  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Recalled from Lehigh Valley

Thompson was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Thompson will return to the Phillies' bullpen for Wednesday's series finale in order to provide a fresh arm after the club played 16 innings Tuesday. Across six appearances this year, he's logged a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He will likely be utilized as a middle-relief man during his time with the team.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Officially recalled ahead of start

The Dodgers officially recalled Buehler from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Phillies.

Manager Dave Roberts heavily implied Sunday that Buehler would rejoin the rotation this week and confirmed the rookie's appointment to the big club Tuesday before the transaction made it official. Buehler, who carries a 3.45 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over 57.1 innings into the start, should make for a solid lineup option in most formats nearly every time he takes the mound. However, it's uncertain if he'll stick in the rotation the rest of the season with the Dodgers already having five other healthy, high-performing starters on hand.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Officially recalled from minors

Peralta was called up from Low-A Wisconsin prior to his start against Washington on Wednesday.

As expected, Peralta will take the hill for his eighth big-league start of the season during Wednesday's series finale. Across 37.1 innings, he's logged a 2.65 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 12.1 K/9.

  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Tosses quality start in no-decision

Gomber allowed two runs on two hits and two walks across 6.1 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Reds. He struck out six.

Gomber pitched quite well in his first start with the club, carrying a no-hit shutout into the seventh inning before Eugenio Suarez chased him with a two-run home run. He limited baserunners to great effect and needed an efficient 90 pitches to record his 19 outs. While he posted a mediocre 7.0 K/9 as a reliever, his strikeout total was useful in this start, though it remains to be seen if he can sustain that, should he remain in the rotation. Nevertheless, it was a positive outing for Gomber and he should get another turn in the near future.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Tosses quality start in win over Indians

Musgrove (4-4) allowed two runs on five hits and one walk across seven innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Indians. He struck out two.

Musgrove rose to the occasion in a difficult matchup as he allowed just a run on two hits in the first inning before conceding a solo home run to Edwin Encarnacion in the fourth. He fired in an impressive 74 percent of his pitches for strikes and induced 12 groundball outs to help his cause. Musgrove was knocked around for five runs in his previous start, but this solid outing brings his ERA back to a respectable 3.90 for the season. He'll look to build off this performance this weekend against the Mets.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Seven strong innings in win over Padres

Wheeler (4-6) allowed two runs on four hits and one walk across seven innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Padres. He struck out three.

Wheeler pitched quite well and limited baserunners to great effect, aside from the third inning when he allowed a pair of runs on three hits and a walk. He was rather efficient as well, needing just 99 pitches (65 strikes) to power through seven frames. Wheeler scuffled a bit over his previous two outings, but this quality start lowered his ERA back to 4.33 ahead of this weekend's scheduled matchup with the Pirates.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Roughed up in loss

Lauer (5-7) gave up six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over four innings in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday.

Lauer gave up three runs in the opening frame, and was never able to rebound before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth. The southpaw threw 51 of his 85 pitches for strikes, but he only managed 10 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced. The 23-year-old has now given up 11 earned runs over his last two starts (six innings), a far cry from the 2.33 ERA he posted over his previous eight outings. Lauer's recent struggles make him a risky fantasy play for his next scheduled start Monday, even in a favorable home matchup against the offensively-challenged Giants.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Fires 7.1 strong innings in no-decision

Anderson allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four over 7.1 innings in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Anderson fell into a 2-0 hole just two batters into the game following an error and two-run homer, but he recovered well to shut down the Houston bats from that point on. With just five swinging strikes and four strikeouts, his stuff wasn't overpowering Tuesday, but it was good enough for a fifth straight start allowing two runs or fewer. The lefty has a 1.32 ERA over four starts in July, lowering his mark on the season to 3.57. He'll look to keep rolling Monday in St. Louis.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Tosses five solid innings

Nola did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's 16-inning win over the Dodgers. He allowed three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five and issuing two walks.

It was Nola's worst start since allowing four runs over 4.1 innings at Milwaukee in mid-June, and marked only the fourth time in 21 starts he failed to complete six innings. It certainly wasn't a bad start for the 25-year-old -- it speaks to the fantastic season he's put together thus far. Nola has a 2.42 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 136 strikeouts across 134 innings as he prepares for a tough matchup at Boston on Monday.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Takes no-decision Tuesday

Maeda did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's 16-inning loss to the Phillies, allowing four runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Maeda was downright dominant through six innings Tuesday -- one run allowed on three hits -- but was tagged for three runs in the seventh inning, including a two-run bomb from Jorge Alfaro to tie the game 4-4. It was still a solid start for Maeda, but this was the first time since mid-May he allowed more than three runs. The 30-year-old will carry a 3.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP into his expected start against the Brewers next Monday.
