Astros' Carlos Correa: Gets breather for day game

Correa is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Marlins.

With Wednesday's game kicking off at 12:10 pm ET, Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided it was an optimal time to give the star shortstop a break, even with the team heading into an off day Thursday. After a slow start to the season, Correa has been dialed in throughout May, submitting a 1.120 OPS while scoring 16 runs and driving in 15. Marwin Gonzalez will spell Correa in the field in the series finale.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Two hits in Tuesday's loss

Anderson (personal) returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing four games and went 2-for-4 with a home run in a 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Angels.

Anderson was primed to be the hero when his third homer of the season in the top of 11th gave the White Sox the lead in extras, but it wasn't meant to be. Prior to being away from the team over the weekend, Anderson had been in and out of the lineup and dropped from the top of the batting order to the seven-hole. Through it all, the struggling young shortstop has hit in five straight contests with multiple hits in three of them. There are still holes in his plate approach, but there are hopeful signs. During Anderson's five-game hit streak, which has pushed his average to .230, he's struck out just three times in 21 at-bats, well below his 23.5 strikeout percentage for the season.

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Anderson (personal) is back in action Tuesday against the Angels, batting seventh and playing shortstop.

Anderson was initially expected to return to the lineup Monday after missing the weekend series to attend a funeral, but he'll get back with the team just a day later. He'll resume his normal spot in the order and should be a mainstay in the lineup barring any extraneous circumstances.

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Absent from lineup Monday

Anderson (personal) is not in the lineup Monday against the Angels.

Anderson was expected to be back with the team for the start of this series in Anaheim, but it seems like his personal leave is taking a bit longer than initially expected. He could be back in the lineup Tuesday, but in the meantime, Tyler Saladino will pick up another start at shortstop.

  • Angels' Cliff Pennington: Heads to bench Saturday

Pennington is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Danny Espinosa will take over at second base against lefty Daniel Norris for the third game of the Angels' series against Detroit. Pennington collected three hits in Friday's contest and is hitting .306 against righties this season.

  • Angels' Cliff Pennington: Seeing more playing time

Pennington received another start at second base Thursday, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in a 7-1 loss to Detroit.

The veteran infielder has now started three of the Angels' last four games in place of the struggling Danny Espinosa. It is unclear whether manager Mike Scioscia has officially made a change to his lineup, or if he is just giving his struggling second baseman a mental break. Either way, Pennington's lack of power (zero extra-base hits in 41 plate appearances) keeps him out of the conversation in standard formats, but he could help some deep-league owners as a short-term middle infielder.

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Attending friend's funeral over weekend

Anderson was scheduled to leave the White Sox on Friday morning to attend the funeral of a close friend over the weekend, and he'll rejoin them Monday for their road series against the Angels, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Anderson's friend Branden Moss, who was the godfather of Anderson's daughter, was shot and killed Sunday near the University of Alabama while reportedly trying to help an assault victim outside of a bar. It's uncertain if the White Sox will put him on the bereavement list, which per the rules applies to a "death or serious illness in [the player's] family." After the services, Anderson will meet up with Chicago for the start of their stint in Anaheim.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Adds to hot streak with two-run bomb

Correa went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run during Thursday's win over the Yankees.

Correa is scorching hot and currently sports a .353/.413/.676 slash line with 14 runs, 10 doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI through his past 17 games. The 22-year-old shortstop is in line to post a career-best fantasy showing, and he offers a reliable floor hitting in the heart of a potent lineup.

Astros' Carlos Correa: Doubles up on doubles in Wednesday's win

Correa went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Atlanta.

Correa, whose three-run homer was the winning hit Tuesday, provided the deciding knock for the second straight game with a two-run double in the fifth inning. He's been on an extra-base-hit roll of late -- Wednesday's two-baggers give him 10 for the season, all coming in the last 14 games, and he's slugging .585 during that stretch.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Mashing with Lansing

Bichette, 19, is hitting .365/.450/.594 with three home runs and three steals (on four attempts) in 111 plate appearances with Low-A Lansing.

Bichette has yet to post a BABIP below .440 in 46 games as a pro, so it's difficult to get a read on what kind of batting average we can expect from him as he moves up the ladder. That said, it's pretty difficult to find a flaw in his game at the moment, as his 12.6 percent walk rate and 18.9 percent strikeout rate are both elite for a player with his offensive tools.
