  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Chased in fourth inning

Eflin (5-5) yielded three runs on six hits and one walk in 3.2 innings Sunday, striking out four and taking the loss against Milwaukee.

Eflin got through two frames unscathed but allowed homers in the third and fourth innings. It was the first time he'd allowed more than one long ball in a start since April 13. Eflin came down with a stomach bug approximately two hours prior to first pitch, which may have contributed to his struggles, per Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic. Even with the ugly outing, Eflin owns a solid 3.02 ERA and 51:14 K:BB across 65.2 frames in 2019. The 25-year-old will take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Saturday.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Dominates Phillies for seventh win

Woodruff (7-1) allowed one run on one hit across eight innings, striking out 10 and earning the victory over Philadelphia on Sunday.

He was perfect through five frames before Aaron Knapp took Woodruff deep for a solo shot on his lone mistake of the day. On top of mowing down the Phillies on the mound, he also went 2-for-3 with a couple of RBI at the dish. The 26-year-old has now picked up a win in each of his last six decisions dating back to April 16. Woodruff will carry a 3.22 ERA into Pittsburgh on Saturday.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Reds' Alex Wood: Could begin throwing program

Wood (back) could begin a throwing program back in Cincinnati with the Reds when they return home next week, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

It's still a long way back for Wood, who doesn't have an official timetable for his return. "If all goes well, he would stay with us and keep his throwing program up until the time he needs to start adding bullpens, and hopefully he takes the next step of pitching in games on a rehab assignment," manager David Bell said.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Sticking in bullpen

Velasquez will continue to be used out of the bullpen, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Velasquez was a candidate to start Tuesday against the Cardinals, but Nick Pivetta will instead take the mound. Velasquez delivered two scoreless innings with four strikeouts Friday against the Brewers, and the Phillies apparently liked what they saw and want to keep him in that role. The 26-year-old could be utilized in a high-leverage spot but may see usage in a variety of situations early on.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Next start coming Friday

Lucchesi is scheduled to make his next start May 31 against the Marlins, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

He'll be returning to the mound on six days' rest after striking out 11 over 6.2 innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday. Lucchesi had initially been lined up to start in the Padres' series finale with the Yankees in New York on Wednesday, but that assignment will now fall to Chris Paddack, who was moved back in the schedule while he manages a stiff neck. Lucchesi's fantasy managers probably won't complain about him getting pushed back, as he'll now trade a matchup with a powerful offense in a tough ballpark for a home start against the Marlins' MLB-worst hitting attack (67 wRC+).

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Demoted after Saturday's start

Quantrill (1-2) picked up his first big-league win in Saturday's 19-4 triumph over the Blue Jays, tossing six innings and giving up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out nine. He was optioned to Triple-A El Paso after the contest, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Despite submitting what was easily the best of his four starts thus far in the big leagues, Quantrill was sent back to the farm with an upcoming off day May 30 allowing the Padres to get by with a shortened rotation for the time being. Quantrill will likely rejoin the big club shortly after he spends the requisite 10 days in the minors. The Padres recalled Luis Perdomo from El Paso in a corresponding move to give the bullpen another fresh arm.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Scratched with neck stiffness

Paddack was scratched from Sunday's start against the Blue Jays with neck stiffness, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Paddack apparently woke up with a stiff neck and will be unable to pitch in Sunday's series finale, with Robbie Erlin making the spot start. The Padres currently plan for Paddack to retake the mound Wednesday against the Yankees.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Activated for start

The Dodgers activated Maeda (thigh) from the 10-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Pirates, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Maeda missed just one turn through the rotation as a result of the thigh issue, with multiple off days enabling the Dodgers to get by with four starters for the past week and a half. The right-hander isn't expected to have any specific limitations with his pitch count in his return to action, though it's possible the Dodgers are more conservative than usual with Maeda since he'll be coming off an injury.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Yields six runs

Musgrove (3-5) allowed six runs on 10 hits with one strikeout and no walks across five innings to take the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday.

His hot-and-cold season continues. Musgrove has allowed more than five runs in three of his starts this year while he hasn't yielded a single run in three other outings. He has permitted only two home runs and 17 walks over 59 innings, and opponents are hitting just .229 against him, but he pitches to contact, which has gotten him into trouble. Because of poor defense, Musgrove has allowed seven unearned runs in 15 appearances. Overall, he is 3-5 with a 4.27 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 45 strikeouts in 59 innings this year. He is scheduled to face the Brewers on Thursday.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Rough loss against Orioles

Freeland (2-6) allowed seven runs on 10 hits and a walk over four innings, taking the loss against the Orioles on Saturday.

Freeland struck out only two batters in the game. A nightmarish season continued for the left-hander, who has now gone six starts without a win. Freeland's ERA ballooned to 6.71 with a 1.53 WHIP and 48 strikeouts in 56.1 innings. After posting a 2.85 ERA and 17 wins in 2018, Freeland has made it hard to trust him with only three quality starts in 11 outings. He is expected to start Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.
