  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Hits third homer of season Tuesday

Diaz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Nationals.

The 26-year-old is quickly dismissing any idea that his performance last season was a fluke, hitting .278 with three homers, five RBI and six runs scored through his first eight games of 2017. The Cards' offense is struggling out of the gate, but Diaz has been one of the few bright spots in the St. Louis lineup.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Sits out Tuesday

Crawford is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Crawford will get the day off after starting the first eight games for the Giants. He's off to a nice start to the season, going 11-for-30 with one homer, five RBI and three runs. Eduardo Nunez will cover for him at shortstop while Aaron Hill mans third base.

  • James Nelson SS | HOU

Marlins' James Nelson: Held back with quad injury

Nelson was held back in extended spring training to rehab a quad injury, MLB.com's Mike Rosenbaum reports.

A 15th-round pick in 2016, Nelson hit .284 with one home run and seven steals in 162 at-bats in the Gulf Coast League last year.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Sits out Tuesday

Story is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.

Story will get what looks like a regular day of rest Tuesday as Cristhian Adames takes over at shortstop. The young shortstop is off to a slow start this season, hitting 4-for-27 (.148) with three runs and one stolen base through eight games.

  • Braves' Johan Camargo: Receives first big-league callup

Camargo was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

With Matt Kemp (hamstring) landing on the disabled list, Camargo will receive his first taste of the big leagues after appearing in just three games at Triple-A this season. That said, the 23-year-old is blocked at each infield position by more established options, so he'll likely fill a reserve role during his first major-league stint.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Sits out Tuesday

Rojas is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Braves.

Rojas is expected to carry a bigger workload with Adeiny Hechavarria (oblique) on the shelf, but he'll head to the bench for a night off. J.T. Riddle will make his big-league debut to fill his place at shortstop.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Chips in offense in win

Crawford went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run during Monday's 4-1 win over Arizona.

It was another solid outing for Crawford, as hitting in the heart of the lineup helps his fantasy floor. He offers more pop than most shortstops and really moves the needle in the RBI column, having netted 84 in consecutive seasons. Crawford has gone 11-for-30 with a home run, five RBI and six runs to start the year; he's a serviceable option in the majority of settings.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Aims to return once eligible

Turner (hamstring) is expected to return from the DL once he becomes eligible, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Manager Dusty Baker said that the implementation of the 10-day disabled list aided in the decision to move Turner to the DL, as the team is optimistic that he won't need to miss extra time. Baker also stated that there was concern that the hamstring strain could linger throughout the season had Turner not been rested right away, which led to Washington erring on the side of caution with the young star.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Lands on disabled list

Turner was placed on the disabled list with a strained hamstring Monday, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports.

Washington had said that Turner was expected to miss a few games after suffering a hamstring injury Saturday, but it appears that he's due for a more extended absence. There's currently no timeline for his return, but it sounds possible that it'll come soon after he's eligible. With Turner out, Stephen Drew will likely see an increase in playing time at shortstop.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Back in lineup Monday

Baez will play second base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Dodgers.

Baez is back in action after getting the day off Sunday, taking over at second base while Ben Zobrist slides into the outfield. The 24-year-old is 3-for-14 with three RBI and two runs in five games this season.
