The Diamondbacks optioned Alexander to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Luis Guillorme, who was signed Tuesday. Alexander's latest stint in the majors lasted less than a week and he went hitless in 10 plate appearances.

Newman started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 9-6 win over Miami.

Newman filled in at second base for the injured Ketel Marte (ankle), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Newman, who had seen a spike in playing time while Marte was day-to-day for the previous 10 days, should be the primary second baseman while Marte is unavailable.

Triple-A Iowa reinstated Vazquez (undisclosed) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Vazquez hadn't seen any action since July 6 due to an unspecified injury prior to being activated. He's looked sharp at the dish in four games since, going 5-for-14 with three home runs.

Ahmed was designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Ahmed has seen his playing time dwindle over the last few weeks, totaling only 24 at-bats so far in August. Following the return of Tommy Edman (wrist) and Max Muncy (oblique) from the injured list Monday, the club has elected to send the veteran shortstop to the waiver wire.

Padres manager Mike Shildt said Monday that an MRI on Kim's right shoulder came back somewhat favorable, but the results are still being evaluated and it's possible he could undergo additional imaging, Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Kim was removed from Sunday's game versus the Rockies after jamming his right shoulder while diving back into first base on a pickoff attempt. He's not playing Monday against the Twins and the Padres are still weighing a potential stint on the injured list. Tyler Wade is handling shortstop Monday and could be in line for regular reps there if Kim needs to miss additional time.

Rojas went 3-for-4 with an RBI in a 2-1 victory versus the Cardinals on Sunday.

Rojas notched one of two three-hit performances for Los Angeles, and his fifth-inning RBI single provided what turned out to be the winning run for the team. The veteran shortstop has a 10-game hitting streak going during which he's slashing .371/.405/.429 with five RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Though his fantasy appeal is limited by a lack of power, Rojas has been a steady bat for Los Angeles throughout the year, as he's hitting .286 through 244 plate appearances while adding excellent defense.

Perdomo batted leadoff and went 2-for-5 with a walk in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to Tampa Bay.

Perdomo was moved into the leadoff spot for the third time in the last seven games. Sunday's start was against a right-hander while the previous two were against lefties. Corbin Carroll, who has been the primary leadoff batter against right-handers, slotted at second in the order. The batting order adjustments appear to be related to the ongoing ankle issues that Ketel Marte is experiencing. He aggravated the injury Sunday during a pinch hitting appearance after returning Saturday as a DH.

Newman remained at second base in place of Ketel Marte, who was held out of the starting lineup then aggravated an ankle injury during a pinch hitting appearance. Marte had returned to the lineup as the DH for Saturday's contest with the intent to bring him back slowly. If the Diamondbacks choose to place Marte on the 10-day injured list, Newman would be part of the crew that helps fill the void at second base. Blaze Alexander is also an option.

Abrams went 2-for-4 with a walk and three stolen bases in Sunday's win against the Phillies.

Abrams wreaked havoc on the basepaths, swiping three bases in a game for the third time this season. The 23-year-old entered Sunday's contest mired in an 0-for-14 slump with five strikeouts over his past four games, part of a rough August in which he has batted .189 with four extra-base hits and five stolen bases in 15 games. The young shortstop has put together a well-rounded season despite his recent struggles, batting .248 with 17 home runs, 59 RBI, 71 runs scored and 25 steals in 115 games played.
