  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Fires six scoreless frames

Darvish (3-4) earned the win Wednesday against the Reds after allowing only two hits over six shutout innings. He struck out seven and walked none.

Darvish has allowed zero runs and four hits in his last 12 innings, as he appears to have found his groove coming out of the All-Star break. The 32-year-old has a 4.46 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 126:50 K:BB through 109 innings and should take the mound next week at San Francisco.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Dealt tough loss

Gray (5-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Cubs after giving up two runs on two hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked none.

Gray served up a pair of solo homers but otherwise kept the Cubs off the basepaths, though the Reds were unable to provide him much offensive support. The right-hander has a 1.64 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 35:5 K:BB in his last four starts, and he'll look to continue that trend Monday at Milwaukee.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Posts sixth save despite run

Martinez allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout during the ninth inning to earn a save in a 6-5 victory against the Pirates on Wednesday.

The veteran allowed three singles, but he induced a groundout with the tying run at third base. He is 6-for-8 in save opportunities with a 3.18 ERA. Martinez is also 2-1 with a 1.15 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 22.2 innings this season.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Braves' Dallas Keuchel: Yields five runs in loss

Keuchel (3-3) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts across 5.2 innings while taking a loss against the Brewers on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, this is a step in the wrong direction for Keuchel. Coming into the afternoon, he had won his previous two outings and three of his last four. Before Wednesday, Keuchel owned a 2.11 ERA over his last three appearances. This loss isn't too concerning, though, as the Brewers are a good offensive club playing in a hitter-friendly park. Keuchel has a 3.58 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 37.2 innings this season. He will look to get back on track Tuesday at home against the Royals.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Wins fifth game

Anderson (5-2) tossed 5.2 shutout innings and allowed only one hit with three walks and three strikeouts to earn a victory against the Braves on Wednesday.

This victory ends a streak of three straight no-decisions for Anderson. Despite few wins, he's pitched well lately, posting a 2.45 ERA in his last five starts. Overall, Anderson has five wins with a 3.96 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 77.1 innings. Next, he is set to face the Reds at home Monday.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Back from bereavement

Lauer (personal) was reinstated from the bereavement list Wednesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Lauer is back with the big club after spending five days on the bereavement list. The southpaw is scheduled to return to the rotation Friday against the Cubs. Robbie Erlin was optioned to the minors to free up a roster spot for Lauer.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Bullpen goes well

Hamels (oblique) threw a 24-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Hamels reported no issues in what was his first mound session since landing on the injured list near the end of June. The left-hander is scheduled to throw another bullpen Saturday; if everything goes off without a hitch, Hamels could be cleared for a simulated game or rehab assignment thereafter.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

    Mets' Zack Wheeler: Resumes throwing

Wheeler (shoulder) played catch Wednesday, Matt Ehalt of Yahoo Sports reports.

Wheeler landed on the injured list Tuesday with a shoulder injury. His stay isn't expected to be a lengthy one, a notion supported by the fact that the right-hander has already resumed throwing. Wheeler is eligible to return next Tuesday.

  • Kyle Muller SP | ATH

Braves' Kyle Muller: Still battling control

Muller tossed 5.1 scoreless innings for Double-A Mississippi on Tuesday, giving up three hits and five walks while striking out five.

The 21-year-old southpaw has, in many ways, had a very impressive campaign in the Southern League, striking out 110 batters while serving up only five homers in 100.1 innings en route to a 3.50 ERA. However, Muller has also issued 62 free passes, with Tuesday's start being the third time in his last eight outings he's walked five batters. His big fastball and strong off-speed arsenal have allowed him to get away with it against Double-A hitters, but he'll need to improve his control significantly if he's going to hold down a regular rotation job in the majors -- otherwise, like Sean Newcomb before him, a move to the bullpen could be in his future.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Braves' Kevin Gausman: Fans 10 in rehab start

Gausman (foot) allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out 10 over six innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

This was Gausman's third and presumably final rehab appearance. He threw 104 pitches, with the only real blemish a homer he allowed to Logan Morrison in the second inning. Look for Gausman to slot back into the Braves' starting rotation Sunday against Washington, supplanting Bryse Wilson.
