Yu Darvish SP | SD
Padres' Yu Darvish: Crushed for eight runs
Darvish (8-10) allowed eight runs on six hits and three walks over four innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Giants.
Nearly all of the damage against Darvish came via the long ball as he coughed up four homers in the ugly outing. Five of the runs came in the first inning, including a three-run shot by Evan Longoria. The veteran righty then yielded a pair of home runs in the fourth. It was the first time he's given up multiple homers in a start since July 31 and he's allowed at least four runs in six of his last eight appearances. Darvish's ERA is up to 4.32 with a 177:36 K:BB through 150 innings. He's lined up to take the mound in St. Louis this weekend.

Chris Paddack RP | TEX
Padres' Chris Paddack: Lands on IL
Paddack was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday due to right elbow inflammation.
According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, Paddack's arm felt tight Saturday following his start, and the Padres were unsure as to whether he could make his next start. This move is retroactive to Sunday, meaning he'll be available to come off the injured list beginning Sept. 22. Shaun Anderson was recalled in a corresponding move.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Giants' Jose Quintana: Returns from paternity leave
Quintana was reinstated from the paternity list Monday.
Quintana missed the standard three days while on paternity leave. Mauricio Dubon was optioned to clear space for his return to the roster.

Noah Syndergaard SP | CLE
Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Slated to face hitters
Syndergaard (elbow) threw off a mound Monday and is expected to face hitters in the coming days, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.
Syndergaard's recovery from Tommy John surgery was slowed in late August when he tested positive for COVID-19, but he's resumed throwing bullpens recently. The right-hander will take another step in his recovery when he faces hitters this week, and he'll likely have a better return timetable based on how he feels afterward.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Reinstated prior to start
Kershaw (forearm) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Monday's start against the Diamondbacks.
Kershaw will make his first major-league appearance since July 3 after missing time due to forearm inflammation. The southpaw made a rehab appearance at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday and allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out three in three innings. Although he'll be pitching on normal rest Monday, he likely won't be able to handle a full workload since he tossed just 49 pitches in his lone rehab appearance. Manager Dave Roberts noted that four innings and 60 pitches is a good target for the southpaw Monday night, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register.

Pablo Lopez SP | MIN
Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Bullpen on tap
Lopez (shoulder) will throw 25-to-30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The Marlins slowed Lopez's progression in late August after he made a three-inning rehab appearance Aug. 21, but he's now working toward building back up. It's not yet clear whether the right-hander will have enough time to rejoin the Marlins in 2021 with just under three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Monday return confirmed
Manager Dave Roberts confirmed Kershaw (forearm) will return from the 60-day injured list to start Monday's series opener versus the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
In what will mark his first outing with the Dodgers since July 3, Kershaw will take the hill on five days' rest after he completed a three-inning rehab start Sept. 7 for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He tossed 49 pitches in that outing, so the Dodgers are likely preparing for Kershaw to give them around four innings or 60 pitches in Monday's start. Kershaw is lined up to make his second start of the week Sunday in Cincinnati, where he'll likely be able to work deeper into the outing and have a better shot at factoring into any decision.

Logan Webb SP | SF
Giants' Logan Webb: Earns win despite average outing
Webb (10-3) earned the win Sunday against the Cubs after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while fanning five across six innings.
Webb hasn't lost a game since May 5 and has been a very consistent arm for the Giants. In fact, this was the first time he gave up more than three earned runs since early that outing against the Rockies, where he allowed six runs across 3.2 innings at Coors Field. His numbers have been nothing short of outstanding since the All-Star break, as he has gone 6-0 with a 2.21 ERA across 73.1 innings (12 starts) since then.
-
Sonny Gray SP | BOS
Reds' Sonny Gray: First loss since July
Gray (7-7) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Cardinals after allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while fanning six across seven innings.
Gray was on a run of eight straight starts without a loss but that impressive streak came to an end Sunday, though he also kept alive his streak of appearances allowing two or fewer runs -- it's up to five appearances now, a span in which he's also recorded three quality starts. Gray has been nothing short of outstanding since the beginning of August, going 4-1 with a 3.02 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP across 44.2 innings (eight starts) in that span.

Carlos Carrasco RP | ATL
Mets' Carlos Carrasco: Solid versus Yankees
Carrasco got a no-decision in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
Carrasco started Sunday's game in poor fashion, walking the first two Yankees and surrendering two runs in the opening frame. He settled down thereafter and was actually spotted a 4-2 lead after the second inning, but the teams went back and forth to eliminate Carrasco from being the pitcher of record. The 34-year-old has now permitted three runs or less in five straight starts and has a 3.62 ERA across 27.1 innings in the stretch.
