  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Roughed up in Coors

Darvish (0-2) allowed five earned runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four across 4.2 innings to take the loss Saturday against the Rockies.

Darvish didn't allow a home run but was inefficient, falling behind in the count to 12 of the 23 batters that came to the plate Saturday. The end result was that he was pulled after 4.2 innings having thrown 98 pitches. Inefficiency has been a major problem for him to begin the season as he has failed to work at least five innings in three of his four starts and has a 5.09 BB/9. This is reasonable cause for concern, but Darvish's track record is long enough that owners shouldn't panic about his early-season struggles just yet.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Stifles Mets in Saturday's no-decision

Teheran (1-1) had to settle for a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Mets, dealing seven scoreless innings while scattering four hits and a walk and striking out six.

The Mets only got two runners into scoring position against Teheran on the night, as he threw 61 of 98 pitches for strikes and generated 13 swinging strikes. After a rocky start to the season, the right-hander has now delivered three straight quality starts to lower his ERA to 4.00. He'll next take the mound Thursday in Cincinnati.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Another brilliant no-decision Saturday

DeGrom (2-0) struck out ten in a no-decision against the Braves on Saturday. He gave up four hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings.

He and Julio Teheran traded goose eggs for seven innings, but deGrom appeared to be in line for the win when the Mets struck for three runs in the top of the eighth, only for AJ Ramos and Jeurys Familia to let things unravel. DeGrom now has an elite 40:8 K:BB through 32 innings, and he'll take a 2.53 ERA into his next start Thursday in St. Louis.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Fans nine in win Saturday

Nola (2-1) threw seven innings Saturday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine en route to the win.

The young right-hander exhibited excellent control in this one, as he threw 75 of his 103 pitches for strikes and did not walk a batter. Nola was tagged for a leadoff home run by Sean Rodriguez, but dominated the rest of the way, allowing no extra-base hits after the first inning. Nola now has a 2.30 ERA on the season and will look to improve it further in his next start Friday against the Braves.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Fans seven in no-decision

Martinez pitched six scoreless innings Saturday against the Reds, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out seven. He didn't factor into the decision.

The Reds managed to tie the ballgame immediately after Martinez left the game, squandering what was a strong performance from the St. Louis starter. He threw nearly two-thirds of his pitches for strikes, and he managed to induce seven groundouts to just one flyout. This outing lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.42 mark, which he'll look to improve further in his next scheduled start Friday in Pittsburgh.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Mets' Seth Lugo: Provides scoreless relief appearance Friday

Lugo tossed two scoreless innings in Friday's extra-inning win over the Braves, walking two batters and striking out one.

The right-hander had been struggling recently, giving up runs in three straight appearances, but Lugo righted the ship Friday. He's settling in as a long man in the Mets' bullpen, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB through 11 innings over seven appearances, and with Jason Vargas (hand) on track to join the staff next weekend, Lugo's chances of working his way into the rotation at some point this season will get a little fainter.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Gets win with quality start

Wacha (3-1) pitched 6.2 strong innings in Friday's win over the Reds, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Wacha had a solid outing Friday, earning his first quality start of the season. All six hits allowed were singles and the only run scored came via sacrifice fly. Through four starts, Wacha has a 4.22 ERA and 1.45 WHIP, along with 15 strikeouts and 11 walks in 21.1 innings. Next week provides him a home start against the Mets.

  • Reds' Brandon Finnegan: Allows four runs in loss

Finnegan (0-2) took the loss Friday against the Cardinals, giving up four runs on five hits in three innings while striking out two and walking four.

Finnegan was done in by a couple of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly, putting the score at 4-0 through two. The walks didn't help Finnegan's cause, and by the end of the third he was already at 76 pitches. Through two starts, the young lefty has allowed nine runs on 11 hits in 7.1 innings. That kind of run allowance just can't fly on a Reds team that isn't scoring very much to start the season (currently the club is tied with Kansas City for last in the majors in runs scored). Next up will be a home start against the Braves.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Provides quality start Friday

Syndergaard (2-0) didn't factor into the decision in Friday's extra-inning win over the Braves, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out six.

The right-hander produced his second quality start of the season, firing 70 of 103 pitches for strikes. Syndergaard's 3.29 ERA through 27.1 innings doesn't exactly look dominant, but his 39:5 K:BB is outstanding and he's tied with Justin Verlander for fourth in the majors in strikeouts. He'll next take the mound Thursday in St. Louis.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Dealt third loss of season

Kershaw (1-3) gave up four earned runs on nine hits over seven innings in Friday's loss to the Nationals, striking out four and walking none.

Kershaw settled down after giving up a pair of first-inning runs, but he ended up on the short end of his heavyweight bout against Max Scherzer after giving up a run apiece in the sixth and seventh innings. Kershaw only has one double-digit strikeout game in his first five starts of the year -- uncharacteristic by his lofty standards -- and his 1-3 record also certainly looks strange next to his name. However, he'll still take a 2.45 ERA and sterling 0.97 WHIP into his start against the Giants next Friday.
