  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Goes five innings in no-decision

Hendricks gave up four runs (one earned) on six hits over five innings and did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 10-inning win over the Nationals. He struck out six.

Hendricks pitched reasonably well and could have escaped with his 12th win of the season with better defense behind him. The big blow against the righty was a two-run home run by Mark Reynolds in the fourth inning, with both of the runs going down as unearned. Hendricks has allowed two earned runs or fewer in his last four starts, and he'll look to keep rolling Tuesday in a pivotal matchup against the Brewers.

  • Braves' Touki Toussaint: To start vs. Arizona on Sunday

Toussaint will take the mound for Sunday's series finale against the Diamondbacks, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Toussaint will remain in the rotation as manager Brian Snitker sticks with a six-man staff for the time being. The right-hander was dealt the loss during his last outing Monday against Boston, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Summoned from minors

Fried was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Fried was activated from the disabled list at the end of August, but the Braves wanted to see him make one more appearance for Gwinnett before joining the big-league bullpen. He tossed 81 pitches in his final rehab appearance for the Stripers -- allowing two runs while striking out eight across five innings -- so he figures to work in a long-relief role for the big club down the stretch. Fried owns a solid 3.14 ERA and 36:17 K:BB across 28.2 innings (10 appearances, five starts) with the Braves this season.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Tests come back clean

Wheeler's CT scan came back negative after he was drilled with a line drive in the chest during Wednesday's game, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Wheeler was able to remain in the game following a Justin Turner liner in the fourth inning, finishing the night with three earned runs off three hits and two walks while striking out nine across seven innings. In addition, he underwent post-game X-rays, which also came back clean. The Mets haven't confirmed his status for his projected start against the Marlins next week, but it doesn't look like he'll be forced to miss any time.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Peppered by Mets in loss

Ryu (4-2) took the loss Wednesday, giving up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits over six innings while striking out eight as the Dodgers fell 7-3 to the Mets.

Only two of those 11 hits went for extra bases -- both doubles -- and Ryu could have had a much better result with a bit more BABIP luck. It was still the southpaw's third quality start in five outings since returning to the rotation, and he'll carry a 2.47 ERA into his next start Tuesday in Cincinnati.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Allows three in no-decision

Senzatela allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings in Wednesday's win over the Giants. He did not factor into the decision.

Senzatela was hit fairly hard, allowing a homer and two doubles on his way to allowing at least nine hits for the second time in three starts, but he was able to escape with a relatively manageable line in this one. The 23-year-old will take a 4.92 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 52:23 K:BB over 67.2 innings into Tuesday's divisional clash with Arizona.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Picks up 12th win

Taillon (12-9) earned the win Wednesday against the Reds, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out six across five innings.

Taillon served up a solo homer to Jose Peraza in the first inning but settled in from there, blanking the Reds over the next four innings before exiting with a 3-1 lead. While he didn't issue any walks, the right-hander needed 100 pitches (66 strikes) to get through five innings as he faced the minimum just once. It marked the first time since July 20 that Taillon was unable to complete six innings. He'll carry a 3.40 ERA into his next start, which will come on the road against the Cardinals.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Shuts down Phillies in win

Alcantara (2-0) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Phillies, scattering three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings while striking out six.

The right-hander only allowed one Phillie to even get into scoring position. Alcantara's control wasn't quite as sharp as the line would make it seem, as he hit two batters, but it was still the rookie's best performance in the majors by far. He'll take the mound again next Wednesday on the road against the Mets.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Notches first save of season

Martinez picked up his first save of the season Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing two hits while striking out four across two scoreless innings.

With closer Bud Norris (coach's decision) and Jordan Hicks (rest) both unavailable, Martinez was called upon to pitch the final two innings of Wednesday's 7-6 win. He allowed a single in each inning but otherwise kept the Nationals at bay to secure his first save since 2014. While the Cardinals would likely prefer to use Martinez in a multi-inning role, there's a chance he could see some save chances down the stretch if manager Mike Shildt opts to mix and match in the ninth inning.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Picks up win over Nationals

Mikolas (14-4) picked up the win Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing four runs on 12 hits while striking out two across 6.2 innings.

Mikolas was far from dominant in this one, but the Cardinals provided him with plenty of run support en route to his team-best 14th win. The right-hander was through four scoreless before allowing a pair of run-scoring doubles in the fifth and sixth frames. He was then pulled with two outs and two on in the seventh inning and both runners would come around to score on Dakota Hudson, spoiling what would have been Mikolas' first quality start in four outings. Mikolas will carry a 3.06 ERA into his next start, which will come at home against the Pirates.
