Seth Lugo SP | KC
Mets' Seth Lugo: Loses start against Diamondbacks
Lugo (2-2) was tagged with the loss against the Diamondbacks on Friday, yielding five earned runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking one in the Mets' 7-3 defeat.
Lugo picked up the win in his first turn filling in for the injured Noah Syndergaard with a brilliant outing in his last start, but he didn't fare as well against Arizona, as he was victimized by a pair of long balls from Paul Goldschmidt and Daniel Descalso. While it wasn't as inspiring a showing as his last effort, Lugo's numbers on the season -- including a 2.49 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP over 50.2 innings as both a reliever and a starter -- are still strong. He's also in line to keep getting starts in the interim with Syndergaard's return date still up in the air, so he should get more of a chance to prove he can thrive in the expanded role.

Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Yet to resume throwing
Wainwright (elbow) has been working out and is readying his body to pitch again since being placed on the 60-day disabled list May 17, but has yet to receive clearance to begin a throwing program, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Despite having yet to progress to throwing off flat ground, Wainwright said that he expects to be ready to pitch by the time he's eligible to return from the DL, which would fall around the All-Star break. As part of his recovery process, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that Wainwright had a platelet-rich-plasma injection in his right elbow earlier in the week. In order to have a realistic chance at being activated by mid-July, Wainwright will probably have to initiate a throwing program by the final week of June, since multiple rehab starts would likely be on the docket for the veteran right-hander. Prior to being shut down by the elbow injury, Wainwright made all four of his appearances in the St. Louis rotation, but it seems likely that he'll have to settle for a bullpen role if all of the Cardinals' current starters are healthy by the time he's ready to return.

Clayton Kershaw SP | LAD
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Throws 55 pitches off mound Friday
Kershaw completed a 55-pitch session including a simulated inning break without issue Friday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
One of the biggest concerns with Kershaw's back injury was his endurance across not just a high pitch count, but with the up-and-down nature of pitching multiple innings as well. The Dodgers seemed satisfied with his status after Friday's work. Expect a rehab plan to be formulated soon. Kershaw still appears on pace for a return to the Dodgers in early July.

Robbie Ray SP | SD
Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Set for second rehab outing
Ray (oblique) will start for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday for the second appearance of his rehab assignment, Jack Magruder of the Sports Xchange reports.
Ray recorded seven outs during his first rehab game with High-A Visalia on Thursday, marking the first time he took the mound in a professional game since late April when he went down with a strained right oblique. During Tuesday's affair with Reno, Ray will have an increased pitch count and will try to throw at least three or four innings.

Merandy Gonzalez SP | MIA
Marlins' Merandy Gonzalez: Returns to majors
Gonzalez was recalled from Double-A Jacksonville on Friday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.
Gonzalez allowed seven runs on 18 hits over 13 innings during a stint with the Marlins earlier this season, also issuing seven walks. The 22-year-old has served as a starter with the Jumbo Shrimp, posting a 3.43 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 21 innings, but he's likely to again pitch out of the Marlins bullpen.

Freddy Peralta SP | TB
Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Likely to start against Pittsburgh on Tuesday
Peralta will likely take the mound versus the Pirates on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Peralta tossed three scoreless innings during a start with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday, which lines him up perfectly on normal rest for Tuesday's expected callup. During two starts with the Brewers this season, Peralta has allowed four earned runs off four hits and eight walks while striking out 18 in 9.2 innings. With Zach Davies currently on the DL (shoulder), Peralta is needed as a temporary fifth starter in Milwaukee's rotation, though it's highly likely that he will be sent right back down to Colorado Springs following his outing in Pittsburgh,

Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA
Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Sharp in rehab appearance
Lucchesi (hip) fired four scoreless innings while striking out six in Thursday's rehab appearance with High-A Lake Elsinore, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Lucchesi only needed 47 pitches to get through four hitless frames, even touching 96 mph according to the team's velocity chart. The strong outing bodes well for the rookie hurler, but the club may opt to give him one more rehab start in an effort to get his pitch count up. If the Padres decide to expedite that process, then next Tuesday would be the earliest he could make a start in the majors on regular rest. Lucchesi has posted a 3.23 ERA with a 3.2 K/BB ratio in nine starts this season.

Robbie Ray SP | SD
Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Struggles in rehab turn
Ray (oblique) threw 2.1 innings for High-A Visalia on Thursday, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. Ray's fastball sat around 91-93 mph.
The southpaw looked rusty, but it was to be expected, considering his last game action took place April 29. Though the organization hasn't confirmed it yet, Ray probably will need at least one more warmup outing before rejoining the Diamondbacks rotation, which would meet the team's previous hope that he'd resurface before the end of June. If he struggles in his next opportunity, however, the club may bring him along more slowly.

Rich Hill SP | KC
Dodgers' Rich Hill: Set for return after 10-strikeout tuneup
Hill (finger) threw 4.2 innings for High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday, striking out 10 batters while allowing two unearned runs on four hits across 75 pitches, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Hill is set to be activated from the disabled list to start against the Cubs on Tuesday.
The southpaw recorded a strikeout on all but four of the outs he recorded and is in line to return to the majors next week. The finger issues appear to be under control for the moment, but such injuries are prone to resurfacing with pitchers, especially those with Hill's history. Either way, his rehab start will make his shareholders more optimistic that Hill can improve his 6.20 ERA in significant fashion.

German Marquez SP | SD
Rockies' German Marquez: Coughs up two homers in loss
Marquez (4-7) was saddled with the loss Thursday after giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks across six innings against the Phillies. He struck out eight.
His command was solid, but Marquez was lit up in this road assignment, which dinged the 2.06 road ERA he held heading into this outing. He allowed a solo homer to Rhys Hoskins in the first and Nick Williams in the second. He then yielded an RBI double in the sixth and was charged with three of four tallies Philadelphia plated in the seventh. The struggling Mets will travel to Coors Field on Tuesday for Marquez's next tentative assignment, though his 7.71 home ERA doesn't offer a positive outlook.
