Messick will draw the start on the mound for the Guardians' series finale against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Messick is expected to be called up from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, and manager Stephen Vogt confirmed that the left-hander will make his major-league debut as a starter. Messick has compiled a 3.47 ERA over 98.2 innings in 20 starts with Columbus this season, and he's posted an even better 2.93 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 30.2 frames in his last five outings.

The Cubs reinstated Taillon (calf) from the 15-day injured list to start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

The right-hander was poised to return Monday before Game 2 of that doubleheader was postponed by a day, and he's now officially back on the active roster to make his first MLB start since June 29. Taillon surrendered 15 runs while losing his last three starts before landing on the injured list, but prior to that stretch he had a 3.48 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 65:16 K:BB over 82.2 innings this year. The 33-year-old threw 84 pitches over 5.1 frames in his final rehab outing, so he shouldn't have significant workload limitations.

Manager Mike Shildt said that Sears will be recalled from Triple-A El Paso to start Wednesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander was demoted Aug. 8 after surrendering five earned runs over five innings in his debut outing with the Padres, but he'll return to the big leagues for another look Wednesday. Prior to that poor appearance, Sears had a 4.95 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB across 111 innings with the Athletics this season.

Garcia (elbow) will make a rehab start with Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The right-hander threw 77 pitches over 4.2 frames during his seventh rehab outing last week, and he'll take the mound again Tuesday for what could be the final appearance of his rehab assignment. Garcia hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023 due to Tommy John surgery and some recovery setbacks.

GM Chris Young said the Rangers will skip deGrom's scheduled start Wednesday against the Royals due to right shoulder fatigue, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

The 37-year-old already returned to Texas to be evaluated and was cleared of any structural issues, but the Rangers will still manage his workload with deGrom's 140.1 innings this season being the first time he's cracked 100 frames since 2019. Assuming there's no further issues, the right-hander's next turn through the rotation tentatively lines up for Monday versus the Angels.

The Marlins placed Quantrill on outright waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Given his $3.5 million salary, Quantrill is a good bet to clear waivers. The Marlins would have the ability to retain him at that point, although it's likelier the veteran right-hander will be cut loose. Quantrill has posted a 5.50 ERA and 82:30 K:BB over 109.2 innings this season and an 11.25 ERA in three starts this month.

Lodolo (finger) tossed a bullpen session Monday and is scheduled to throw off a mound again Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Though Lodolo is making good progress in his recovery from the left index finger blister that forced him to the injured list Aug. 5, the southpaw isn't on track to be activated when first eligible later this week. The Reds will likely wait until Lodolo completes his bullpen session Wednesday before determining his next steps, but manager Terry Francona said that the 27-year-old hasn't been ruled out from making a start during the team's road series versus the Dodgers that begins next Monday. Nick Martinez would be in line for another turn through the rotation if Lodolo isn't ready to go for the Dodgers series.

Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that McCullers (finger) will rejoin the rotation Friday in Baltimore, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Coming back from a blister, McCullers permitted just one run while fanning five batters over five innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Sugar Land last Friday. The right-hander threw 80 pitches in that outing, so he shouldn't have any major workload limitations against the Orioles.

Gray (elbow) threw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

It's the first time Gray has faced hitters since he underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in July 2024. Gray could make a late-season return to the Nationals' active roster, but the primary goal will be to have him ready to go for the 2026 campaign.

The Mariners activated Miller (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Miller is set to make his return to the Mariners' rotation Tuesday with a start on the road in Philadelphia. The right-hander has been sidelined for more than two months with inflammation in his pitching elbow. Miller threw 76 pitches in his final rehab start, so he will likely be slightly limited from a workload perspective versus the Phillies.
