  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Will rest for 10 days

The Pirates will reassess Williams (oblique) in 10 days to determine whether he'll be ready to begin baseball activities, general manager Neal Huntington told 93.7 The Fan.

Huntington said that the amount of time it takes for Williams to resume activity will help dictate the time needed for a return. The general manager added that he's "cautiously optimistic" the injury isn't of a long-term nature, though he said it's not a short-term injury, either. Williams pitched 3.2 innings of one-run ball before suffering the oblique injury in Thursday's game.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Burned by long ball

Eickhoff allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five across five innings Sunday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.

Eickhoff allowed three home runs, accounting for all four of his earned runs in the contest. His skills were solid otherwise, as he managed to generate 15 swinging strikes and started 13 of the 22 batters he faced with a strike. However, his struggles with the long ball overshadow any positive work, as he's now allowed five home runs across his last two starts -- a span of nine innings. He'll look to be more effective in keeping the ball in the yard in his next start but will face a tough test at Milwaukee on Friday.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Takes loss against Pirates

Quantrill (0-2) took the loss against the Pirates on Sunday, giving up five earned runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out two and walking two as the Padres fell 6-4.

Quantrill was called up from Triple-A El Paso to make this spot start and had a rough outing, with most of the damage coming on a three-run long ball he gave up to Colin Moran in the first inning. He had posted respectable stat lines in his other two big-league starts prior to this contest, and with Chris Paddack and Matt Strahm each having their workloads managed, Quantrill may continue to receive spot starts throughout the season.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

    Pirates' Mitch Keller: Start bumped

Keller had his start at Triple-A Indianapolis scheduled for Sunday pushed back to Tuesday, Stephen J. Nesbitt of The Athletic reports.

The change in schedule was not related to an injury, and the Pirates need a starter for Wednesday's game against Colorado. The 23-year-old prospect has been working on developing a slider at Triple-A Indianapolis, but he could be deemed ready to join the big-league club. He's managed only a 3.83 ERA and 1.50 WHIP this season but has shown improved command of late, walking six in his last 20 innings of work.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Chased early by Phillies

Freeland lasted just 1.2 innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Sunday, giving up three earned runs on four hits, striking out two and walking three as Colorado lost 7-5.

The 26-year-old had lasted at least five innings while limiting the damage to three earned in each of his last two starts, but he suffered a setback in this one: He was erratic with his command and was forced from the contest after issuing three walks and tossing 65 pitches. This has been a rough start to the season for Freeland, who saw his ERA shoot up to 6.02 and his WHIP to 1.43 over 52.1 innings.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Dominates again in win

Ryu (6-1) gave up no runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five through seven innings in a win over the Reds on Sunday.

Ryu cruised through seven innings to earn his third consecutive win. The left-hander is having a ridiculous stretch, pitching at least seven innings and posting a 0.69 ERA with a 36:1 K:BB in his last five starts. He has a 6-1 record with a 1.52 ERA through nine starts this season. Ryu will makes his next start Saturday at PNC Park.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Tosses quality start in no-decision

Woodruff was effective in his start Sunday against Atlanta, allowing two runs on five hits in eight innings, but he didn't factor into the decision. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

The only runs Woodruff allowed came off solo shots by Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman. The long ball has not been a problem for Woodruff this season, as he had not given up a homer in his previous four starts and has allowed only four total in his 10 starts this year. After a five-run pounding by the Dodgers on April 21, Woodruff's earned run average stood at 5.81; since then, he has allowed only five earned runs in 30 innings to lower his season ERA to 3.51. He'll look to continue the hot streak Sunday versus the Phillies in his next outing.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Takes first loss in May

Syndergaard (3-4) tossed seven innings Sunday, yielding two runs on five hits and a walk while taking the loss in Miami. He struck out three batters.

Syndergaard was locked into a pitcher's duel with Sandy Alcantara through five innings before Miami finally put a run on the board in the sixth frame. The low strikeout number is disappointing, but it's still a promising start from the 6-foot-6 right-hander. He lowered his ERA to 4.50 after entering May with a hideous 6.35. Thor will look to get back in the win column at home against Detroit on Friday.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Fires two-hit shutout

Alcantara (2-4) twirled a shutout Sunday, yielding one walk and two hits while striking out eight in a win over the Mets.

Alcantara was dynamite Sunday, forcing three double plays before the Mets could get any momentum against him. He needed just 89 pitches to finish off the game, notching a season-high strikeout total in the process. The 23-year-old righty dropped his ERA to 4.25 in 53 innings this season. Alcantara will look to ride this momentum in Washington on Saturday.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Called up to start Sunday

Quantrill was called up from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday to start against the Pirates.

The Padres continue to be vigilant in providing extra rest days for Chris Paddack and Matt Strahm, prompting Quantrill to be called upon for the spot start. The 23-year-old has performed fairly well in his two major-league starts this season with a 3.60 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB across 10 innings.
