Giants manager Bob Melvin said Monday that Snell (thigh) will throw a three-inning live batting practice session Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Snell was cleared to face hitters after a bullpen session Saturday went off without a hitch. The Giants will wait to see how the lefty responds to Tuesday's session before determining the next steps, but Snell is trending in a positive direction. Snell hasn't pitched in more than two weeks because of a Grade 2 left adductor strain.

The Twins promoted Matthews from High-A Cedar Rapids to Double-A Wichita on Monday.

After Matthews finished the 2023 season at Cedar Rapids and produced a 4.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 59:10 K:BB in 66.2 innings with the affiliate, the Twins opted to have him return to the Midwest League to begin the 2024 campaign. He quickly proved to be worthy of a promotion, as he submitted a 1.59 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 28:3 K:BB in 22.2 innings over his first four starts of the season with Cedar Rapids.

The Giants designated Jefferies for assignment Monday.

He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Mason Black, who was called up from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of his scheduled start Monday versus the Phillies. Jefferies has made two appearances (one start) for the Giants this season, giving up nine earned runs on 14 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings.

The Brewers could call up Gasser from Triple-A Nashville later this week to make his MLB debut, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Brewers will likely have a temporary opening in their rotation in the near future with Freddy Peralta facing a five-game suspension, and manager Pat Murphy said that Gasser "would be a strong candidate" to fill the spot. Gasser started for Nashville on Sunday, which would line him up to start Friday against the Cardinals if the Brewers elect to call him up. Gasser has produced a 5.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB in 12 innings through his first three starts with Nashville.

Senzatela (elbow) has been throwing from 120 feet, MLB.com reports.

It's expected that Senzatela won't return to the field until 2025, but his recovery has gone well to this point. He's hoping to make rehab appearances at some point late in the summer, intending to be at full strength to begin the new campaign.

General manager Ben Cherington said Sunday he expects Gonzales (forearm) to pitch again this season, MLB.com reports.

Gonzales received a second opinion during the final week of April. The Pirates haven't disclosed the exact diagnosis, but Cherington said "conservative treatment" is currently the right path for Gonzales. He has yet to begin throwing and will likely be sidelined for at least the first half of the campaign.

Garcia (elbow) completed his most recent bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Garcia was cleared to resume throwing off a mound in the middle of April and has remained at the same stage of his recovery program for three weeks. The Astros haven't indicated that Garcia has experienced any setbacks in his recovery from his May 19, 2023 Tommy John surgery, so the right-hander could soon be cleared to face hitters in live batting practice. Houston is hopeful to get Garcia back from the 60-day injured list at some point around the middle of the season.

Fried (2-1) took the loss Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over seven innings.

Fried quickly surrendered a two-run homer to Shohei Ohtani in the opening frame. He was able to settle in thereafter, blanking the Dodgers over the next four innings before Teoscar Hernandez got a hold of one in the sixth to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Sunday was Fried's first outing this year giving up multiple home runs, but he's also gone at least six innings in three straight while striking out at least six in all three appearances. The 30-year-old owns a 4.23 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB in 38.1 innings thus far and lines up to face the Mets in his next start.

Kirby (knee) is listed as the Mariners' probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Twins at Target Field.

In his most recent start Friday against the Astros, Kirby contended with a right knee issue and was lifted after just 88 pitches. Kirby was sent in for an MRI on Saturday, and though the Mariners aren't disclosing the results of his imaging, neither the pitcher nor manager Scott Servais believe the knee issue is anything concerning, per MLB.com. The Mariners' tune could change if Kirby's knee is still bothering him following a between-starts bullpen session, but for now, fantasy managers should plan on the right-hander being available to start Wednesday without restrictions.

Ragans (calf) is listed as the Royals' probable starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Brewers in Kansas City.

Ragans experienced cramping in his left calf in his most recent start this past Tuesday against the Blue Jays, but he had already tossed 6.2 innings (105 pitches) and likely wouldn't have stayed in the game any longer even if he wasn't experiencing any discomfort. The Royals didn't suggest that Ragans required any follow-up testing, so he's not expected to face any restrictions as he takes the hill Monday for his eighth start of the season. Ragans tentatively lines up for a two-start week, with his second outing expected to come Saturday against the Angels.
