  • Jung Hoo Lee RF | SF

Giants' Jung Hoo Lee: Drives in three runs Tuesday

Lee went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, a two-run homer and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 14-5 extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Lee extended the Giants' lead to four runs in the third inning with a two-run home run off Colin Rea. Lee got in on a piece of the action during the Giants' nine-run 11th inning, smacking an RBI single before being brought home two batters later by Wilmer Flores. It was the fourth time Lee has logged three hits in a game this season, and he ranks fourth in the National League in both hits (43) and doubles (11).

  • Giants' Justin Verlander: Gives up three runs in no-decision

Verlander didn't factor into the decision against the Cubs on Tuesday. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings.

Verlander entered Tuesday's game having logged three-straight quality starts, but he wasn't able to extend that streak to four after being lifted before the start of the sixth inning. He generated nine whiffs on 82 pitches (52 strikes), and the two-run home run he gave up to Miguel Amaya in the third frame was Verlander's sixth of the season, which is tied for 10th most in the National League. Through eight starts this season, Verlander has a 4.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB across 42 innings. He's slated to face the Diamondbacks at home next week.

  • Miguel Amaya C | CHC

Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Smacks two-run homer

Amaya went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 14-5 extra innings loss to San Francisco.

Amaya got the Cubs on the board in the third inning, when he took Justin Verlander deep to left-center field for a two-run home run. It was Amaya's third home run of the season, and the Cubs' backup catcher has started the year slashing .257/.284/.471 with 10 runs scored and 16 RBI in 75 plate appearances.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: Seven-game hitting streak snapped

Happ went 0-for-4 with one walk, one hit-by-pitch and four strikeouts in Tuesday's 14-5 extra-innings loss to the Giants.

Happ entered Tuesday's game with a career-low 16.8 percent strikeout rate and a seven-game hitting streak. He was able to get on base twice in his six plate appearances but struck out in the other four (three swinging). It was a disappointing performance for Happ, but he's still enjoying a strong start to the season and is slashing .279/.369/.765 with one stolen base, 29 runs scored, three home runs and 19 RBI in 179 plate appearances.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Getting X-rays on finger

Manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Contreras has been playing through a finger injury, and it's now bothering him enough to warrant taking him in for X-rays, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Murphy added that Contreras' finger has begun to affect his ability to keep pitches in his glove and hang onto his bat while swinging. More information on the 27-year-old's status will be available once the results of his tests come back, but the Brewers may look to use Eric Haase behind the plate more often in the near future if Contreras' finger continues to be an issue.

  • Colin Rea SP | CHC

Cubs' Colin Rea: Yields four earned runs in no-decision

Rea did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's game against the Giants, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings.

Rea hadn't given up more than two earned runs in any of his four starts heading into Tuesday, and he started strongly by retiring the side in the first inning. However, he proceeded to give up four runs over the next two frames before yielding a fifth run in the fourth, and his eight hits allowed were his most since Sept. 29 of last season (10 hits). Rea was able to escape with the no-decision to stay out of the loss column, and he's slated to face the Marlins at home next week.

  • Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Goes deep, swipes bag

Schwarber went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, a stolen base and a walk in Tuesday's victory against Tampa Bay.

Schwarber drilled a solo shot to begin the second inning for his 12th home run of the year to tie the MLB lead. He walked and stole second base in the third inning before knocking an RBI single and scoring another run in the eighth. It was his second multi-hit performance over his last 16 games and his first three-hit outing since April 8. Schwarber's OPS jumped to .999 with 16 extra-base hits, three stolen bases and 28 RBI through 156 plate appearances.

  • Ryan Pressly RP | CHC

Cubs' Ryan Pressly: Walloped for eight earned runs

Pressly (2-2) was the pitcher of record in Tuesday's 14-5 loss to the Giants in 11 innings after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on five hits and one walk without recording an out.

Pressly was brought in for the 11th inning with the game tied 5-5, but things fell off the rails for the veteran closer. He was pummeled for four singles and one double and also put runners on base with a walk and a hit by pitch before he was mercifully lifted from the contest in favor of Caleb Thielbar, who recorded all three outs in the inning. Pressly didn't give up an earned run in any of his previous 10 outings, but after Tuesday's brutal appearance, his ERA rose from 2.08 to 7.62 and his WHIP increased from 1.46 to 1.92. Pressly's rough showing could also prompt manager Craig Counsell to go with Porter Hodge the next time a save situation arises.

  • Phillies' Nick Castellanos: Homers, drives in four

Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Rays.

Castellanos drilled a three-run shot during the Phillies' four-run eighth inning and added an insurance run with an RBI single in the ninth. He snapped an 18-game homerless drought and delivered his first three-hit performance since April 12. Castellanos improved his slash line to .288/.336/.455 with 14 extra-base hits and 21 RBI across 35 appearances this season.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Strikes out nine in win

Wheeler (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings Tuesday, striking out nine and earning a win against the Rays.

Wheeler was impressive as usual Tuesday. He threw three shutout frames before Yandy Diaz tagged him with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Wheeler turned in his fourth consecutive quality start and has produced six in eight outings this season. He forced 16 whiffs on 84 pitches, including nine with his fastball. Wheeler dropped his ERA to 3.35 with a terrific 66:9 K:BB across 51 innings. He's currently in line to start in Cleveland this weekend.
