  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Sent back to minors

Keller was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

With Trevor Williams (side) returning from the injured list Wednesday, Keller is no longer needed in the big-league rotation. The 23-year-old prospect has struggled in a trio of starts for the Pirates this season, posting a 10.50 ERA, 2.25 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB in 12 innings. Keller owns a solid 3.10 ERA and 74:25 K:BB in 58 innings with Triple-A Indianapolis this season, so he should get another shot with the big club later this season.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Activated ahead of start

Williams (side) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Tigers.

Williams is ready to rejoin the rotation after spending a little more than a month on the shelf with a right side strain. The right-hander allowed two runs while striking out five across three innings in his lone rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis last week. Prior to landing on the IL, Williams compiled a 3.33 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 42:10 K:BB in nine starts (54 innings) for the Pirates. Mitch Keller was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.

  • Pirates' JT Brubaker: Begins rehab assignment

Brubaker (forearm) covered 2.2 innings in a rehab start Tuesday for short-season West Virginia. He gave up a run on two hits and one walk and struck out three in the 50-pitch outing.

Brubaker has been on Triple-A Indianapolis' 7-day injured list since late April while recovering from a right forearm strain. Assuming he experiences no setbacks coming out of Tuesday's outing, Brubaker could make one more start at a lower-level affiliate before rejoining the Indianapolis rotation.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Pirates' Jordan Lyles: Completes simulated game

Lyles (hamstring) tossed a four-inning simulated game Tuesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Rather than sending Lyles out on a rehab assignment, the Pirates elected to keep the right-hander on hand in Pittsburgh to test out his tight left hamstring in front of the team's medical staff. Manager Clint Hurdle said afterward that Lyles' next step is "to be determined," but if his hamstring responds well to the simulated-game action, he could return from the 10-day injured list to rejoin the rotation as soon as Sunday against the Padres. Steven Brault and Mitch Keller are the other candidates to take the hill that day if Lyles needs more time to recover from the injury.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Listed as Friday's starter

The Phillies are listing Nola as their probable starter for Friday's game against the Marlins.

Entering the week, Nola was lined up to start the final game of the Phillies' series in Washington on Thursday, but a pair of postponements seems to have resulted in him getting pushed back a day in the pitching schedule. Assuming the Phillies and Nationals are able to get in both ends of a twin bill Wednesday, Nick Pivetta will get the nod Thursday while Nola returns to action at home versus Miami this weekend. The additional day of rest can probably only help Nola, who has a 7.71 ERA over his last three starts.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Brought back to big leagues

Ynoa was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.

The transaction is Ynoa's third in the span of five days, as he was previously called up Saturday and sent down Monday. He threw two scoreless innings in his only career big-league outing during his previous stint with the team. Sean Newcomb landed on the 7-day concussion injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Headed to injured list

Lopez (shoulder) will be placed on the injured list, Craig Mish of FNTSY reports.

According to Mish, Lopez is undergoing tests on his shoulder back in Miami. More information should be known regarding the severity of the issue once the results are disclosed. Zac Gallen will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move and will take Lopez's place in the rotation in the meantime.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Marlins' Zac Gallen: Set for big-league debut

Gallen will be promoted from Triple-A New Orleans to start Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Craig Mish of FNTSY reports.

Gallen is set to make his big-league debut after dominating in 14 starts for New Orleans, compiling a 1.77 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 112:17 K:BB in 91.1 innings. The young right-hander will replace Pablo Lopez -- who is reportedly headed to the injured list with a shoulder injury -- in the rotation, and he should have a good chance to stick around if he holds his own.

  • Ranger Suarez SP | BOS

Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Joins club for doubleheader

The Phillies recalled Suarez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Suarez will serve as the 26th man for the twin bill and should offer a long arm out of the bullpen if needed for either contest. He'll likely head back to Triple-A at the conclusion of the doubleheader.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Saddled with second loss

Woodruff (8-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six as the Brewers fell 4-1 to the Padres.

While it wasn't a terrible outing, it ended the right-hander's seven-decision winning streak, during which Woodruff had posted a 3.39 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 76:19 K:BB over 66.1 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start Sunday, at home against the Reds.
