  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Hopeful for next start

Teheran (back) believes he'll be fine for his next start after exiting Friday's game after three innings, Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports.

Teheran was pulled after struggling through 43 pitches (23 strikes) Friday due to upper back tightness, with his fastball topping out at only 87.5 mph. Regardless, Teheran and manager Brian Snitker indicated the right-hander would be okay for his next scheduled start, which is currently slated to be against the Mets on Wednesday.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Denied win despite strong effort Friday

Mikolas didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Pirates, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out seven.

He was in line for the win before Greg Holland and some shaky Cards defense allowed the Bucs to score three times in the ninth inning. Mikolas threw an impressive 72 of 102 pitches for strikes en route to his third straight quality start, and he'll take a 3.27 ERA into his next outing at home against the Cubs next Friday.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Delivers quality start in Friday's win

Nola (3-1) picked up the win over the Braves on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out four.

The right-hander threw 69 of 101 pitches for strikes in producing his fourth straight quality start. Nola will take a sparkling 2.58 ERA and 28:10 K:BB through 38.1 innings into his next start Wednesday in Miami.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Leaves Friday's game with back issue

Teheran exited Friday's game against the Phillies with right upper back tightness.

Teheran struggled through three innings Friday, allowing three earned runs on two walks and two hits with two strikeouts. More cause for concern is the fact that the right-hander's fastball topped out at 87.5 mph, when the pitch usual sits in the low-90s, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The severity of the injury is unknown at this point, but more information should become available as the 27-year-old is further evaluated.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Exits Friday's game

Anderson exited in the second inning of Friday's game against the Marlins with an apparent side injury, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Anderson showed some discomfort while pitching in the second inning and attempted to continue before ultimately being removed. The 28-year-old appeared to be favoring his left side as he left the game, but the specifics of the injury currently remain unclear.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Tabbed for Saturday's start

Buehler will start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Giants, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

No corresponding move will need to be made, as Buehler will simply be named the 26th man for the doubleheader. The top pitching prospect threw five scoreless innings in his season debut, so he'll look to keep the good times rolling against San Francisco starter Chris Stratton on Saturday.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Fans eight in quality start

Darvish (0-2) did not factor in the decision in Friday's win over the Brewers, but recorded eight strikeouts and allowed one unearned run on three hits and two walks over six innings.

Darvish was in line for his first victory of the season when he exited, but the Brewers tied the game in the seventh, only for the Cubs to take the lead back for good in the bottom of the inning. The 31-year-old has been rocky to start the season (5.26 ERA and 1.44 WHIP), but has allowed only two runs (one earned) and five hits in his two starts (12 innings) against Milwaukee thus far. Darvish is next slated to take the mound Wednesday against the Rockies at Wrigley Field.

  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Set for long-relief role

Thompson will be used as a reliever during his time in the majors, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

There were some rumblings that Thompson could start Tuesday in Miami, but the Phillies squashed those notions. He instead seems to be destined for long relief, though some spot starts down the line aren't out of the question. No word has come forth as to who will fill in to start Tuesday's tilt.

  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Back in big leagues

Thompson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.

Thompson is up to replace the injured Ben Lively (back). He'll presumably be called upon to make Lively's scheduled start Tuesday in Miami, though no announcement has been made yet on that front. A good performance could see Thompson stick in the rotation, at least until Jerad Eickhoff returns from his lat injury in late May, as Lively's 6.85 ERA so far this season set the bar quite low. With a 4.97 career ERA and a 5.87 career FIP, though, Thompson is hardly a lock to steal Lively's place and isn't likely to do much with the opportunity even if given an unexpected number of starts.

  • Ben Lively SP | CLE

Phillies' Ben Lively: Heads to disabled list

Lively was placed on the disabled list with a lower-back strain Friday.

Lively was lit up for seven runs in 2.1 innings against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, and it seems as though his back may have been to blame. He'll miss at least one turn in the rotation. Jake Thompson was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his place on the roster.
