  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Roughed up by Rockies

Maeda (7-8) took the loss against the Rockies on Monday, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits over four innings, striking out five and walking two as the Dodgers fell 9-1.

Maeda only gave up one run through his first four innings, but things got away from him in the fifth as the Rockies tagged him for five more runs in that frame and chased him from the contest. The 31-year-old right-hander is still sporting respectable numbers overall, as he's got a 4.07 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and a 118:38 K:BB through 112.2 innings. He's scheduled to take the mound next at home against the Padres on Saturday.

  • Jon Gray SP | TEX

Rockies' Jon Gray: Tosses gem against Dodgers

Gray (10-7) picked up the win against the Dodgers on Monday, giving up one earned run on three hits over eight innings, striking out six and walking three as the Rockies bagged a 9-1 victory.

It was a fantastic outing for the right-hander, who worked eight innings for the first time all season while yielding just a single run to a tough Dodgers lineup. The solid effort brings his ERA down to 3.88 and his WHIP to 1.36 over 132.1 innings ahead of his next start, which will see him take on the Giants at home on Saturday.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Gives up four runs in win

Gray (6-6) gave up four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three through 5.1 innings to take the win over the Pirates on Monday.

Gray gave up only two runs going into the sixth inning and was pulled after giving up two singles in the frame. Unfortunately, the Reds bullpen would allow a grand slam that tacked those two runs onto his ERA. Despite the tough finish, Gray had a 2.24 ERA and a 39:7 K:BB in July. The right-hander has a 3.45 ERA with a 10.2 K/9 through 21 starts this season. Gray will make his next start Saturday against the Braves at SunTrust Park.

  • Merrill Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Flounders against Marlins

Kelly (7-11) took the loss Monday as the Diamondbacks fell 11-6 to the Marlins, coughing up seven runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings while striking out four.

A six-run second inning dug a hole for Arizona that the offense couldn't climb out of. Kelly has now lost five straight decisions, with his last win coming June 12, and he'll take a 4.52 ERA and 100:33 K:BB through 125.1 innings into his next start Sunday, at home against the Nats.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Promotion not yet official

Gonsolin has not yet been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Gonsolin is currently with the Dodgers, though he's not expected to be added to their active roster until Tuesday. The right-hander is a candidate to start Tuesday's game against the Rockies, though it would likely be an abbreviated outing if he does get the ball, as Julio Urias is expected to cover the majority of innings.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Brewers' Jordan Lyles: Traded to Milwaukee

Lyles was traded from Pittsburgh to Milwaukee on Monday in exchange for prospect Cody Ponce, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports.

The Brewers are replicating a trade from last season, when they acquired Lyles as a bullpen piece for the stretch run. He's likely to be a starter this time around, with Freddy Peralta pitching out of the bullpen and Brandon Woodruff (oblique), Jhoulys Chacin (lat), Jimmy Nelson (elbow) and Corbin Burnes (shoulder) all injured. Lyles' 5.36 ERA in 17 starts for Pittsburgh this season is worse than he deserves according to his peripherals, though his 4.81 FIP isn't particularly encouraging. Moving from PNC Park to Miller Park is unlikely to help bring his ERA down. Since Lyles was scheduled to start the Pirates' game Monday against the Reds, the team will now need to break in a new rotation member on short notice. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Lyles is expected to make his Brewers debut either Wednesday or Thursday against the Athletics.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Set to rejoin rotation

General manager John Mozeliak said Monday that Wacha will rejoin the rotation the next time the Cardinals require a fifth starter, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Wacha will draw back into the starting ranks as a replacement for Daniel Ponce de Leon, who failed to escape the fourth inning in a third consecutive outing in Sunday's loss to the Astros. After Ponce de Leon departed, Wacha came on to deliver 4.2 innings of one-run ball in long relief, earning himself another rotation shot in the process. Due to off days Monday and Friday, the Cardinals would have the luxury of getting by with a four-man rotation until Aug. 7 against the Dodgers, so Wacha may end up sticking in the bullpen for a few more days before making a start.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Gives up seven runs in loss

Davies (8-4) gave up seven runs on four hits and three walks while striking out one through five innings to take the loss against the Cubs on Sunday.

Davies only gave up four hits, but he gave up a grand slam and a three-run home run to Kyle Schwarber. Davies has a 3.56 ERA with a 5.8 K/9 and a 3.0 BB/9 through 22 starts this season, but his 5.20 xFIP suggests even more regression could be coming. Davies will make his next start Friday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Rotation spot not at risk

Eflin won't be losing his spot in the rotation despite his recent struggles, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Eflin has been in an extended rut, posting a 10.46 ERA and a 2.10 WHIP over his last six starts. He complained of a "heavy body" prior to his most recent disaster Saturday against the Braves, in which he allowed 10 runs while recording just eight outs. The Phillies appear to have no intention of sending him to the injured list to address that complaint, however, considering the issue to be nothing worse than the typical grind of a long season. The team doesn't have any clear alternatives to take his spot in the rotation due to Nick Pivetta's struggles and the failure of any Triple-A option to step forward, so the plan seems to be to have Eflin work through his issues on the fly.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Strikes out nine in win

Strasburg (14-4) gave up one run on two hits and no walks while striking out nine through seven innings to take the win over the Dodgers on Sunday.

Strasburg racked up 13 swinging strikes and 20 called strikes through 100 pitches to shut down the Dodgers. The 31-year-old has earned in a win in each of his last seven starts and has a 1.15 ERA through five starts in July. Strasburg will make his next start Saturday against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.
