Matthews (2-3) earned the win against the Royals on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts over seven innings.

Matthews yielded two runs in the first inning but kept the Royals off the board over his final six frames despite throwing just 57 of 100 pitches for strikes and generating only six whiffs. The final line was a welcome rebound from the seven-run blowup he endured Sunday, and the 26-year-old has now recorded a quality start in four of his five outings this season. He'll take a 4.15 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB across 30.1 innings into a road matchup against the Tigers next week.

Mayo went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored during the Orioles' 13-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Mayo put the exclamation point on the Orioles' five-run sixth inning with a 396-foot, two-run home run off Trey Yesavage. It was the eighth home run of the season for Mayo, three of which have come over his last seven games. He has logged at least one hit in seven of his last eight games, and over that span he has gone 8-for-29 with five extra-base hits, seven RBI and nine runs scored.

Manager John Schneider said after Friday's game against Baltimore that Varsho has been dealing with left wrist inflammation over the last couple of days, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Varsho had to leave Friday's contest after aggravating his wrist during his first plate appearance. X-rays came back negative after the game, so he isn't dealing with anything severe, but he could sit out a game or two to give his wrist a chance to recover properly.

X-rays on Crawford's hand came back negative following Friday's loss to Detroit, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.

Crawford was pulled from Friday's game after taking a pitch off his hand in the third inning, but he appears to have escaped the encounter with no more than a bruise. He could sit out a day or two to allow for any lingering soreness to subside, but an extended absence is unlikely.

Young (4-1) earned the win against Toronto on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four across 6.1 innings. He did not issue a walk.

Young was solid for most of Friday's start, limiting the Blue Jays to just one run through four innings before yielding a two-run homer to Brandon Valenzuela in the fifth. Young stayed in the game and pitched into the seventh frame, ending his night with 64 strikes on 85 pitches (75.3 percent strike rate) while logging seven groundouts and 22 first-pitch strikes (to 25 batters). He has registered three consecutive quality starts and is up to four on the season, which has Young sitting at a 3.47 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 37:17 K:BB across 49.1 innings. He's slated to make his next start next week at home against the Mariners.

Rutschman went 4-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, a home run and five RBI during the Orioles' 13-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Rutschman got the Orioles on the board early with a solo home run off Trey Yesavage in the first inning. Rutschman kept his foot on the gas, tying things up at 3-3 in the sixth inning with a two-run double before adding another two runs on a double to center field in the ninth. His four hits were a season high, and his five RBI were his most in a game since April 24 against the Red Sox (six). Rutschman is slashing .273/.352/.506 with eight home runs and 36 RBI over 196 plate appearances this season.

Valenzuela went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 13-3 loss to the Orioles.

Valanzuela handed the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead after taking Brandon Young deep to right-center field for a 417-foot, two-run home run. Valanzuela has gone deep in back-to-back games and is up to six homers on the season. He has stepped up as the Blue Jays' primary catcher ahead of Tyler Heineman, but Valenzuela could soon see his workload drop dramatically, as Alejandro Kirk (thumb) is trending toward returning from the 60-day IL early next week, per Mitch Bannon of The Athletic.

Yesavage (2-3) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing six runs on fits hits and two walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.

Yesavage was excellent through the first five innings of Friday's start outside of a solo home run that he yielded to Adley Rutschman in the first. Yesavage was brought back out for the sixth, but he did not come away with the quality start after giving up five runs in the frame, with his night coming to an end after giving up a two-run homer to Coby Mayo. Yesavage has allowed at least five runs in two of his last three starts and sits at a 3.16 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 44:19 K:BB across 42.2 innings this season. His next start is slated for next weekend at home against the Yankees.

The Yankees will recall Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

The Yankees sent J.C. Escarra down to Triple-A shortly after Friday's game, so Sanchez will join the active roster to take over as New York's backup catcher. The 29-year-old owns just a .454 OPS across 133 plate appearances in his big-league career but has slashed .227/.327/.375 with six homers, 11 RBI and 18 runs in 40 games at Triple-A this year.

Mullins went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during the Rays' 6-0 win over the Marlins on Friday.

Mullins extended the Rays' lead to 5-0 in the sixth by taking Tyler Phillips deep to right-center field for a solo home run. Mullins has gone deep in back-to-back games and is up to five homers on the season. It's been a tough 2026 campaign at the plate for the veteran outfielder, but perhaps his recent play is a sign of things to come for the 31-year-old.
