  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Recalled from Triple-A

Stripling was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma on Friday.

Stripling was sent down just eight days ago after allowing seven runs over two consecutive outings. With Chris Hatcher going on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, though, the Dodgers need a fresh arm in their bullpen. Stripling had a 2.51 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over his first 32.1 innings before the meltdown, and the Dodgers will hope his short time in the minors will be enough for him to find that form again.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: To undergo shoulder surgery

Urias will undergo left anterior capsule surgery on his pitching shoulder on Tuesday.

Anterior capsule surgery is one of the most difficult arm surgeries for a pitcher to recover from. Pitchers who have required the procedure in the past have required as many as 18 months to fully recover. Even in the best-case scenario, Urias won't be returning to the mound until the summer of 2018, and it's possible he will miss all of next season.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Scratched from Sunday's start

Walker will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Phillies, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Randall Delgado is now slated to toe the rubber opposite Jeremy Hellickson. Manager Torey Lovullo said the decision to scratch Walker has nothing to do with an injury; rather, the team simply wants to give Walker a bit of a break. Walker has made two starts since returning from a blister issue, allowing four runs while striking out 14 over 11 innings. He totaled 149.1 innings between Triple-A and the majors last season.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Could start throwing over weekend

Manager Joe Maddon said it's possible Hendricks (hand) could play catch over the weekend, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

This would be a big step for Hendricks, who has been shut down from throwing for the last week after he suffered a setback during a side session. A clearer timetable for his return should become available once he is able to resume his throwing program, though a return before the All Star break remains uncertain.

  • Reds' Brandon Finnegan: Option to start Monday

Manager Bryan Price said Finnegan (shoulder) is an option to make start Monday's game against the Cardinals, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

With Amir Garrett heading back to Triple-A on Friday, Finnegan could return from the disabled list to take his next turn in the rotation. The 24-year-old tossed five innings for Triple-A Louisville in his third rehab start, so it appears he'll be ready to go in the near future even if he doesn't start Monday's contest.

  • Luis Castillo SP | CHW

Reds' Luis Castillo: Recalled from Double-A to start Friday

Castillo was recalled from Double-A Pensacola to start Friday's game against the Nationals.

As expected, Castillo will step in to fill the rotational void left when the Reds designated Asher Wojciechowski for assignment Sunday. Although Castillo has impressed with Pensacola this season, compiling a 2.58 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 81:13 K:BB over 80.1 innings (14 starts), he faces one of the better offenses in baseball in his major-league debut, so it wouldn't be very wise to expect much of the 24-year-old. Southpaw Amir Garrett was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Mets' Tommy Milone: Moves to 60-day DL

Milone (knee) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Michael Baron of SportsNet New York reports.

The 30-year-old went on the DL in late May with a sprained left knee and looks to have made little headway in his recovery. Milone's move to the 60-day DL opens a place on the 40-man roster for right-hander Chasen Bradford as the Mets continue their search for pitching options.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Works out of bullpen Thursday

Anderson (knee) tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. He gave up one hit and one walk and struck out three batters.

Anderson was activated from the disabled list prior to the series finale following a successful rehab outing June 18, but it looks like he'll have to settle for bullpen duty for the time being. The left-hander's replacement in the rotation, Jeff Hoffman, had allowed three or fewer runs in five starts before getting torched by the Diamondbacks for nine runs in 3.2 innings Wednesday, but Hoffman should get at least one more opportunity to right the ship before Rockies manager Bud Black would consider going back to Anderson as the club's fifth starter. As he demonstrated Thursday, Anderson offers more strikeout upside than most of the Rockies' other starting options, but he's had a difficult time keeping the ball in the yard, which has kept his ERA at a bloated 5.75 on the season.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Opting out this winter?

Cueto is expected to opt out of his contract following the end of this season, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports Network reports.

Heyman describes the situation as, "it would probably take an injury or major slump for Cueto not to opt out." In that case, it seems pretty clear that the 31-year-old will opt out of the six-year, $130 million contract he signed with the Giants in December of 2015. With four years and $84 million left on his deal at the conclusion of this year, Cueto believes that he can find a better deal elsewhere. The right-hander is open to an extension with the Giants but it is apparent that the team does not favor that outcome. This season, Cueto has posted a 4.42 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP to go along with 90 strikeouts in 15 starts for San Francisco, totaling a 5-7 record.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Has ditched slider this season

Matz is trying to avoid using his slider this season in an effort to stay healthy, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

He wants to avoid strain on his left elbow by ditching an offering that requires plenty of it -- by some studies, the slider is the pitch most responsible for those types of issues, as noted by Ackert. Matz has relied on his fastballs (four- and two-seam/sinker), changeup and curveball on his way to a 3.60 ERA in his first three starts of the year. The southpaw's extensive injury history, which includes Tommy John surgery and a bone spur in his pitching elbow that was removed this past winter, is causing him to take new precautions. Matz gutted through a messy outing Thursday to spin a quality start. He should remain an option for many mixed-league fantasy lineups, though it'd help if he can regain the strikeout promise he's shown in previous years -- he has only 14 in 20 innings so far in 2017.
