  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Dodgers' Alex Wood: Start pushed back to Monday

Wood will start Monday's game against Cincinnati, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

Wood was scheduled to take the hill in Sunday's series finale against Colorado, but they'll hand Rich Hill the start instead. Wood has looked sharp of late, allowing just seven earned runs over his previous six outings (32.2 frames).

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Dodgers' Rich Hill: Outing bumped up to Sunday

Hill will start Sunday against the Rockies, Pedro Moura of The Athletic reports.

Hill was initially slated to toe the rubber Monday against the Reds, but the Dodgers have since elected to push Alex Wood's start to Monday instead. Hill has gone 2-1 over his previous three starts, allowing seven runs through 17 innings.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Scratched from minor-league start

Wacha won't make his scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Memphis on Friday due to oblique discomfort.

Wacha will travel back to St. Louis for further evaluation. The next step in his recovery process figures to be revealed after his examination by team doctors, although this certainly isn't a positive sign for the 27-year-old right-hander.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Returns from DL

Stripling (back) was activated from the 10-day disabled list for Friday's game against the Rockies, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Stripling was placed on the shelf Aug. 15 due to a back issue, and after successfully tossing a simulated game Wednesday, he'll. be available out of the bullpen in the series opener. He'll be used in long relief for the time being, but he could make a spot start sometime within the next few weeks, per Pedro Moura of The Athletic.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Scheduled for Sunday's start

Mahle will start Sunday against the Padres, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Mahle is taking the place of Homer Bailey in the Reds' rotation and initially appeared lined up to start Monday against the Dodgers, but as he hasn't pitched since Aug. 30 he'll instead be bumped up a day. He allowed 20 earned runs in 10.2 innings over his last four big-league starts but may have righted the ship at Triple-A Louisville, as he posted a 2.73 ERA there in five starts after an early August demotion.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Joins starting rotation

Mahle will take Homer Bailey's spot in the Reds' starting rotation, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Mahle currently lines up to pitch Monday against the Dodgers, but the Reds could opt to start him over the weekend as he hasn't seen game action since Aug. 30 with Triple-A Louisville. The 23-year-old was having a solid rookie campaign through his first 18 starts -- 3.66 ERA and 1.39 WHIP -- but allowed 22 runs (20 earned) over his last four starts (10.2 innings) before being sent down in early August.

  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

    Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Roughed up

Greinke allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four across 5.1 innings Thursday against the Braves. He did not factor into the decision.

Greinke looked uncomfortable on the mound from the very start of the game, uncharacteristically throwing two wild pitches in the first inning. Things didn't improve for him from there, as he allowed a two-run homer in the fourth followed by a solo shot in the sixth. While his ERA still sits at a strong 3.08 mark -- good for eighth in the National League -- Greinke has now allowed multiple home runs in three of his past five starts.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Falls short of quality start

Strasburg (7-7) didn't factor in the decision in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs. He allowed three runs (two earned), six hits, three walks and struck out six over 5.2 innings.

Strasburg needed 111 pitches to get through 5.2 innings, and he has now allowed multiple walks in four of his last five starts. Overall, it's been a disappointing season by Strasburg's standards, as he carries a 4.04 ERA with a 124:30 K/BB ratio over 107 innings (18 starts). He'll look to improve on those numbers in his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Phillies.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Allows three homers in loss

Castillo (8-12) took the loss against the Padres on Thursday, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits over five innings. He didn't allow a walk and stuck out seven.

Coming off an impressive start against the Cardinals in his previous outing, Castillo gave up three home runs in a start for the first time this season against the Padres on Thursday night. A costly error in the fourth inning led to three unearned runs after Francisco Mejia connected on a three-run shot to give the Padres a 5-0 lead. Castillo continues to show his strikeout upside (9.0 K/9 in 2018), but maintaining consistency has been one of his biggest challenges. He'll carry a 4.79 ERA into his next start, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Dodgers.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Strikes out eight in no-decision

Lauer (5-7) settled for a no-decision Thursday, lasting four innings while allowing two hits and three walks. He stuck out eight.

Making his second start following a stint on the disabled list, Lauer was pulled after throwing 86 pitches. The young lefty cruised through the first three innings, but he loaded the bases to start the fourth frame and was able to successfully work his way out of the jam. The eight strikeouts tied his highest total of the season, and he hasn't allowed an earned run in nine innings since returning from the disabled list. He'll look to pitch deeper and keep things rolling in his next start, which is currently slated for Wednesday against the Mariners.
