  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Tosses seven strong frames in Wednesday's win

Teheran (6-4) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three over seven innings in Wednesday's 13-2 rout of the Nationals.

He made only one real mistake, which Brian Goodwin deposited into the seats for a two-run homer, but otherwise Teheran was sharp in recording his fifth quality start in his last seven outings. Blowups in the other two starts have left the right-hander with an unsightly 4.86 ERA on the year, but he'll try to shave that down a little further Tuesday at home against the Giants.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Allows three home runs in loss

Cueto (5-6) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits and three walks with five strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to the Royals.

Cueto was victimized by the long ball three times between the second and third innings, bringing his season total to 16. His 1.7 HR/9 is the highest of his career and, not surprisingly, Cueto's ERA has followed his HR/9 rate. Cueto will look to get things straightened out when he takes on the Braves on Monday.

  • Josh Smoker SP | PIT

Mets' Josh Smoker: Gets shoulder strain following 81-pitch outing

Smoker was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

This comes on the heels of Smoker throwing a career-high 81 pitches in Tuesday's blowout (for reference, his previous career high was 48 offerings). Nothing has been explicitly said, but it's pretty likely that the high pitch count had something to do with the injury. It's unclear how long this ailment will sideline him, but Rafael Montero will fill his spot in the bullpen until he's back in commission.

  • Kyle Hendricks SP | LAA

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Slated for another MRI

Hendricks (hand) will undergo an MRI on Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

After experiencing a setback in his most recent side session, the right-hander will head in for further testing to get to the root of his problem. Hendricks' plan moving forward is expected to be revealed Friday, which should shed light on whether this is a short-term setback or a problem with long-term ramifications.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Sidelined by sore shoulder

Urias was placed on the 7-day disabled list at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday with left shoulder discomfort, Jacob Unruh of The Oklahoman reports.

No word has come forth as to how the injury happened, but those within the organization don't believe Urias is dealing with anything serious. Urias will miss at least one start with Oklahoma City, although more information on his return date should come forth after he gets back to throwing at his regular pace.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Reinstated from DL ahead of Wednesday's start

Walker (finger) was activated from the disabled list Wednesday.

As anticipated, Walker will return to action in order to start Wednesday's contest with the Tigers. The right-hander will start opposite Detroit right-hander Jordan Zimmermann in an effort to continue his strong debut season in Arizona. To make room for him on the active roster, Silvino Bracho was sent back to Triple-A Reno.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Rehab start on tap for Sunday

Anderson (knee) is expected to make his first rehab start Sunday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Anderson fired 52 pitches in a simulated game Tuesday at PNC Park and seemed to be almost completely healthy. "I didn't even think about my knee when I was pitching," the southpaw commented. Despite the vote of confidence regarding his health, manager Bud Black said that his method of setting the rotation once Anderson and Jon Gray (foot) return from the DL will be based off performance. This season, Anderson is arguably having the worst season of the bunch, sporting a 5.85 ERA and 2.0 HR/9 on the season, which could leave him on the outside of the rotation looking in upon his activation.

  • Marlins' Braxton Garrett: Second opinion on tap

Garrett (elbow) will receive a second opinion on his ailing elbow from Dr. James Andrews, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

This certainly isn't great news for the top pitching prospect given the ominous outlooks other players get when they go in for second opinions. Tommy John surgery is still on the table, although more details about the route he selects to fix his elbow problem should come forth once Garrett gets a chance to be examined by Dr. Andrews.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Collects ninth win Tuesday

Kershaw (9-2) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings in Tuesday's 7-5 win over Cleveland.

He very nearly had to settle for a no-decision, but Cody Bellinger's eighth-inning homer off Andrew Miller put the Dodgers in the lead for good while Kershaw was still the pitcher of record. The dominant lefty will take a 2.23 ERA and 0.92 WHIP into his next start Sunday on the road against the Reds.

  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Undone by defense Tuesday

Greinke (8-3) gave up five unearned runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings but took a no-decision in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Tigers. He struck out four.

He was cruising through five innings, but a Chris Owings throwing error extended the sixth and eventually led to six Detroit runs, costing Greinke a shot at a win even if his ERA didn't suffer the consequences. The veteran right-hander has only delivered one quality start in his last four trips to the mound, and his run of short outings could continue Tuesday at Coors Field.
