Tyrone Taylor LF | CHC
Mets' Tyrone Taylor: Could return Tuesday
Taylor (hamstring) is playing in a minor-league rehab game Sunday and could join the team in Chicago ahead of a three-game series against the Cubs that starts Tuesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
Taylor has been on the shelf since Sept. 2 due to a strained left hamstring, but after embarking on a rehab assignment Friday, Taylor is on the brink of returning. Once activated, the 31-year-old will likely be on the short side of a platoon in center field with Cedric Mullins.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: On bench Sunday
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
He'll give way to Luis Torrens behind the plate Sunday after starting at catcher in the first two games of the series. Alvarez has gone 8-for-25 (.320 average) with two home runs in his last seven games.

William Contreras C | MIL
Brewers' William Contreras: Out of lineup with hand bruise
Contreras (hand) isn't part of the starting nine for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Contreras was hit on his left hand by an opposing hitter's swing while he was catching during the seventh inning of Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win. Though Contreras said he lobbied to be included in Sunday's lineup, the Brewers will ultimately err on the side of caution and hold him out. Considering that X-rays on his wrist and hand came back negative, Contreras can be viewed as day-to-day heading into the final week of the season while he manages a bruise.

Nacho Alvarez Jr. 3B | LAA
Braves' Nacho Alvarez: Out Sunday with thumb issue
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Detroit due to a laceration on his thumb, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez sustained the injury earlier in the weekend, and while the cut didn't require stitches, he'll be out of commission for at least one game. Vidal Brujan will draw the start at third base in place of Alvarez, who starred in Saturday's 6-5 come-from-behind win with three hits -- including two home runs -- and three RBI.

Robert Gasser SP | MIL
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Called up, will start Sunday
The Brewers recalled Gasser from Triple-A Nashville, and he'll start Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Gasser will make his first big-league appearance Sunday since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2024. The 26-year-old was optioned to Nashville on Aug. 30 after being activated from the 60-day injured list, and he's mostly been working as a multi-inning reliever for the affiliate. Over 10 appearances with Nashville on the season, Gasser has covered 32 innings while compiling a 2.25 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB. The right-hander will be taking the hill Sunday on three days' rest after tossing 2.2 innings for Nashville on Wednesday, so he likely won't work deep enough into the contest to qualify for a win.

Luis Garcia 1B | NYY
Nationals' Luis Garcia: On bench again
Garcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
With southpaw Sean Manaea opening the game for the Mets, the left-handed-hitting Garcia will retreat to the bench. Paul DeJong will fill in for Garcia at second base.
-
Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Idle Sunday
Adams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
Adams will take a seat for Sunday's series finale, giving way to Jorge Alfaro behind the plate. Adams and Alfaro have been splitting work recently, with Adams starting in seven of the last 12 games, including Sunday. Alfaro has been behind the plate in all of the other five contests.
-
Clay Holmes SP | CHC
Mets' Clay Holmes: Likely to piggyback Manaea
Holmes will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday's game against the Nationals and could piggyback starter Sean Manaea, Colin Martin of SNY.tv reports.
The duo was deployed in tandem during Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Padres, with Holmes working the first four innings and Manaea covering the final five frames. Manaea ended up coming away with the victory, but since he'll be serving as the starter Sunday, Holmes might stand a better chance of qualifying for a win. The right-hander will be working out of the bullpen for the first time all season after his previous 30 appearances came in a starting role.
-
C.J. Abrams SS | WAS
Nationals' CJ Abrams: On bench Sunday
Abrams is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
With southpaw Sean Manaea on the hill for the Mets, the left-handed-hitting Abrams will get the day off. Nasim Nunez will step in at shortstop for Abrams.

Nacho Alvarez Jr. 3B | LAA
Braves' Nacho Alvarez: On bench Sunday
Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Detroit.
Alvarez will get a well-earned day off Sunday after launching a pair of home runs in Saturday's win. In his place, Vidal Brujan will bat ninth and play third base.
