  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Rockies' Chris Owings: Invited to summer camp

Owings will be a part of the Rockies' 60-man summer camp.

Prior to the shutdown, Owings had made a strong case for a roster spot as a non-roster invitee, so his inclusion is not surprising. That said, he is likely to fill a depth role and probably won't play regularly enough to be a viable fantasy option, especially in weekly leagues.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Garcia: Invited to summer camp

Garcia will be a part of the Reds' 60-man player pool this season.

He will not be training at Great American Ball Park with the Reds' top players, but Garcia is now eligible to potentially make his big-league debut this season. That said, the 22-year-old shortstop has never even played at Double-A, so don't look for him to assume a prominent role until 2021 or 2022.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Set for taxi squad

Perdomo will be a part of the Diamondbacks' taxi squad this season, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports.

One of the DIamondbacks' top prospects and one of the most underrated prospects in all the minors, Perdomo has a chance to be Arizona's shortstop of the future. However, they have a very talented big-league roster as is, and Perdomo has never played above High-A, so he is unlikely to get significant playing time in the majors this season.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Primed for taxi squad

Luciano will be a part of the Giants' taxi squad this season, Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports.

While Luciano is the Giants' top prospect and one of the best prospects in baseball, he has yet to play at Low-A, let alone the majors. It is unclear how much major-league action he will get during the regular season, but it seems unlikely that he will play enough to be a factor in redraft leagues.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Everyday role potentially awaits

Edman could potentially find himself in an everyday role at third base during the truncated 2020 regular season if manager Mike Shildt opts to make Matt Carpenter his primary designated hitter, Anne Rogers of MLB.com explains.

Edman has the luxury of sufficient defensive versatility to fill in at a number of spots, but the universal implementation of the DH for the 2020 campaign could result in him manning the hot corner regularly. Rogers explains Carpenter's extensive body of work as an accomplished hitter make him a natural to be the primary candidate for the role, which in turn would render Edman as the odds-on favorite to handle third-base duties. Not only does the 25-year-old's proficient glove work ensure there wouldn't be much, if any, defensive drop-off from Carpenter should Edman man third, but his ascension to the top job would also open up more playing time in the outfield for several promising young players.

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Has attended Busch workouts

Edman has been among the players that have attended small informal workouts at Busch Stadium in recent weeks, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Despite a rash of positive COVID-19 cases in some other camps, the Cardinals have apparently been able to hold their small gatherings of players without incident thus far. Edman has joined the likes of Harrison Bader, Paul DeJong, Kolten Wong and Adam Wainwright for the heavily regimented sessions, which have been limited to four players maximum and have included temperature checks, health surveys and strict social distancing.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Takes BP against teammates

DeJong participated in workouts at Busch Stadium on Wednesday that included batting practice against teammates Adam Wainwright and Kwang-Hyun Kim, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

DeJong and Kolten Wong joined the two hurlers in a workout that observed all required social distancing guidelines. The slugging shortstop, who's been working out regularly during the shutdown, was able to field grounders in addition to getting his hacks in the batter's box as he continues to prepare for the possibility of an abbreviated 2020 regular season.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Working out in St. Louis area

DeJong, who initially remained in Jupiter, Florida when spring training was suspended, has been working out regularly in the St. Louis area for some time, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Goold reports DeJong has regularly been able to incorporate fielding practice into his workouts, and it's likely he's also gotten hitting work done in some form. The 26-year-old swung a scalding hot bat during Grapefruit League play, hitting .464 (13-for-28) across 11 exhibitions before play was paused. His presence in the St. Louis area would seem to indicate DeJong will be among the players present for the small group workouts the Cardinals will be allowed to conduct at Busch Stadium beginning next week, and the slugger is among those eager to see proposed plans for a 2020 season come to fruition. "Baseball players want to play," DeJong said. "We're going to have to go out there. I think the game is bigger than all of this. We have to do everything we can to preserve the game in its most natural state. If this means a temporary season like this year where we have to try out some new measures, I'm all for it because I know I want to play."

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Working out consistently

Edman has been in the St. Louis area for some time and consistently fielding groundballs as part of his regular workouts, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Given his location, Edman projects to be one of the players present at Busch Stadium for the small group workouts teams will be allowed to conduct beginning next week. In addition to the aforementioned baseball activities Edman has been participating in, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports the 25-year-old has also been utilizing a Rapsodo Hitting 2.0 unit, a device that allows players to track critical data such as exit velocity, launch angle and spin axis when taking swings. Edman's diligent work comes in anticipation of a robust role during a 2020 campaign that should see him log time at multiple positions for a second straight season.

  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

Padres' CJ Abrams: Unlikely to reach majors in 2020

Abrams could be named to the taxi squad under the current MLB proposal for a 2020 season, but he is unlikely to see big-league playing time during the campaign, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Per Lin, "a couple of staffers have suggested that if any A-ball player could make the jump in an emergency, Abrams might lead the list." However, the prospect's lack of experience -- he has played in only 34 professional games -- makes such a scenario unlikely. Abrams' service-time clock must also be taken into consideration as the 19-year-old was slated to open the season in Low-A ball, making a sudden jump to the majors contrary to the Padres' interests.
