  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Questionable for next start

Matz was diagnosed with a slight strain of his left middle finger and it is unclear if he will be able to make his next scheduled start, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

The strain, which is near the knuckle, has rendered Matz day-to-day, and the Mets have yet to determine whether he will be able to start Sunday's game against the Cubs. New York has been ravaged by injuries and poor performances in the rotation of late, so it will likely turn to Matz if at all possible.

  • Jacob Nix SP | SD

Padres' Jacob Nix: Comes off DL

Nix (groin) was reinstated from the 7-day disabled list Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Nix will be sent to Double-A following his activation from the disabled list. He started six games for the Missions in 2017, accruing a 5.53 ERA with 22 strikeouts across 27.2 innings.

  • Scott Copeland SP | NYM

Mets' Scott Copeland: To receive promotion

Copeland will be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Wednesday's game against the Braves, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Copeland made one start at Triple-A this season, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks across six innings. His only big-league action came in 2015 with Toronto, when he posted a 6.46 ERA with six strikeouts through 15.1 innings.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Avoids structural damage

After being sent for an MRI, it was determined Wednesday that Darvish is dealing strictly with right triceps inflammation, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

This is obviously good news for the Cubs, who feared Darvish had structural damage in his throwing arm. He's expected to start a throwing program either over the weekend or early next week, although the timetable for the 31-year-old's return from the disabled list remains a bit murky.

  • Jesus Reyes SP | NYM

Reds' Jesus Reyes: Sent to Double-A

Reyes was optioned to Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Reyes will head back to the minors with Raisel Iglesias returning from the 10-day disabled list. He still has yet to make his major-league debut.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Limited by sore shoulder in Tuesday's start

Davies mentioned after his start Tuesday that he felt some lingering soreness in his shoulder thanks to a comebacker that struck him in his previous start, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Davies did not blame his struggles in two starts since returning from the disabled list on the injury, but he did say "everything hasn't felt great" his last two times out. Given that he took the ball Tuesday it would seem he will be good to go for his next scheduled start, but the shoulder soreness leaves him day-to-day for now.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Slated for MRI on Wednesday

Maeda (hip) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

After receiving visits on the mound from team trainers on two occasions Tuesday, Maeda was pulled in the second inning of his start against the Phillies due to a right hip strain. Following the contest, manager Dave Roberts called Maeda's injury "a potential DL situation," but the Dodgers will wait for the results of the MRI before deciding Maeda's fate. If Maeda is unable to make his next scheduled turn Sunday against the Rockies, the Dodgers could turn to Brock Stewart or newly recalled prospect Dennis Santana for a spot start.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Allows four earned runs in loss Tuesday

Castillo (4-5) allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits in a loss to Arizona on Tuesday, striking out six and walking three in five innings.

Castillo limited the hits, but the walks hurt him as two of the three allowed came around to score. After a very rough start to the year Castillo has put up good numbers in May, going 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA and 1.25 WHIP to go along with a 37:12 K:BB in 33.2 innings. Prior to Tuesday's start Castillo hadn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last five starts, and he'll look to get back on track in his next outing against the Rockies at home.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Earns fifth win of season Tuesday

Freeland (5-5) allowed three runs on eight hits in a win over the Giants on Tuesday, recording three strikeouts and no walks in 5.1 innings.

Freeland gave up just one run through five, and in the sixth he surrendered solo shots to Buster Posey and Evan Longoria before giving up a hit to Brandon Belt which ended his night. Freeland had thrown six consecutive quality starts coming into Tuesday's outing, and has only twice allowed more than three runs in a start. This marked the first time this year that the lefty didn't walked a batter in a game, and his K:BB now stands at 55:21 in 65.2 innings. His next start will come against the Reds in Cincinnati.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Allows five runs in loss to Cards

Davies (2-5) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks across five innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals. He struck out four.

Davies struggled mightily in the second inning, when he allowed four runs on four hits, a walk and a hit batsmen before escaping the jam. He settled down a bit before allowing a solo home run to Matt Carpenter to lead off the fourth. It was one of the poorer starts of the season for Davies, who's allowed nine earned runs across nine innings in a pair of losses since his return from the disabled list. He'll try to improve upon his 5.23 ERA in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Indians.
