes the season with a 2-1 record, 6.29 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB in just seven major-league starts covering 34.1 innings.

The Nationals placed Gore on the bereavement list Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Gore will be required to miss at least three games and no more than seven as he tends to more important matters. Joe La Sorsa was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.

Carrasco will remain with the Mets after going unclaimed ahead of Thursday's waiver deadline, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Carrasco drew no interest from other teams after being placed on waivers by the Mets on Tuesday. There's a still a chunk of money remaining on his $14 million salary for 2023 and he's posted a rough 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 90 innings (20 starts) this season with New York. The 36-year-old right-hander is set to become a free agent in November.

Hill took a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals after striking out two while allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk across four innings.

The southpaw had made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen this past weekend in Milwaukee after opening his tenure with the Padres with three straight poor starts, but Hill reclaimed a spot in the San Diego rotation this week with Yu Darvish (elbow) heading to the 15-day injured list. Though Hill was spared the loss Wednesday, his performance didn't inspire much confidence that he'll be able to hold down a rotation spot once Darvish is back in the fold. Through five outings with San Diego since being acquired from Pittsburgh on Aug. 1, Hill has gone 0-3 with an 8.50 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 18 innings.

Sanchez did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits over 4.2 innings against the Angels. He struck out five.

It looked like Sanchez had found his rhythm after giving up a two-run homer to Hunter Renfroe in the top of the second as the left-hander followed up the mistake by hurling two scoreless frames. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth after he allowed back-to-back hits to open the inning, which then led to three runs coming across for Los Angeles. Sanchez had gone six innings in three straight starts coming in and it was the first time he failed to make it through at least five frames since June 17. On a positive note, he has not issued a walk in each of his last three outings and has now recorded at least five strikeouts in five straight.

Webb (9-11) took the loss Wednesday as the Giants were downed 4-1 by the Reds, giving up two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The right-hander delivered his NL-leading 19th quality start of the season -- only Gerrit Cole has more with 20 -- on 94 pitches (65 strikes), but Webb got little run support and is now winless over his last five outings. After posting a 3.49 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 29:3 K:BB through 38.2 innings in August, he'll kick off the final month of the season on the road, as he's lined up for a start early next week in Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

Greene (3-6) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in a 4-1 victory over the Giants. He struck out six.

The right-hander got back on track after coughing up 14 runs (13 earned) in only 6.2 innings during his first two starts in August. Greene generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 90 pitches as he collected his first win since June 17, as a lengthy IL stint due to a hip issue sidelined him for two months. The 24-year-old will look to carry that momentum into September, with his next outing likely to come at home next week against the Mariners.

Luzardo pitched six scoreless innings against Tampa Bay on Thursday, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out eight batters in a no-decision.

Luzardo held the Rays hitless through 5.1 frames until Yandy Diaz snapped the spell with a sixth-inning double. Luzardo got out of that frame unscathed on the scoreboard but didn't return for the seventh, having thrown 96 pitches. The left-hander racked up 16 whiffs en route to eight punchouts but had to settle for a no-decision since the Marlins' offense was unable to push any runs across the plate. Luzardo went through a rough stretch to end July and begin August, posting a 9.00 ERA and 2.24 WHIP over four starts (three losses) covering 17 innings. He's bounced back nicely, however, ending the current month with two straight scoreless outings during which he's allowed just three hits and posted a 15:3 K:BB over 12 frames.
