Aaron Ashby SP | MIL
Brewers' Aaron Ashby: Opens season on IL
The Brewers placed Ashby (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Ashby sustained a right oblique strain March 3 and wasn't able to bounce back from the injury as quickly as the Brewers had hoped, which will result in him opening the season on the shelf. The southpaw wasn't expected to resume his throwing program until this week, and since he's likely to be stretched out as a starter, he could be a month or longer away from being ready to return from the IL. Ashby has a minor-league option remaining, so the Brewers could send him to Triple-A Nashville if the big club doesn't have a spot for him in the rotation by the time he's activated.

Tobias Myers RP | NYM
Brewers' Tobias Myers: Moves to IL
The Brewers placed Myers (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Per MLB.com, Myers has resumed a throwing program and completed a bullpen session earlier this week since sustaining a left oblique strain in his final Cactus League start March 15. Before he's activated from the IL, Myers will likely need to complete a few more side sessions, face hitters in live batting practice and then embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Brewers are hopeful that the right-hander will be ready to make his season debut around mid-April.

Brandon Woodruff SP | MIL
Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Placed on 15-day injured list
The Brewers placed Woodruff (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Woodruff's progression from shoulder surgery has gone well lately, as he saw some game action in spring training and could be ready for a rehab assignment in the not-too-distant future. The Brewers haven't provided a timetable for when the right-hander will be ready to return from the IL for his 2025 debut.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Brewers' Jose Quintana: Sent to minors
The Brewers optioned Quintana to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
Quintana agreed to be optioned to the minors so that he could continue to get stretched out after he was unsigned throughout the offseason before reaching a one-year deal with Milwaukee on March 5. The veteran southpaw built up to three innings and 37 pitches in his final Cactus League outing March 22, so he may need just a couple of starts in the minors before the Brewers deem him ready to join the big-league rotation.

Chad Patrick P | MIL
Brewers' Chad Patrick: Recalled ahead of opener
The Brewers recalled Patrick from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
Patrick was previously optioned to Nashville on March 9, but he'll wind up being included on the Brewers' Opening Day roster due to Tobias Myers (oblique) beginning the season on the injured list and Jose Quintana needing more time to ramp up before making his Milwaukee debut. The Brewers are carrying just three designated starting pitchers on their roster, and though Patrick will be available out of the bullpen for the opening series in New York, he could end up making a start or serving as a bulk reliever during next week's series versus the Royals.

Jared Jones SP | PIT
Pirates' Jared Jones: Officially placed on injured list
The Pirates placed Jones (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Jones has damage to the UCL in his right elbow but will attempt to treat the injury with rest and rehab rather than surgery. He will be shut down from throwing for six weeks before ramping back up. The righty will be a candidate to be shifted to the 60-day injured list when/if the Pirates need a roster spot, as it's unlikely he'll be back before June.

Ryan Weathers SP | NYY
Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Officially placed on injured list
The Marlins placed Weathers (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a left flexor muscle strain.
Weathers is expected to be shelved for at least the first month or so of the season with the injury. According to MLB.com, Weathers has resumed gripping exercises with the baseball, but he's not yet doing any throwing. With Weathers and Edward Cabrera (blister) on the shelf, the Marlins have included Connor Gillispie and Valente Bellozo in their Opening Day rotation.

Edward Cabrera SP | CHC
Marlins' Edward Cabrera: Officially goes on IL
The Marlins placed Cabrera (finger) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Cabrera threw a simulated game Wednesday and hopes to be ready to rejoin the Miami rotation by mid-April as he recovers from a blister on his right middle finger. Connor Gillispie and Valente Bellozo will fill rotation spots to begin the season while Cabrera and Ryan Weathers (forearm) are on the shelf.
