Gallen (5-4) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to take the loss versus the Marlins on Friday.

Gallen produced his longest outing of the season and his fourth straight quality start, but the Diamondbacks' offense couldn't get anything going as Miami starter Braxton Garrett tossed a shutout. Gallen has permitted more than three runs just once in 10 starts this season, pitching to a 3.12 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60:15 K:BB over 57.2 innings. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers.

Sanchez did not factor into the decision Friday against the Rockies, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out two.

Despite allowing eight baserunners, Sanchez managed to hold the Rockies offense in check with a 52.5 percent groundball rate. Surprisingly, the Phillies lefty collected only two strikeouts despite generating 11 whiffs in his 83 total pitches. Sanchez has thrown 54.1 innings this season, producing a 3.15 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 49:19 K:BB. The 27-year-old is currently scheduled to face the Giants on the road in his next start.

Flexen yielded four runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out two as the White Sox fell to the Orioles.

Flexen gave up just one run through four innings before the Orioles tagged him for three runs in the fifth. After posting a 1.61 ERA over a 22.1-inning span, he's been hit with 14 runs over his last three outings, driving his ERA from 4.29 up to 5.69. Flexen has allowed at least four runs on four occasions this season. His next outing is lined up to come at home against Toronto.

Burnes allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out six during the Orioles' win over the White Sox.

Burnes fired four shutout frames before the White Sox finally broke through with a three-run fifth inning. He forced 14 whiffs and has produced double-digit swinging strikes in eight of his 11 starts this season. The 29-year-old righty has allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of those 11 outings, resulting in an impressive 2.60 ERA through 65.2 innings. Burnes will take a 66:17 K:BB into his next outing, which is lined up to come at home against Boston.

Paxton allowed five runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during the Dodgers' loss to the Reds.

Paxton got off to a rough start by yielding a three-run shot to Spencer Steer in the first inning. The Reds's bats then went quiet until a six-run fifth inning. Paxton was charged with two of those as he gave up a season-high five runs during his shortest outing of the year. The veteran southpaw saw his ERA jump from 2.84 to 3.49 through 49 frames. Paxton is still 5-0 despite some recent struggles (4.13 ERA over his last five starts). His next outing is projected to come on the road against the Mets next week.

Ashcraft (4-3) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out three and earning a win over the Dodgers.

It wasn't a very sharp outing, but Cincinnati's offense did enough to lift Ashcraft to a victory. Most of the damage came during a four-run second inning before Will Smith belted a solo shot in the fifth. Ashcraft has allowed at least three runs while going fewer than six innings in four straight starts, resulting in a 6.52 ERA during that span. His season ERA is up to 4.67 with a 43:19 K:BB through 10 starts. He's currently in line for a road start against the Cubs next week.

Maeda (2-1) earned the win Friday over the Blue Jays, allowing four hits over five scoreless innings. He struck out one.

It was a strong effort from Maeda, who last pitched May 7 before going on the IL with an illness -- he was tagged for seven runs in just two innings in that start. The 36-year-old Maeda lowered his ERA to 5.80 with a 1.32 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB over eight starts (35.2 innings) this season. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Red Sox in his next outing.

Atlanta optioned Vines to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Vines was recalled from Triple-A on Monday to give Atlanta additional bullpen depth, and he will now head back to the minors after allowing six earned runs in three innings during Friday's loss to the Pirates. The 26-year-old righty owns a 7.82 ERA through 12.2 big-league innings but could still provide depth for the big-league staff later in the year.

Kirby (4-5) took the loss Friday against the Nationals, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out three.

Kirby was hurt by the home-run ball Friday, with all five runs coming on a pair of long balls. The 26-year-old Kirby's hit a rough patch recently, allowing four or more runs in three of his last four outings. His ERA is up to 4.33 despite a solid 1.03 WHIP and 57:6 K:BB over 11 starts (62.1 innings). Kirby will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently lined up for next week at home against the Astros.

Mikolas and the Cardinals won't play the Cubs on Friday due to inclement weather, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The Cubs and Cardinals will make up Friday's game as part of a doubleheader July 13. Meanwhile, Mikolas' next start will be pushed back to Saturday, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.
