  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Heading to bench Sunday

Alexander is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. The 27-year-old had started each of the last three games, but he could shift back into a utility role after Baltimore reinstated two key lineup cogs in Adley Rutschman (concussion) and Dylan Beavers (oblique) from the injured list Sunday. Alexander's last five starts had come at third base, but Coby Mayo could end up seeing the bulk of the time at the hot corner since he'll have fewer opportunities to serve as the designated hitter with Rutschman and Beavers back in the fold.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Checking back into starting nine

Alexander will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Angels, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Alexander exited Monday's series opener due to a right knee contusion and was held out of Tuesday's 5-1 loss, but the day off was apparently all that he needed to move past the minor injury. He'll settle back in at third base, where he appears to have supplanted Coby Mayo as the Orioles' preferred option. Dating back to the beginning of June, Alexander has submitted a .413/.451/.674 slash line with two home runs, two stolen bases, nine RBI and seven runs in 17 games.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Exits game early Monday

Alexander left Monday's game against the Angels early due to right knee discomfort, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Leody Taveras replaced Alexander at third base in the bottom of the third inning on Monday. Alexander left the game after just one at-bat, going 0-for-1 with a strikeout.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Homers in three-hit effort

Alexander went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, a double and an additional run scored in Sunday's 12-1 victory over the Dodgers. Alexander excelled in the blowout win, recording his seventh three-hit performance of the campaign, highlighted by a two-run homer in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old has been on fire in June, slashing .422/.460/.689 with two homers, six doubles, nine RBI, seven runs and two stolen bases across 16 appearances this month while solidifying himself as the Orioles' top option at the hot corner. Overall, Alexander is hitting .312/.362/.447 with three homers, 12 doubles, a triple, 23 RBI, 22 runs and eight stolen bases across 66 contests in 2026.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Gets on base four times

Alexander went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Mariners. Alexander made his fourth straight start at third base as he continues to take control of a starting role. He's earned it with five multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, a span in which he has gone 13-for-25 (.520) with four doubles and three RBI. The infielder is now batting .310 with a .788 OPS, two home runs, 19 RBI, 20 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple and seven stolen bases over 175 plate appearances this season.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Playing time picking up

Alexander will start at third base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners. Since going hitless in six at-bats during a doubleheader with the Tigers on May 24, Alexander has caught fire at the plate, slashing .444/.500/.722 with two home runs, one stolen base, 12 RBI and seven runs over a stretch of 12 contests. Alexander doesn't have a regular home at any one position, but his ability to play all over the infield and outfield should afford him fairly stable playing time so long as he's wielding a hot bat. He'll be making his fourth start in five games Wednesday, this time filling in at the hot corner for a resting Coby Mayo.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Drives in career-high six Wednesday

Alexander went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and six total RBI in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Rays. Alexander delivered the best offensive performance of his career, as he got started with a two-run single in the first inning, added a two-run double in the fifth and later crushed a two-run homer off Jonathan Heasley in the seventh to blow the game open. The long ball was his first homer of the season, while the six RBI marked a career high. Since May 2, Alexander has quietly been one of Baltimore's hottest hitters, posting a .367 batting average with a .404 OBP and .531 slugging percentage during that stretch. He's now batting .254 with a .646 OPS, 14 RBI, 14 runs scored and six stolen bases across 129 plate appearances this season.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Available off bench

Alexander (calf) said he will be available off the bench during Saturday's game against the Athletics, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports. Alexander was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game due to calf soreness, but he seems to be feeling better after receiving treatment and a day of rest. The 26-year-old utility man has slashed .232/.284/.280 with three RBI, eight runs scored and three steals through 89 plate appearances this season.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Scratched with calf tightness

Alexander was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics due to right calf tightness, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports. There's been no word yet on the severity of Alexander's injury, but it's enough to keep him from playing Friday. Weston Wilson will enter the starting nine to replace Alexander at third base.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Sitting Saturday

Alexander is not in the Orioles' starting lineup against the Guardians on Saturday. Alexander will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game, with Coby Mayo starting at third base and batting eighth. Alexander is slashing .227/.292/.250 with three steals (in four attempts), one RBI, six runs scored and a 3:15 BB:K across 49 plate appearances this season.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Drops out of starting nine Monday

Alexander is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox. Alexander had been included in the lineup for all three games of the Orioles' weekend series in Pittsburgh, making two starts at third base and one at second base while going 2-for-10 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs. Coby Mayo will cover third base and Jeremiah Jackson will man the keystone Monday, but those two players and Alexander will have to vie for one spot in the Orioles' everyday lineup once Jackson Holliday (hand) returns from the injured list, which could happen later this week.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Could fill in for Holliday

Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias said Wednesday that Alexander is a candidate to start at second base while Jackson Holliday (hand) is out, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. The Orioles acquired Alexander via trade Feb. 5, and the next day Holliday suffered a hamate bone fracture that will result in a stint on the injured list to begin the season. Alexander slashed .230/.323/.383 with seven homers and four steals over 74 games for the Diamondbacks in 2025. Jordan Westburg (oblique) will also be in the mix for reps at second base while Holliday is shelved.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Back to utility role

Alexander is expected to shift to a utility role following the Diamondbacks' acquisition of third baseman Nolan Arenado, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. Alexander finished up the 2025 season as Arizona's primary third baseman after Eugenio Suarez was traded to the Mariners at the trade deadline. Until the Arenado news, Alexander was the nominal starter at the hot corner. He now moves back into a utility role, which will include opportunities in the outfield. The Diamondbacks will be without left fielder Lourdes Gurriel (knee) for much of the first half of 2026 and will want a right-handed complement to Alek Thomas in center field. The team may also deploy him in a rotation at DH. That's in addition to Alexander's ability to back up at three infield positions. His main competition for playing time will be Jordan Lawlar, although general manager Mike Hazen believes both will be able to impact the club "in a number of different ways."

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: On bench for Game 162

Alexander (wrist) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres. Alexander departed Saturday's game in the second inning after being struck in the wrist by a pitch. Assuming he doesn't enter off the bench, he'll end the 2025 season with a .230/.323/.383 slash line, seven home runs, 28 RBI, 31 runs scored and four stolen bases across 266 plate appearances. Jordan Lawlar will step in at third base Sunday.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Back in lineup Monday

Alexander (elbow) is starting at third base and batting fifth against the Giants on Monday, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports. Alexander was struck on his left elbow by a pitch during the Diamondbacks' 6-4 win over the Rangers on Sunday. He was diagnosed with an elbow contusion, and the injury isn't severe enough to be held out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener. Alexander has gone 7-for-27 (.259) with four RBI over his last seven games.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Another outfield start

Alexander started in center field and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and was caught stealing in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Texas. Alexander started a second straight game in center field, both coming against left-handers. With the news that Lourdes Gurriel is done for the season with a torn ACL, there's a greater need for Alexander's right-handed bat in the outfield. He has experience in center field and replaced Gurriel in left field Monday.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Gets start in center field

Alexander started in center field and went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 7-5 extra-inning loss to the Rangers. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo discussed Alexander's shifting role last week, including time in the outfield. The outfield skews lefty, particularly in center field, and Alexander gives the manager a right-handed option against southpaws, as was the case Monday against Texas lefty Patrick Corbin. Alexander then showed off his versatility by playing left field when Lourdes Gurriel (knee) was removed, and he eventually also played third base by the end of the game. He's been on a roll over the last week, going 7-for-21 with five extra-base hits, five RBI, one steal and seven runs scored over the last six contests.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Back at third base Saturday

Alexander started at third base and went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Alexander is swinging a hot bat right now, going 6-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and six runs scored over a four-game hit streak. A day after manager Torey Lovullo discussed Alexander's role -- shifting from primary third baseman to a utility role -- he was back at the hot corner against a right-hander. Lovullo talked to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports on Friday about having Jordan Lawlar playing the left side of the infield but added that would be against lefties and certain righties. As both Alexander and Lawlar are right-handed batters, this won't be a traditional platoon situation.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Role changing

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Alexander's role will shift from primary starter at third base to playing various spots around the field after top prospect Jordan Lawlar was called up to the majors, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. Alexander had been the primary starter at third base since the Eugenio Suarez trade but slid over to second base Friday while Lawlar manned the hot corner. Lovullo said Lawlar would be limited to the left side of the infield -- shortstop or third base -- and would start against all lefties, while the manager does a mix-and-match against righties. Lovullo also said the righty-hitting Alexander could get starts in center field, where the Diamondbacks are lefty heavy.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Pops homer in win

Alexander went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 3-0 win over the Dodgers. Aelxander is up to seven homers this season, and three of them have come over his last seven games. The infielder has gone 7-for-25 (.280) with four walks and nine strikeouts in that span. He's up to a .234/.331/.441 slash line with 19 RBI, 21 runs scored and two stolen bases over 168 plate appearances. Alexander has gotten most of his recent playing time at third base, though he covered second base while Ketel Marte served as designated hitter in Friday's contest.
